Do you wipe your toothpaste mouth on the hand towel?

Do you use the hand towel (shared with other family members and guests) to wipe the toothpaste from around your mouth?

AIBU to think that this is a bit of a no-no generally, but especially in someone else's house?

Obviously concessions given for young children, en-suites/private bathrooms (do what you like) etc.

No I haven't used a towel for years, even though I have my own ensuite.

I rinse any paste off, then dry my mouth with a clean tissue.

How do you dry your hands?

Purpleavocado · 04/03/2024 12:30

I have flannels that I use to wipe my mouth and then dry my toothbrush, I hate for it to get all toothpasty down the sides and I don't want it dripping on the counter. It's an electric toothbrush

uncomfortablydumb53 · 04/03/2024 14:11

I don't get much toothpaste around my mouth. I use an electric toothbrush and don't rinse mouth afterwards but it I did I'd clean off with a wet hand and dry with toilet roll

How do you dry yourself?

No but my DH does this! I have said he needs to use his own bath towel or better still wash first
and hope that he does do but I'm not convinced!

Taylormiffed · 05/03/2024 14:41

Eew no. Tbh I don't really get toothpaste on my face. I wash my face after I brush and use my towel to dry.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 05/03/2024 14:42

I do wipe my mouth on my hand towel, yes. But it's my towel not a shared one .

doppelgangermirror · 05/03/2024 14:43

No, but the DC do and it drives me mad.

Sorry for a quick change of topic but it just reminded me.
You know when people say "everyone thinks they have adhd nowadays".

Till I read on here I couldn't imagine what differing standards there could be, and probably wouldn't have started to realise just how difficult I find normal life and looking for a possible reason.

So, no , I personally don't do this because I don't like getting toothpaste around my mouth, but it wouldn't bother me if other family members did. We only have the one face towel, no idea when it was last washed, could be days, could be a week, that would never stay in my brain. Maybe someone else changed it, I wouldn't notice. We actually have 3 or 4 towels on the go of varying size, and I personally just use whichever for whatever.

This is the kind of thing that tells me that I'm living in a parallel world. I feel a bit sad when I realise how uncomfortable people could be with things that people like me don't even see. I can't do anything about it, they are invisible to me. Because nobody says these things out loud people struggle on oblivious.

The organisation skills needed to run a house to even an average standard are just far too much for me, even though I work extremely part time.

You are not alone. My mind boggles over caring where members of my family have wiped their mouths. I just wipe mine on which ever towel is nearest, if I need to.

But wiping toothpaste off with a towel doesn't even clean your skin, you are left with a sticky chalky finish on your skin.

He can hold up a flannel under his chin as he brushed to catch the dribble and then wash his lips and chin off any toothpaste splatters. I recommend microfibre flannels.

Some whitening toothpastes might damage the colour on your coloured towels.

Allmarbleslost · 05/03/2024 14:48

DH does. I remind him not to regularly, he stops for a bit then starts again. This has been the story of my life for almost 20 years.

AnnoyingAlina · 05/03/2024 14:48

@Strugglingtodomybest do you share a family bathroom? If so everyone should be mindful as you can pass infections.

Cold sores for example can pass from towels and you could then get whitlow hepatic finger. Imagine if you end up touching your eye on a freshly wiped cold sore stain. Most people have shocking hygiene.

Helpel · 05/03/2024 14:51

My youngest child does it. But 1. she's 7 and 2. shes a bit feral. It's so annoying. I would not expect a grown adult to do this. Although from this thread, looks like some men do. Sigh.

Thanks, I appreciate your concern (and no, I'm not being sarcastic!). None of us suffer from cold sores though luckily.
