School uniform shops either in person or online would be your best option. I would imagine the need for schools shorts at that age would be very minimal so most stores won't stock them.

Yes I may have to buy from the school shop but they are so expensive.

Amazon

The last pair I bought for DS were from Amazon

I would imagine they wouldn't be that much more expensive, comparable roughly to a pair of mens trousers at that age surely?

For PE or lessons, blue or black?

lilsupersparks · 23/03/2024 12:15

My son wears shorts to Secondary School for regular uniform. We use M and S at the moment but they only go up to 15 I think.

definitely local school uniform suppliers. I agree that they won’t be more expensive than men’s. Your other option is to buy school trousers and get a local tailor or seamstress to shorten them.

Overtheatlantic · 23/03/2024 12:17

Their legs must get so cold.

Icecoldtulip · 23/03/2024 12:37

It’s not for PE it’s instead of school trousers. M&S only go up to age 14.

They are £18 each and £8 delivery. Think that’s quite a lot compared to a two pack that I used to get in M&S.

@Overtheatlantic they don’t get cold! It’s for summer 🤣

Why are they necessary? My DS wore shorts until he was 10/11 and was the last one standing. Do they all wear them?

Icecoldtulip · 23/03/2024 12:56

Yes they all wear them in the summer months! It’s nicer than wearing the trousers when it’s hot!

None of the secondary schools I know allow boys to wear shorts so that's probably why most places don't sell them. There's no demand.

Do you live in the UK? I know we have some hot days but it's honestly never normally that hot that shorts are required?

Icecoldtulip · 23/03/2024 13:57

Yes the uk. In the south. We’ve definitely had summers where shorts are worn instead of trousers and the boys all enjoy the option. Most boys wear them.

Might be cheaper to get trousers taken up to shorts. Could you even do it yourself with wonder web?

DT’s went to school in London - a non uniform school. They wore shorts and T-shirts to school during the warmer months and swooped back to jeans and hoodies when it was cooler.

Plenty of summer days when it was more comfortable to wear shorts.

Why don’t they allow it?

lilsupersparks · 23/03/2024 16:51

My son is the only one wearing shorts but he wore them all through primary and didn’t even own any school trousers. Neither does his younger brother. They get very hot and uncomfortable in trousers in class and in primary were running around at playtime and in secondary lunches and breaks are only very short.

I did buy him trousers for secondary but he lasted one week in them before switching back to shorts (granted it was very hot that first week back) I told him no one else would be wearing shorts but it’s allowed on the uniform policy and he prefers it.

Thinking about it I think adjusting trousers is the way to go! I used to do this with my son when he went through the knees of his school trousers in the playground in reception - in fact that’s when the wearing shorts habit started!!

DS wore Amazon essentials cargo shorts.
