Boots or Superdrug

Bibblybumblebee · 18/02/2024 09:41

I’ve always been a loyal Boots customer. Save my points all year to spend at Christmas.
Lately Boots shelves seem to be very bare (the one in my town anyway)

My town has just opened a large Superdrug and I’ve seen they do a loyalty card. They seem to do so many more products in there compared to Boots.

Question- Do you prefer Boots or Superdrug?

Agree with PP that not all Boots are the same. There are some absolutely tragic local high street branches and then some very flashy ones too. Same with Superdrug to some extent.

Boots sell more premium beauty brands like Bobbi Brown, Fenty, Clinique. Superdrug do very good own brand products. They have different deals at any one time. Kind of depends what you’re buying. I use them both regularly including delivery.

BobnLen · 18/02/2024 10:30

Superdrug, our Boots is self service only so I avoid it.

Caffeineislife · 18/02/2024 10:30

Used to be an avid shopper at boots but now almost always go to super drug.

Our boots is dingy, has half empty shelves, never had anyone on the tills, queues for the pharmacy are long and half the time they haven't got a pharmacist on, or the pharmacist is doing a consultation so will be 10 minutes. The staff bar one seems to find all customers annoying. It also seems to be very expensive. Now we are out of the baby stage the parent club isn't so useful. I do like their higher end makeup ranges that they have in bigger stores.

Super drug on the other hand is bright, cheery and always well stocked. The pharmacy is well staffed. There always seems to be offers on something. If they expanded their gift offer at Xmas I would do more of my Xmas spend there too. Day to day they are the better option for me.

I wouldn't choose a shop based on the reward system, if I go there any points are a bonus.

Depending on what you are buying the likes of BodyCare, Savers and Home Bargains may sell the products for less, making the extra reward points useless.

I am still mourning the demise of Wilko though, I liked their first aid etc range.

You can order online for Wilko. I just did a big stock up shop

and I do like the odd meal deal now and again

That was another thing! Can’t eat mayonnaise when preganant and for a shop that provides baby care there was literally no sandwiches I could buy! I don’t know of this changed but it probably hasn’t.

Getting a sandwich without mayonnaise has always been nigh on impossible. If anything the chances of getting one have improved over the years - previously was no chance.

There's absolutely no way that commercial prepackaged sandwiches would contain fresh mayonnaise from unpasteurised eggs. It'll be fine for pregnant women.

I think Boots is now owned by a large American corp. They’ll be trying to reduce costs and stock on the shelves isn’t making any money. Sounds like they haven’t got their supply chain quite right.
I think struggle to recruit pharmacists to, but they score 3.5 on Glassdoor so could be worse.

PossumintheHouse · 18/02/2024 10:33

A lot of it seems to depend on how big your Boots is. The massive one near us is generally well stocked and well staffed, but the small ones are all sad and quiet.

LilBus · 18/02/2024 10:35

Superdrug. I’m another that’s surprised boots still exist I don’t know anyone that shops in there and the only times I’ve ever gone in is to collect prescriptions but I don’t even do that anymore and haven’t in years

KirstenBlest · 18/02/2024 10:36

Boots by far. The local Superdrug is overlit and the aisles are narrow.
I like both, but prefer Boots. The sandwiches in Boots are nice and I love the No 7 make up and skincare.

Moier · 18/02/2024 10:42

Superdrug.
Definitely.

Mairzydotes · 18/02/2024 10:49

Superdrug .
I think most of the local shopping areas have both .

Chipandcheese · 18/02/2024 10:54

I prefer Boots because they have plenty of self-service tills as well as staffed tills on the premium beauty brand counters.

I like Superdrug products but avoid going in because they have no self-service tills and only one or a max of two staff on the tills, always with a massive queue.

