To patch my crotch?

Slightly embarrassing but I've rubbed a hole in my jeans between my legs (two pairs!!) 😩

Do people patch this area or is it just time to throw them out?

Or they don't have sewing machines? Or were never taught how to sew?

You don't need a sewing machine. You can do it by hand. I don't consider patching very difficult sewing - you could do a basic job with just running stitch, which I'd consider every day life skills. Same as sewing on a button is a basic skill. Plus there are loads of YouTube videos these days to show you what to do.

@JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon this is a new phenomenon to me!

It's all very well having life skills, however I have oesteoarthritus and don't have the strength in my fingers/ hands to sew and am unable to even see that well to see the fricken needle, let alone thread it

Just a thought, do we think making jeans out of recycled drinks bottles may be making them slightly more... fragile?

No jeans are always cotton. Kids school blazers are made from recycled bottles. They don't wear, they just rip and go shiny. I dont even think they can recycle cotton into jeans as the cotton fibres are too short after the processing from recycling.

I always repair torn clothes. Chucking them away is so wasteful. My elderly mum knows how to darn and she can repair holes in any kind of clothes in a few minutes, and it doesn't show. She's tried to teach me numerous times - I must learn, because darning clothes is dying out. People are just throwing stuff away and buying new instead of repairing them.

Sorry to correct you @DyslexicPoster but this label just came off a new pair of jeans I had to buy (from Next).

So these floral feature patches that posters are waxing lyrical about, how are they going to work on the crotch area? A cheeky flash of Laura Ashley to catch the eye?

I'm also not sure how interior patches will prevent friction wear and tear.

Xylophonics · 16/03/2024 16:40

I've always chucked. By that stage they are 4 to 5 years old and have had a lot of wear.
Have considered patching but I imagine it not lasting long and / or being uncomfortable.

Blimey! I had no idea. Not sure I need plastic near my nether regions! Jeans, denim is cotton. Or its not denim - or is it? Can you iron them? My mind is boggled. I'm off too Google....
