Do you wipe your toothpaste mouth on the hand towel?

toweldrama · 04/03/2024 10:49

Do you use the hand towel (shared with other family members and guests) to wipe the toothpaste from around your mouth?

AIBU to think that this is a bit of a no-no generally, but especially in someone else's house?

Obviously concessions given for young children, en-suites/private bathrooms (do what you like) etc.

No. I wash it under the tap then put it back in the toothbrush holder.

NeighbourhoodWatchPotholeDivision · 04/03/2024 10:53

No. I wash my face with my hands.

thecatsthecats · 04/03/2024 10:54

Can't you learn to contain the toothpaste with your mouth? Put less paste on the brush, you only need a pea-sized amount.

EspressoMacchiato · 04/03/2024 10:54

No. I wash any excess toothpaste off my mouth before drying.

It’s lazy just to wipe.

🤣🤣🤣

Wash not wipe

Idontjetwashthefucker · 04/03/2024 10:56

Well it's usually all contained but I might get a bit on my lip when spitting out the toothpaste - a quick swill with my hand and a bit of water sorts that out.

To answer your question though, no I wouldn't do this at home, never mind anywhere else

Curiosity101 · 04/03/2024 10:56

As others have mentioned. Wash any excess off with hands and water. Then I'll tend to use my bath towel to dry my mouth rather than the hand towel. But I do occasionally use the hand towel, consciously using it when I know it's fresh or not been used much - it does get replaced reasonably regularly though.

IncompleteSenten · 04/03/2024 10:58

Oh. 😂😂😂 I'm such an idiot. I read toothpaste mouth and thought toothbrush head 😂 pmsl. I'm a twit.

I wash my face clean then pat it dry.

I clearly need more coffee before trying to use the internet.

greenacrylicpaint · 04/03/2024 11:01

we all have our own hand towel (don't use bath towels) and use that for daily skincare/hygiene.
sharing towels is just Envy

madeofwaxlarry · 04/03/2024 11:06

No yuk. I'm always suspicious of hand towels and often dry my hands on my clothes. Would never touch it with my mouth

toweldrama · 04/03/2024 11:09

Ok these responses are reassuring! Personally I wash around my mouth and then use either my own bath towel or a dry flannel to dry my face. I would never wipe my toothpaste spit on a hand towel which I know other people will use. We had a guest who did it and I thought this can't be normal?! They had been given a bath sheet and a smaller towel. Also another friend always has dark blue hand towels covered in white stains 🤢

My husband was doing this and I was grossed out finding the coloured hand towels covered in dried crispy toothpaste/spit (my more commonly used white towels hide this crime) and had presumed it was the kids. Then one day I saw him do it. A full f*ing chin full of it. He got a good telling off and asked if he thought anyone would like his spit on their hands every time they used the bathroom?
I don't care if you dry a wet, clean washed mouth on the towel but not dribbled toothpaste. It's nasty! I think he's changed his ways now it's been pointed out as I've not seen it since.

Terrible when you realise that two teens and a primary kid have better manners than an adult in the house.

LoobyDop · 04/03/2024 11:13

That’s gross. I always rinse any excess toothpaste off my mouth, because I think it’s a big cause of very dry lips, but then I dry with a flannel, not a hand towel.

DiscoBeat · 04/03/2024 11:15

No, I use my own towel.

JJathome · 04/03/2024 11:16

No that’s gross. I just use water to clean my mouth, I’d only expect a child to do that when they don’t know better.

DiscoBeat · 04/03/2024 11:16

(I don't get toothpaste on the outside of my mouth as well!)

Me neither. What are people doing?

pizzaHeart · 04/03/2024 11:18

Another one who rinse mouth and face to remove any traces of toothpaste after brushing.
Aldo I always thought that hand towel in the bathroom was exactly for these - hands. Every person has own face towel for their face and bath towel for their body.

Foxblue · 04/03/2024 11:21

How are people getting so much toothpaste on the outside of your face, surely you just lick your lips then rinse??

My ex used to lean on the sink whilst brushing his teeth, mouth open, and everything would run down his chin and into the sink. Made me feel sick

starfishmummy · 04/03/2024 11:25

Only if the towel is going in the wash afterwards.

hummmmm · 04/03/2024 11:25

so are people more disgusted by touching their mouth with the towel everyone has wiped their hands on after washing them after using the toilet (grim, not all handwashes are nhs standard) OR getting toothpaste and spit on the towel they wipe their clean hands on? Neither are nice but people seem to be grossed out by one or the other.

to be honest, wiping your mouth on a used bath towel is pretty gross too, unless you have a special bum and armpits section I suppose...

I have a different colour towel I use for drying face and hair after shower, I usually wipe toothpaste away with my (clean) hand then use my hair and face towel to wipe my mouth on if I need to but is that gross too?

iverpickle · 04/03/2024 11:26

Sorry for a quick change of topic but it just reminded me.
You know when people say "everyone thinks they have adhd nowadays".

Till I read on here I couldn't imagine what differing standards there could be, and probably wouldn't have started to realise just how difficult I find normal life and looking for a possible reason.

So, no , I personally don't do this because I don't like getting toothpaste around my mouth, but it wouldn't bother me if other family members did. We only have the one face towel, no idea when it was last washed, could be days, could be a week, that would never stay in my brain. Maybe someone else changed it, I wouldn't notice. We actually have 3 or 4 towels on the go of varying size, and I personally just use whichever for whatever.

This is the kind of thing that tells me that I'm living in a parallel world. I feel a bit sad when I realise how uncomfortable people could be with things that people like me don't even see. I can't do anything about it, they are invisible to me. Because nobody says these things out loud people struggle on oblivious.

The organisation skills needed to run a house to even an average standard are just far too much for me, even though I work extremely part time.

MrsKintner · 04/03/2024 11:27

My 6 year old does this all the time and is constantly getting told not to!

As an adult I can't really remember needing to wipe my face on anything after brushing my teeth?