It takes ages to get served in Superdrug because the staff are trying to flog random products and get people to sign up to the beauty card. It pisses me off when the queue is a mile long and to every single person they serve, the assistant is all "would you like some shower gel on offer? Would you like some toothpaste? Do you have a beauty card? Would you like one? Are you sure? But you get a 10% discount on your purchase today and it will only take a moment to sign up?" It most definitely does not take just a moment, it takes practically half an hour (slight exaggeration) by the time they've asked for the customer's details, checked the spellings of names and email addresses and then had to go back to correct it all and then explained what the customer does with it and how to see their points balance and whatnot. I end up standing in the queue for ages just to buy one or two items - it's not worth it so I just go to Boots.

The flogging of random items at the till pisses me off. I've walked past the range of shower gels and toothpaste and picked up an eyeliner and a mascara. What about my actions so far suggest what I really wanted was shower gel and toothpaste? If I wanted them, I'd have got them!

I can cope with a lot in life but I definitely can't cope with Superdrug, it stresses me out amd winds me up.

Boots is pretty easy, I just pick up what I want and serve myself with no faffing. Their paper bags annoy me though.

Almahart · 18/02/2024 10:54

The last couple of times I've ordered online from Boots, packages have arrived with spills and items missing. The postman says they are a nightmare

DidYouSeeTheKey · 18/02/2024 10:55

Our Boots is great, it’s over two floors but it’s in a big shopping centre so that probably helps. The Superdrug there is ok, I always choose Boots first but will compare their prices online for my make up.

itsgoingtobeabumpyride · 18/02/2024 10:59

Superdrug all the way for me.
Their own brand items don't test on animals.
They always seem to have loads of offers on.
The shelves are always stocked.
Great range of makeup to suit every purse.
The loyalty card is better, you get a reduced price on different items if you have a card, these offers change regularly.
You can use your points to knock money off at the till, like if you have a 100 points you can knock a £1 off.
Boots card points have to cover the cost of the whole transaction.
I walked past a big Boots yesterday and had a 10 minute walk to Superdrug, I love a mooch round Superdrug

KimberleyClark · 18/02/2024 11:01

I remember when Boots sold books, records, cameras and photographic accessories, stationery, greeting cards and gift wrap, cookware and housewares. Was one of my favourite shops.

FloofyBird · 18/02/2024 11:03

Superdrug

whatisforteamum · 18/02/2024 11:11

Super drug.
My ds worked in boots and often went in super drug.
Better deals and points soon build up.

Mapletreelane · 18/02/2024 11:11

Boots used to be wonderful. I remember applying their graduate programme in the 90s as they had such a great reputation as an employer (I didn't get in!).

I was in the main store in their hometown yesterday, Nottingham. It is like a maze in there, can't find anything, layout is so confusing. Felt really claustrophobic in there. We left and went to superdrug . Shame. Feel like it has never moved with the times.

Pashazade · 18/02/2024 11:20

Since Superdrug have upped their curly hair product selection then I rarely go to Boots. Admittedly our Superdrug is more convenient, but have to agree that the Boots always feels dingy in comparison. Plus getting served can be a faff.

SparkyBlue · 18/02/2024 11:21

I like both. The only Superdrug here is in the city centre and I've a massive shopping centre within walking distance of my house therefore I find myself in boots a lot. However I was in Superdrug yesterday with DD and my god it was amazing value. I did try a new cleanser as well to see if I prefer it to Liz Earle

Mindlesspuzzles · 18/02/2024 11:24

The layout of our local superdrug is better than Boots.
Boots could improve themselves massively by making it easier for customers to find things.

MrsMiddleMother · 18/02/2024 12:24

I prefer superdrug because of the loyalty card, you sometimes get something free too which is nice but still go to Boots for brands I can't get in there and baby stuff.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 18/02/2024 12:32

If I’m in my local crappy shopping town, I’ll only really go into boots if I want to stock up on some codeine! Superdrug seems to have a better selection of cheaper makeup. If I’m getting toiletry essentials I’ll go to bodycare or savers (L’Oreal dream lengths shampoo £6 in boots or Superdrug - £3 in bodycare!)
The big retail park Boots is good for high end makeup and toiletries though.
