I love UO threads, so thought I'd get the ball rolling with another one.

'Britpop' was a lot of rot. The 'movement' was nothing like a movement, the bands really had nothing in common, as I think Jarvis Cocker has since opined. Tony Blair talking about 'Cool Britannia' was toe curlingly cringeable and the whole thing actually put me off some genuinely excellent music. I only started listening to Blur properly after the dust had settled and was surprised to realise I really like them.

Dark chocolate is overrated. I have tried so hard to like it but it is not to be, I love milk chocolate and milk alone. (I've given up chocolate for Lent and I would cut a bitch for a Crunchie right about now)

Glad you’re happy to joke about cutting someone. If you were a bloke you’d get battered on here for saying that.

I've tried so hard with dark chocolate but it's crap (unless there's no milk chocolate in the house then it's fair game).

I think Peter Mandelson is really nice.

Not everything chocolatey requires salted caramel. It’s so overdone.

Oooh yes, this one! I actually like salted caramel, but I prefer it when it isn't paired with chocolate. I don't actually think that the two flavours complement each other all that well.

I just wish that we could move on and start talking about actual UOs! I don't care that much but I don't really see why we can't move on. Could you contribute an UO that isn't about my turn of phrase, please?

My unpopular opinions-

choosing not to vote is a perfectly legitimate choice and saying “oh well you can’t comment on xyz because you didn’t vote” is bullshit

men and women can’t be “friends” without feelings being involved

those weird loaded brownies, cakes decorated with loads of chocolate sweets etc are horrific. Ngl they probably taste good but it’s just so much sugar and the desserts themselves look kinda tacky

most peoples fears, anxieties and coping mechanisms can be chalked up to an existential fear of death and struggling to cope with the reality of the unknown after death

most white British people are racist or blinkered in terms of different cultures

netflix and other streaming services are a scam and a fad and have worked to hook us so they can continue their business model rather than there being an inherent need for a constant revolving door of new shows to watch

the life mantra a lot of people want to live by “don’t be a dick” is irrelevant because you will inevitably end up being a dick to someone, impossible to live life without it and your idea of not being a dick will vary massively from someone else’s

leggings tucked into white socks and chunky trainers combo is so boring and basic

and lastly to trigger people on here, trans people have always existed and continued to exist and people crying about them online need to get a grip and focus on themselves

People who moan about the Americanisation of British English and Americanisation in general are very boring and come across as blinkered, somewhat stupid Little Englanders. Oddly enough I have seen most of that kind of moaning from left-ish quarters: the Guardian comment section is especially tedious for it.

I have to disagree! As someone who writes for a living, a proliferation of Z's instead of S's, and S's instead of C's is annoying as all hell.

On the serious, regarding dark chocolate, I used to feel similarly about white chocolate (very dull and sickly) but you must try the proper good stuff and you'll have your mind changed.
As an example, there's a maker in York whose white chocolate I can actually savour piece by piece, and each origin/choco% tastes tangibly different.

Bump, I wanted to get this thread going because the old one got too full, and then annoying people derailed it. If you want to share your UOs, here you go.

Oodle dogs are very unattractive, not at all cute, and almost all of the ones that I have met have been hyperactive, neurotic idiots. Unfortunately at least half of the dog owners among my friends and acquaintances have them (because tHeY dOn’T ShEd - although they still have to be regularly groomed to avoid matting - just get a normal short haired bloody dog in that case) so I bite my tongue.

Oh, I couldn't agree more! I'm a cat person anyway, but if I had to have a dog I would rather have a mutt, a German Shepherd, or a cocker spaniel. I can't be doing with all the oodles and designer dogs.

Aero Orange are better than Aero Mint, but you can barely ever get them. So frustrating.

You obviously don't realise that German Shepherds and Cocker Spaniels are designer dogs.

Not really. They are pure breeds, yes, but they aren't the newest fad like oodles. I agree that they can have issues, of course, but they aren't owned by people who just need to have the newest thing.
