Boots or Superdrug

Bibblybumblebee · 18/02/2024 09:41

I’ve always been a loyal Boots customer. Save my points all year to spend at Christmas.
Lately Boots shelves seem to be very bare (the one in my town anyway)

My town has just opened a large Superdrug and I’ve seen they do a loyalty card. They seem to do so many more products in there compared to Boots.

Question- Do you prefer Boots or Superdrug?

Our Boots are so understaffed I often go to SD instead.

SalviaDivinorum · 18/02/2024 09:56

Haven't shopped in Boots for years. I'm actually surprised they are still going.

SerenityNowInsanityLater · 18/02/2024 10:00

Superdrug. Every time. Boots is so sad now. Mine is always dark. The shelves are bare, it’s understaffed. It’s like a tomb, it’s so depressing.

Iheartmysmart · 18/02/2024 10:00

Superdrug - at least they actually staff their stores and you don’t have to queue for ages while the sole person on the checkout dashes backwards and forwards to get parcels people have come to collect. And Superdrug is cheaper.

Spanglemum75 · 18/02/2024 10:02

Superdrug. Their own brand makes aren't tested on animals and you can order online.

KimberleyClark · 18/02/2024 10:04

You can order online from Boots too - though I admit their stores are not what they were. Even my big city centre branch.

Hoglet70 · 18/02/2024 10:05

My local Boots is the same, nothing on the shelves, one till open. I'm sure it's going to close soon. Also the staff are bloody rude. I avoid going there and use our local Superdrug which is bright and happy and the young staff are all really nice. If I go somewhere with a large Boots though I still love a mooch.
I do order a lot online from Boots though.

Smartiepants79 · 18/02/2024 10:07

I did notice our small local boots had very bare shelves the other week, I wonder what’s going on.
I go to them for different reasons. Boots for chemist stuff and I prefer their makeup sections. Superdrug does have a good range of stuff that my tweens like.

mynameiscalypso · 18/02/2024 10:08

Much prefer Superdrug these days.

KimberleyClark · 18/02/2024 10:09

Boots are probably the oldest name on the high street and it will be a huge shame if they disappear.

Rosesanddaisies1 · 18/02/2024 10:09

Boots point scheme is far more generous. I never go in store though, always order online. I

lifebeginsaftercoffee · 18/02/2024 10:10

Superdrug. Boots stores always look really dingy and dirty to me these days.

imnottoofussed · 18/02/2024 10:11

I prefer boots, the ones near me are pretty good stores to be honest, well stocked and staffed. Superdrug's are always a bit cramped shelves are too close to each other and people everywhere so you can't always see what you want and no browsing space

AngeloMysterioso · 18/02/2024 10:11

My local Boots is great, the Superdrug though is dirty and nigh on impossible to get around with a pram, and I hate the way they always try to sell me extra stuff at the till.

hulahoopqueen · 18/02/2024 10:12

I prefer Boots as I love their parenting club offers and the points scheme works well for us with a young baby. They also offer higher end stuff and often have offers going.
That being said I agree that our local Boots looks really sad and dingy, and is mostly frequented by the older generation in our town. It's really sad, as the store in the nearest large town is quite buzzy and has some really nice concessions set out, feels a bit like Sephora.

Topofthemountain · 18/02/2024 10:14

I wouldn't choose a shop based on the reward system, if I go there any points are a bonus.

Depending on what you are buying the likes of BodyCare, Savers and Home Bargains may sell the products for less, making the extra reward points useless.

I am still mourning the demise of Wilko though, I liked their first aid etc range.

ssd · 18/02/2024 10:14

I automatically go to Boots, but the local ones are very dated and tired looking. Superdrug far better stocked. Don't know why i go to Boots really.

CranfordScones · 18/02/2024 10:15

Boots used to be one of those traditional caring employers, more like a family. Their stores reflected that. They even had lending libraries in their shops - they removed them in the mid 60s. Anyone else remember the big baby scales they used to have on the counter, too? As others have said, bit of a waste of space these days.

My answer is 'Savers' usually. Anywhere but Boots really...

GetDownkeith · 18/02/2024 10:16

I stopped shopping in boots a couple of years ago. They have a massive shop in a local retail park they could have made great but it has a rubbish selection and bare shelves compared to the tiny ancient store in the shopping centre with expensive parking.
They opened a big superdrug on the same retail park smaller unit but still big and its laid put well packed with a huge choice over all their departments and its much cheaper too.

zingally · 18/02/2024 10:17

Boots. But only because their stores are easier to get to. In my town, there are two, either side of town, in retail parks, that I drive past regularly.
There is only one Superdrug, which is in the towns shopping centre, and generally more of an inconvenient place to get to.

Purplepepsi · 18/02/2024 10:18

It used to be boots for me but I've switched to superdrug. Their loyalty scheme is ok and I use a lot of their own brand now - haircare / toothpaste / skin care all good.

Scarletttulips · 18/02/2024 10:18

I stopped using boots when they reorganized into brands rather than products. So annoying. It still angers me if I have to go there. Superdrug is smaller and cheaper and easier to find what you are looking for - I avoid the makeup and assositated preteens gathering.

AsTheyPulledYouOutOfTheOxygenTent · 18/02/2024 10:21

Some Boots are excellent, very well stocked, and have a lot of higher end cosmetics. Some are absolutely tragic. Superdrug are reliably middle of the road, I'll never be able to get Chanel perfume or Lancôme mascara there, but I'll always be able to get my preferred toothpaste and hair care, whereas it's hit and miss in a crap Boots.

I have a few good Boots branches near my home and work, so I spend a lot there, but when I'm running errands in a different area with one of the tragic branches I always go to Superdrug instead, or to an independent pharmacy for prescriptions.

JMSA · 18/02/2024 10:23

I like both. Boots isn't quite as expensive as it used to be, and I do like the odd meal deal now and again. Many own brand products are cheaper than Superdrug (eg handwash and shower gel) and I like that they have high-end cosmetics counters (in the larger brands anyway). My Boots loyalty card seems to accrue more points too.
I definitely agree that Superdrug is one of the better staffed shops.
On paper, it looks like I prefer Boots. I probably do a bit. But there's really not much in it, as both are good in their own ways.

Scarletttulips · 18/02/2024 10:25

and I do like the odd meal deal now and again

That was another thing! Can’t eat mayonnaise when preganant and for a shop that provides baby care there was literally no sandwiches I could buy! I don’t know of this changed but it probably hasn’t.
