Looking for football results on phone is not 'low class'

Me and hubby and our ds were out shopping. Me and ds love football and were keen to keep track on football scores. Hubby was busy in a shop buying items for himself. Ds asked me to check the football scores so I got my phone out to check and husband said put it away its embarrasing as it's so lower class to do this!! AIBU to think that this is not, he says I'm teaching our ds that it's OK to have electronics constantly! All I did was check the footie score!

In a shop I don't see the issue unless you were paying or a member of staff was talking to you.

OK.. Here's Princesses Eugiene and Beatrice, The Princess of Wales, Sophie, Countess of Wessex, and even Queen Elizabeth 2nd, all checking their phones in public.

It's rude in some situations, but no. Its not low class.

I check the football scores constantly. If that makes me lower class, so be it.

I must be very low class as my team's scores are set to show as a 'bubble' on the screen whenever they play so when I want to check the score I just have to look at the home screen.

I must be in the gutter then since I’ve even been known to WATCH the football on my phone while being out and about…

I don’t see anything embarrassing about being in a ‘lower class’ than someone else. In fact I think worrying about class makes your ‘hubby’ a bit of a prick.

I was out today and was looking up football scores on phone, nothing wrong at all with it as far as I'm concerned. My mum and my son were with me and weren't bothered.

I agree with him about football scores, but checking the cricket score is fine. Apparently Rishi does it all the time in cabinet meetings.

The only time it is appropriate to check your phone in public is when you are expecting a message from your mistress.

I am a footy fan so if I am out and about I would check scores. No idea where this 'class issue'comes in as football these days crosses many boundaries. If you go to EPL game the amount of money spent in corporate hospitality is enormous.

I usually ask the butler the check the football scores.
