Gaza police 🎵

Seriously, on every thread where people are discussing something ‘trivial’ people come on with their whatabouterry. ‘What about Gaza?’ ‘Meanwhile in Gaza…’ etc etc

It’s as if these posters believe that the appalling situation over there renders us unable to hold another thought in our heads. Or worse, suggesting we shouldn’t be daring to discuss anything else.

By all means we should all be doing as much as we can to raise awareness and end the horrific situation but it absolutely does not mean we can’t discuss anything else. However trivial.

AIBU?

And what.

pinklampshafes · 11/03/2024 16:21

There are also many equally devastating conflicts going on around the world too.

180,000 dead in Myanmar with over 2,400 of those since January, War in Sudan with 1600 deaths since Jan and many, many others. And yet just one gets all the attention and marches.

Wemustonlytalkabout · 11/03/2024 16:30

I love that currently 14% of people believe we literally should only be posting about Gaza!

OP posts:

YANBU. I refuse to even think about Gaza anyway. It has NOTHING to do with us. We need to focus on our own country and stop worrying about others' conflicts.

GalileoHumpkins · 11/03/2024 17:56

Is it really on every trivial thread? I can't say that I've noticed it.

Verv · 11/03/2024 17:59

Just ignore them.
Takes a special type to make their thoughts on a conflict an identity for the duration.

ILoveSalmonSpread · 11/03/2024 18:00

It's particularly prevalent on the Royal threads at the moment.
I find it a bit daft to open a royal thread about , say , THAT photo and to jump in saying something along the lines of 'Meanwhile in Gaza...'

Just don't open the bloody thread then.

🤯

Fear not as I've seen it enough for the both of us.

It has everything to do with us actually as we created the situation in the first place. Bit like slavery.

Anyhow, I agree with you OP. It's like when my husband lost our life savings when his business went bust and my friend said "at least you have a husband".

therealcookiemonster · 11/03/2024 18:05

not noticed it at all

anyway, not wrong to keep one of the biggest humanitarian disasters in our lifetime in mind

the reality is we all, including people who have family in gaza (and for that matter many other places where there are disasters unfolding), are able to carry on with our lives. being reminded of it is probably not as bad as actually living there

and there are far more annoying interjections on mumsnet

Not really, no. The past is the past. I'm half black and I don't agree with the notion that the ex colonial powers are responsible for everything that went on in their former territories.

What's the point of interjecting at all, though? Just because some others might be 'more annoying' doesn't mean that it is good to try to use this conflict to derail discussion.

I agree, and I say this as someone who dislikes Royalty and can't be bothered with all the threads on them.

madeinmanc · 11/03/2024 18:24

It has NOTHING to do with us.

Are you unaware of Britain's role in Palestinian and Israeli history?

madeinmanc · 11/03/2024 18:25

You are right, OP, in your observation that it is often difficult to be reminded of the truth.

That was seventy years ago! The UK has had a role in a lot of war torn regions, are we responsible for every single one of them?

Even so, what is the average person expected to do? Seriously? Whilst also trying to earn a living in this economy, worry about climate change and the variety of other wars going on. This has never been about the every day person.

I'd happily take more Gaza chat than these feckin' Royal Family posts.

Why anyone gives a shit is beyond me.

I know, I'm more pro-monarchy than a lot of people my age but even I think people have gone bonkers.

I have no interest in Gaza or any other worldwide conflict . The world has too many fanatics .

Absolutely. I can't stand the SJWs in this country and their stupid marches, either.

Daffodilsdaftie · 11/03/2024 18:44

Gaza, nothing to do with us whatsoever. The only think the Gaza matches are achieving are making Jewish people feel unsafe in this country. The marchers disgust me. No moral compass.

The Royal conspiracy theories are totally insane. Who are these people? I’d sooner believe the late queen was a lizard than think William has murdered his wife.

If you think what's happening in Gaza has nothing to do with us, you may want to take a moment to study some British history...

I am aware of the history. Are we responsible for everything that happened globally on our watch, historically?
