To show you my Mother’s Day gift (for my DM!)

Hi MN, I’ve bought my DM a gift this year that I’m super excited over and I want to show everyone!! (Otherwise I’ll get too excited and give it early!!!).

For context, I’m early 20s, never had much money before for these occasions so felt like splurging a bit.
I’ve never gifted her anything like this before as she doesn’t typically wear jewellery but after the gift that I originally bought her didn’t arrive on time, I popped into a boutique in London and found this!

I’m a bit nervous as I’ve never seen my DM wear jewellery, not even a wedding ring. But I’ve put in two photos of me and her when I was a baby and also had it engraved with the year I was born (hence, the year she became a mother).

Just wondering if any of you mums to adult children would want to receive a gift like this? I’m very nervous that she won’t see the sentimental value or won’t like it 😭

That's really lovely. Even if she doesn't wear it she will love it. It is a nice piece of jewellery with thought put in. I would be so happy if my dc chose that for me.

cocunut · 08/03/2024 18:41

Ahhh I’m so glad! The original gift was a jumper which I ordered two weeks ago and still hasnt turned up! (Due to brexit apparently but I’m not exactly buying that… Brexit happened years ago 😂🙄) Hopefully that’s a blessing in disguise. My main concern was, having never bought jewellery before, it seemed quite cheap, i would’ve expected to have to pay more, however it is tiny! Hopefully it’s good value and doesn’t tarnish :)

It’s lovely. How do you get photos tiny enough to go into a locket?

I ordered “locket size” on Snappy Snaps and was able to collect them 5 hours later! Super handy!

I am 55 and bought myself some earrings last week from Claire’s for £3. I love them! It’s about how things look, not always the cost.

The photos were so old that I had to take a photo of them on my phone as they were film photos in an album, just to clarify. So I didn’t have to destroy any original photos.

I would be happy that you were so happy to get me a gift. Wouldn’t care what it was (however it’s also a very lovely gift).

MV will replace tarnished jewellery for up to 5 years so keep the receipt, it also comes beautifully packaged .

Awh...I love everything about your post.

Love that you are so excited.
Love that the first time you have some extra cash you decided to spend it on your mum.
Love that you put so much thought into it and the effort you have gone to.

I'm sure she'll treasure it.

fishonabicycle · 08/03/2024 19:37

I've got a 23 year old son and would love that - beautiful gift xxx

HappydaysArehere · 08/03/2024 19:43

It’s lovely. She will love it.

tothelefttotheleft · 08/03/2024 19:59

Was worth reading this lovely thread just to find out about snappy snaps doing locket photos. Thankyou.

Someaddedsugar · 08/03/2024 20:01

It's gorgeous OP ❤️.

I would be very emotional receiving that as Mother's Day gift.

BigPandaTinyDragon · 08/03/2024 20:39

I’d be chuffed to bits if my DD21 got me something so thoughtful - actually we’re celebrating early and she’s bought me wine, flowers and a book I wanted but didn’t think I could get hold of so she’s fab too!

I’m sure your mum will love it, let us know!

BewitchedorBewildered · 08/03/2024 20:40

I think your mum will love and cherish it.

Cherryoil · 08/03/2024 20:47

I would love this so much! My dc are only young (6 and under) so I currently buy this sort of thing for myself 😂. But I would love it one day if one of them thought to get me something like this.

DinoMummsy · 08/03/2024 21:01

Beautiful and thoughtful 😍

RJnomore1 · 08/03/2024 21:08

It’s absolutely beautiful and I would love it but I’d also want you to know you didn’t need to spend so much… I’d be very very grateful though. And I’m not a huge jewellery wearer myself too.

MagpieCastle · 08/03/2024 21:09

You are a fab daughter - what a thoughtful gift. I bet she’ll treasure the locket. If mine got me that I’d be genuinely thrilled.

I know! I keep thinking that the 90s was only 10 years ago 😂.

The 90’s were only 10 years ago?

yorkshireteapot9 · 08/03/2024 21:35

How absolutely beautiful-both the locket and your thoughts for your mum. Hope she loves it!

BusySittingDown · 08/03/2024 21:50

Exasperateddonut · 08/03/2024 21:27

What?! No!

1999 was 24 years ago but I keep forgetting that I'm 40 and not in my 20s and the 90s were not 10 years ago. I was making a joke about how quickly time has passed and I can't believe that people born in the early 2000s are actual adults in their 20s.

I really hope that your mum loves it @cocunut. She'll be delighted.
