More specifically when the plane starts its engines and then goes faster and faster down the runway and then, amazingly, begins to lift into the air!!!! Argghhh! Is it going to do it?? Come on come on!!!! Surely it’s not possible???!! It’s a metal thing!!! And then completely off the ground!!!!! Fucking hell!! Wow!

AIBU??

I book window seat if flying on my own but have to suck up sitting in the middle if flying with family. I love the decent and landing too. Next time I’m on leave from work im thinking of heading to Manchester airport to watch the planes land and take off.

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 05/04/2024 20:48

I'm totally with you. I find that bit when the plane is taxiing around waiting for its slot so SO exciting! And when it turns the corner.. waiting.. waiting.. then full throttle off we go down the runway! The sound of the engines gunning for it at top speed is my favourite sound in the whole world. Love every second!!

MsAsparagus · 05/04/2024 20:49

Also, planning on watching the live streams on YouTube tomorrow as it’s meant to be very windy. Bigjet TV is a good one to watch.

SophiaElise · 05/04/2024 20:54

I love flying too... but don't like the pain I get in my ears 😔

I find take off and landing so exciting. I usually fantasise that it's me flying the plane!

JoleneTookHerMan · 05/04/2024 20:54

I used to be like this until I watched 'Final Destination' (the first film) and now, much to my annoyance, this is what I pops into my mind and I absolutely poop myself!

Mystro202 · 05/04/2024 21:02

I like the initial take off and landing but hate the ascending and descending as it kills my ears 👂 😫

nimski · 05/04/2024 21:04

Absolutely HATE it!

JoJothegerbil · 05/04/2024 21:09

I love the roar of the jet engines and the thundering at speed down the runway. Absolutely exhilarating.

ChristmasCwtch · 05/04/2024 21:11

Haha it’s sweet to read your excitement.

I travel a lot for work. I find flying boring and airports annoy me. Except the make up shopping at Heathrow. That’s the fun bit 😂

So… if you ever have to take several connecting flights in a row, should we expect the emotional overload will cause screaming at the Sistine Chapel the planes? Wink

existentialpain · 05/04/2024 21:12

I'm the same, It's my favourite moment

BurbageBrook · 05/04/2024 21:13

I love travelling but I hate the flying part. I'm always happy when my flight is after 12pm as I feel I can justify a Prosecco to take my mind off it!

slinkymalinki22 · 05/04/2024 21:14

I'm exactly the same as you OP! LOVE flying and find take off thoroughly exhilarating.

My next flight is 7.20am. You bet o will be having a prosecco and - shocker - I'll be on my own. Cheers!

YANBU OP. I love take off too ✈

Starseeking · 05/04/2024 21:25

I love going on planes too.

My Dad was telling me about going on flights in the 80's and how they sometimes used to let passengers into the cockpit to have a look! I went in a few times as a very young child, but it was so long ago I can't remember any of it.

unsync · 05/04/2024 22:18

I'm usually asleep by that point! I find it a bit tedious now, although I used to fly unaccompanied as a child which was fun.

RichardsGear · 06/04/2024 00:04

Oooeeeoooaa · 05/04/2024 20:39

Not quite but the narrative made me laugh. I hate it. The magic disappeared after watching final destination film.

I was the same! Put me off rollercoasters as well.

HeartandSeoul · 06/04/2024 00:32

I used to be absolutely fine when flying, and it didn’t bother me one bit. However, since being pregnant/having children, I get so anxious at the slightest hint of turbulence. Yet, take off gives me such a buzz every time 😄!

mondaytosunday · 06/04/2024 00:45

The only good part about flying is landing safely at the destination. I'm flying separately to my kids this summer and I'm already anxious about it.

SensualDecay · 06/04/2024 00:55

Take off and landing, and even turbulence, I find exciting and enjoy, but the rest of flying is horrifically boring and I hate being trapped in something I can't escape.

I fly a lot and I'm still thrilled by airports and like to explore every corner if I have time.

AgingDisgracefullyHere · 06/04/2024 01:52

I LOVE when the engines kick in full power and we start to hurtle down the runway. It's thrilling.

I also think turbulence is fun.

The plane will levertate!

IBegYourBiggestPardon · 06/04/2024 02:58

No not for me. I hate the taking off part, the increase in the engines, and the thundering down the runway. I hate the climbing part too. I can semi relax once the Plane has reached altitude and turbulence doesn't bother me so much now. Landing doesn't bother me at all

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 06/04/2024 03:05

I do a lot of city hopping on planes as sometimes a 75 minute flight beats 8 hours of driving. Once did a 15 minute flight from
Vancouver Island back to Vancouver!

On one of my most recent flights I thought to
myself “Hmm we seem to be an awfully long way down the runway and we haven’t landed yet.” Lo and behold, my first go around.

DrCoconut · 06/04/2024 03:21

I hate flying. I'm terrified by every noise and jolt and can't wait to arrive in one piece. I also feel lightheaded and sick during takeoff and horrible earache during descent which leads to hearing loss and/or pain for the first couple of days of my trip. Luckily I can't usually afford to go abroad but I wish I could enjoy flights.
