To hate flared or wide trousers (light hearted)

I also hate tiers on dresses and ones with no sleeves. Have the designers not looked at the weather recently.

I can't shift my post menopause tummy/lack of waist, so a tiered midi dress solves my problems. I've just bought four holiday dresses from Matalan, one from Yumi and two from Roman, all with three quarter sleeves. New look, asda and river island had some. I agree about sleeves, I don't want live in denim jackets. Two of my DD's look good in flares.

the80sweregreat · 03/04/2024 13:59

I find clothes buying a chore to be honest
I think it's fine if your a slip of a thing and can look good in anything , but for odd shaped people like me it's a minefield and dresses do not suit me at all.
Some of the designs are terrible too. Too many frills or fuss.
I much prefer winter when I can put a coat over my jeans and jumpers and be comfortable and warm and hide my feet in boots

Row23 · 03/04/2024 14:00

I love a flared trouser!
Agree about tiers on dresses though - sometimes they’re in odd places and it looks unflattering.

MidnightPatrol · 03/04/2024 14:08

I love the wide legged trouser and tiered midi.

Having spent most of my youth in an era where skin-tight clothes were fashionable, I am revelling wearing completely shapeless clothes with the odd bit tucked in.

I will be investing in lots of floaty matching linen sets in a variety of colours for the summer.

KnittedCardi · 03/04/2024 14:17

Detest wide floaty trousers, why add reams of material to make you look bigger than you are?? Fine if you are slim, otherwise no. Tiers OK, if in the right place, and not augmented with frills, I am not 4 years old. Long sleeves, or short sleeves, three quarter sleeves give me the rage 😂

MonsteraMama · 03/04/2024 14:23

The issue I have with the baggy shapeless wide legged stuff that's fashionable at the moment is I just don't think it looks good unless you're tall and willowy or built like Twiggy.

I just look like a binbag full of coleslaw in all of it, or five sizes larger than I actually am. Or both.

the80sweregreat · 03/04/2024 14:32

Some subtle boot leg jeans look ok on me , but these really wide leg trousers are a bit much. Reminds me of the 70s

Mercurial123 · 03/04/2024 14:37

I love wide legged trousers and have been wearing them for years. What I really hate is the fashion singular a wide leg trouser...

A singular wide leg trouser?

A skirt?

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 03/04/2024 14:40

How do you walk in wide legged trousers? I had a pair and the amount of fabric kept wrapping around my calves as I walked and then catching on itself. So unless I walked like I'd had my horse shot out from underneath me, I was just a mass of seething fabric tangling and untangling.

Mind you, I'm a shortarse with stumpy little legs, so what I was doing in wide legged trousers is anybody's guess.

PotatoPudding · 03/04/2024 14:41

I hate high waisted jeans and trousers. I am very short in the rise, so they practically warm my ribs! I also have a pot belly ever since my c-section 6 years ago, which looks even bigger in high rise jeans. Until recently, they were pretty much all you could get for years.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 03/04/2024 15:00

Agree with both. I don't want to do the 70s twice!

suburburban · 03/04/2024 15:03

I have one pair and they feel heavy and drafts itms

Nothing looks that great with them too wise

suburburban · 03/04/2024 15:03

Drafty

Whatismypasswordthen · 03/04/2024 15:13

As someone who once tripped on my massive flares and went head first down a flight of stairs into a shut door, yanbu.

Capris or skinnies for me ever since. Stay safe.

No, a wide leg trouser, a red lip, a jean....

MissyB1 · 03/04/2024 15:20

I’m 5ft 3 so even if I liked these wide legged trousers I would look bloody ridiculous in them.

Hoppinggreen · 03/04/2024 15:25

Normally I agree as I am a chunky 5ft 4 BUT I bought a pair of very dark wide legged jeans from Sains and absolutely love them. They are my favourite item at the moment and a perfect length that I can wear with a small heel but also my trainers. I have worn them for everything from Uni open days to Cocktail bars and always feel good in them.

phoenixrosehere · 03/04/2024 15:27

I love my flares and skinnies, high waisted trousers.

Wide-legs are hot or miss here and I have yet to find a brand in the UK I like. My favourite wide leg pair were more tapered, high waist, and fitted around the bum. When I’m back in the States, may see if they still sell them.

Churchview · 03/04/2024 15:37

I bought some wide legged jeans back at the end of summer.
They looked great with my summery con type plimsolls but I've been able to wear them all winter as I think they look hell with any kind of boots. Like all the clumpiness of my body has dropped to the bottom. Perhaps a heeled boot would be ok, but I can't be doing with heels.

Also, there's the whole what coat to wear dilemma. A long coat and flared jeans and you have the silhouette of a Christmas tree.

PassingStranger · 03/04/2024 16:20

I hate flares too.

Thomasina79 · 03/04/2024 17:11

I am (gasp) 68 though don’t feel it and I vowed I would never, ever, ever wear flares again at the end of the 70s. Those of a certain age may remember we inserted our own bit of material to make them more flared! Also, having lost six stone iin the last year, I want to have some nice clothes having gone from a size 22 to a 12. I like some dresses, especially a retro 40’s style.

I keep trying wide legged trousers because I see mid size influencers look great in them. Every time though I look like a stumpy toilet roll. I think 5ft 3 is too short for them. I'll stick to my straights or bootcuts thanks.

Moveoverdarlin · 03/04/2024 17:17

I agree with the wide legged trouser thing, I just thing they make you look ten times bigger than you are.

Try cowboy boots
