To show you my Mother’s Day gift (for my DM!)

Hi MN, I’ve bought my DM a gift this year that I’m super excited over and I want to show everyone!! (Otherwise I’ll get too excited and give it early!!!).

For context, I’m early 20s, never had much money before for these occasions so felt like splurging a bit.
I’ve never gifted her anything like this before as she doesn’t typically wear jewellery but after the gift that I originally bought her didn’t arrive on time, I popped into a boutique in London and found this!

I’m a bit nervous as I’ve never seen my DM wear jewellery, not even a wedding ring. But I’ve put in two photos of me and her when I was a baby and also had it engraved with the year I was born (hence, the year she became a mother).

Just wondering if any of you mums to adult children would want to receive a gift like this? I’m very nervous that she won’t see the sentimental value or won’t like it 😭

I would love it. I have a necklace with my initial and my kids’ initials. I wear it all the time. Great choice!

Mummame222 · 08/03/2024 17:58

I hate sentimental shit but this really is lovely. I would feel so loved if my kids got me that ❤️

Kittenchops · 08/03/2024 17:59

Mumof2NDers · 08/03/2024 18:00

That’s a very thoughtful and lovely gift. I’d be thrilled to get that

Wakeywake · 08/03/2024 18:00

That's lovely. I don't wear jewellery either, but I would wear this.

WhateverMate · 08/03/2024 18:01

It's beautiful, I'm sure she'll love it OP.

BusySittingDown · 08/03/2024 18:01

That's lovely OP!

Please don't tell me that 2003 is your birth date, because surely if you were born in 2003 that only makes you approx 10 years old? 😉

[Tries to ignore the fact that I have an almost 17 year old, born in 2007, so of course actual adults were born in the early 2000s.]

cocunut · 08/03/2024 18:01

Thank you all so much for being so lovely, I’m relieved as I was worried it was a bit cheesy/tacky (I don’t usually do sentimental gifts!) I’m only on here because I’m a trainee teacher, I realised this would be the best place for opinions on it from mums with kids my age!

The lady in the shop who looked about the same age as my mum couldn’t quite believe it either when I told her it was my birth year 😂

I know! I keep thinking that the 90s was only 10 years ago 😂.

LITLINAWIS · 08/03/2024 18:06

That’s so lovely.
I am very sentimental and it brought a tear to my eye.
I hope your DM isn’t on mumsnet though as she might recognise the photos!

geoger · 08/03/2024 18:07

Ahhhh that’s so thoughtful OP! I’m sure your mum will love it as it’s not just a random piece of jewellery - it’s personal and shows you’ve put a lot of time and effort into it

I’m pretty certain she isn’t on here, she only got an iPhone about 5 years ago and Facebook is her extent of social media. hoping no one she knows recognises it though!!
