Heart rate app?

Waterpark · 07/03/2024 22:57

I have felt a bit funny today after starting a new medication
earlier today my heart rate was steadily between 71-75

this evening i have readings from 114 to 60 sometimes a minute apart. Should I be worried ? Or am I using the heart rate app too much?

What is the app running on? Just take your pulse yourself, it’s more reliable. Any reason to believe the medication would have that effect?

BertieBotts · 07/03/2024 23:01

Hard to say tbh without knowing how this app is measuring heart rate. It might not be very accurate.

Can you just measure it the normal way ie find your pulse, look at a clock or timer, count number of beats in 30 second and double it?

Either way if you're worried about your medication give your doctor a call in the morning.

TheShellBeach · 07/03/2024 23:01

I don't understand. Why do you keep taking your heart rate?

Waterpark · 07/03/2024 23:03

It uses my finger on the camera

I use it as I have a fear of heart attacks so I’m the middle of a panic atta k it calms me down but now I’m worried
I feel a bit funny today

Is the medication related to your heart at all?

PickAChew · 07/03/2024 23:04

Are you wearing a tracker on your wrist? They can give wild results if they're not on tight enough.

I would worry about your phone battery, mind!

Waterpark · 07/03/2024 23:06

No it’s an app on phone

the medication is wegovy

Is this classed as an irregular heart rate

OP posts:
StormKevin · 07/03/2024 23:08

If you have a tendency towards anxiety it’s more likely to be that than anything more concerning.

StormKevin · 07/03/2024 23:10

And Wegovy doesn’t cause any heart side effects / arrhythmias

BertieBotts · 07/03/2024 23:13

You can give 111 a call if worried and they might talk you through taking your pulse over the phone?

unsync · 07/03/2024 23:28

If you are that concerned, a proper BP monitor will give you an accurate pulse reading.

No.

VestibuleVirgin · 08/03/2024 07:58

For heaven's sake, unless you have a medical condition which predisposes you to a cardiac event, this is ridiculous. Monitoring your vital signs is a guarenteed way to send them squiffy
More to the point, if a cardiac event is a potential side-effect of wegovy, and you are 'terrified' this may happen, stop taking the drug, it isn't life-saving

If your an anxious person I would not use the app it could be that that is sending your pulse up! You know your pulse goes up when you move right? Or when you have had a meal or hot drink. Do yourself a favour and leave it alone.

No.

I have 2 life threatening heart conditions. If your heart is slow or quick it doesn't mean it's irregular.

Also these apps are wildly off. I have something called an ILR which is an implant in my heart which runs all the time like an ECG so I get accurate readings. I downloaded this very app to compare and it was so out of sync.

Also if you're panicking it'll raise your heart rate. 114 isn't very fast at all if you're panicking.

Delete the app. It's not helping.

Your phone can't measure your heart rate without some means of measuring it.

HenleyHenley · 08/03/2024 08:41

And in the app you've put 'normal' and not 'resting' I had this app as above for shits and gigs to compare it to the real thing so I know it doesn't do it itself.

114 for being up and about and not resting is honestly fine.

Goforitagainandagain · 08/03/2024 08:43

How is your phone measuring your heart rate, do you mean you have an Apple Watch or similar which you can look at results on your phone.

Hiddenvoice · 08/03/2024 08:43

I used to use the same app and found it quite inaccurate when compared to taking my pulse normally. It would record random spikes which was caused by any movement.

I know it soothes you when you’re anxious but I think this time it’s actually made you feel worse. Anxiety can make your heart race, especially at night time when you’re trying to calm down to sleep, you can really feel like your heart is pounding in your chest .

If you have any worried about your heart rate then I’d maybe contact your gp to talk it through. They can either discuss your anxiety and maybe refer your for a 24 heart trace if they feel it’s needed.

Goforitagainandagain · 08/03/2024 08:44

If I sit down then get up my heart rate varies a lot, its normal

Goforitagainandagain · 08/03/2024 08:52

I just see a finger on the camera to read it, surely then that means you just get an unreliable small piece of time reading it unless your finger is on it all the while.

parietal · 08/03/2024 09:06

Phone camera apps are VERY unreliable as heart rate monitors. The slightest movement of your finger will throw it off. Even more likely if you have dark skin.

Buy a proper pulse oximeter on Amazon and use that. Don't rush to the doctor based on a phone app.

GN637 · 08/03/2024 09:16

Maybe see your GP for your anxiety. Your pulse is completely normal. Pulse rate alone doesn't tell you anything unless it's massively high at rest or very low.
This is my pulse today. I'm not about to drop dead and is a perfectly normal variation.
Please get help because the only thing that's not normal here is obsessing over your pulse.
