New virus with sinus pain…..anyone else

thursdaygrumbles · 14/02/2024 07:05

10 days in now and I’m feeling worse rather than better. Has anyone else had this virus where the sinus pain is off the grid? I’ve gone through about 10 boxes of tissues and I just feel absolutely dreadful. I’m planning on calling the GP today as I think I have a sinus infection

Anyone else suffering with this?

Yes! I’m getting worse by the day and my sinuses, ears and throat are so painful. I’m also on day ten and feel worse now than I did on day three or four.

Luckycloverz · 14/02/2024 07:11

Yes, they're unlikely to give antibiotics yet and will probably prescribe steroid sinus spray - cleared the issue massively within 48hrs for me

To be honest I’d take anything on offer at the moment 😩

I had this last week, tested positive for COVID but it was all in my sinuses. Stuffy head, pain behind the eyes, it was awful! It stabilised at "awful" and then one day I woke up fine, it was like night and day.

FrankieElf · 14/02/2024 07:16

Yes I had it, I think it's Covid but didn't test. Lingered for a while and I'm still feeling wiped out but not 'ill' anymore

violetcuriosity · 14/02/2024 07:23

Yes! Was so close to going to A&E at about 3am, was sweating through my sheets and pounding headache. I think I might have/have had actual flu which is now sinusitis. I've also now got bacterial tonsillitis which the pharmacist prescribed me antibiotics for yesterday, she said the ones she's given will work on any infection lurking in the sinuses and chest too. I wasn't keen on getting the antibiotics but my tonsils are white and actually just felt like anything was worth a shot for the other symptoms. Might be worth going to the pharmacy to get them to have a look at you? I'm now on day 11 and feel so much worse than I did on day 4. Definitely not covid here- honestly can't imagine waking up and feeling better at this point.

oh dear it sounds very similar, I’ll go to the pharmacist this morning, I desperately need to get better as my DD is having an operation next week, she’s only 4 so I need to be well enough to go with her 😢

I would have been taking Sudafed and using a steroid spray at the first sign. You can get these at the chemist.

trooc · 14/02/2024 07:48

Actually you can get them in supermarkets too

thursdaygrumbles · 14/02/2024 07:50

I have been taking Sudafed, I’ve been taking it for about a week, it doesn’t touch the sides

I will try a steroid spray though

I had this and it was covid.

It started with stuffy ears, scratchy throat, streaming eyes and nose with sinus pain. My eyes were streaming so much it was like I was crying and I was sitting with tissue stuffed up my nose.

i went for a nap on Monday afternoon and when I woke up it had completely disappeared, so weird.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 14/02/2024 07:59

I’ve had this. Negative Covid - 3 tests. On my second lot of antibiotics as also have chest infection (again) & ear infection. The sinus pain off the scale. Sudafed didn’t touch the sides.

endoflevelbaddy · 14/02/2024 15:05

Yes DH had it for a couple of weeks of Jan, suspected sinus infection and antibiotics but unfortunately they did bugger all and he just had to ride it out. He's not normally a 'man flu' type but this had him off work and visiting docs because of the pain. Hope you start improving soon 🤞🏼

MillshakePickle · 14/02/2024 15:24

Omfg yes! Currently on day 14 and the sirr throat is finally going. Was a bit scratchy this morning. Felt like the sinus gunk had moved down to my chest this morning. But, since Ive been up and about, I alright. Not well but not as ill as I was a couple of days ago.

And by ill, sadly not to ill to not work or just crash but ill enough to feel absolutely shit no matter what I'm doing.

Hope this is the end

Mossstitch · 14/02/2024 15:34

Worst symptom I had with covid, have you tried ibruphren rather than paracetomol, takes down the inflammation and hurts less. Takes a few hours but it helped me.

rockingbird · 14/02/2024 15:35

I've had something similar and I'm in week 2.. the pain in my ears/head/throat is nasty. I woke up a couple of days ago feeling better 🤷🏼‍♀️ then round two hit me last night! I've just been to the pharmacy and been given some antibacterial throat spray and told to take paracetamol..🥴

AbsolutelyFemale · 14/02/2024 15:41

Yes my son has had it for the past 2 weeks. Absolutely awful headaches from it. Is on his second course of antibiotics, plus a steroid nasal spray. The only thing that eases it is sitting in the steam room at our gym but it's back as soon as he leaves.

Eviebeans · 14/02/2024 16:04

I’ve had this - seemed to go on forever. Had a chest infection and had antibiotics. The sinus pain was crazy. GP advised steam inhalation. A nasal rinse helped me but do be prepared for the horrors that come out.

thursdaygrumbles · 14/02/2024 18:57

Thanks everyone, I was due to see the GP in a sit & wait appointment, but then got a phone call to go over to the pharmacy instead. It’s a new thing they are trialling.

Today the pain has been off the charts, my teeth & gums are now so painful. The only thing the pharmacist could give me was a steroid nasal spray, he said if it’s no better in 2 weeks I can go back for antibiotics 😩 seriously this is awful, if it’s no better by Friday I’m going back to the GP. I’m certain I’ve got a sinus infection as my entire face now hurts.

i haven’t felt this poorly in a very long time 😢

Sorry haven't rtft but I had this (amd a history of sinusitis with regular colds anyway) and you must flush with the national pots. Once, twice a day. In the beginning I add in a steroid spray and judicious otrivine (try not to get hooked on it). But yes. Flush those sinuses!! It can be so hard at the start, like the water won't pass through as sp blocked, but you'll get there in the end. Not only does it feel good, it's cheap and you avoid antibiotics! Good luck!

Seenandheard · 14/02/2024 19:20

Should have proof read!

Neti pots (or similar. Mine is like a big squeezy bottle)

Borgonzola · 14/02/2024 19:32

I had this 3x last year. Eventually got antibiotics for infection, cleared it right up, but the first one left me with altered taste and reduced sense of smell Sad

Borgonzola · 14/02/2024 19:33

Should say tested for Covid each time and got negative result, and Sudafed only really held off the pain for a couple of hours.

Purplecatshopaholic · 14/02/2024 19:35

Yes! I have this - tested positive for Covid - this seems to be the new version. Feel like I have been kicked in the face by a horse!

violetcuriosity · 14/02/2024 19:36

Update- I went to the GP today as my temperature was spiking again. She sent me straight up to the hospital for urgent blood tests and said it could be glandular fever. She said they're seeing a lot of viruses hitting adults much harder than they usually would this year. I'll update when I get the swab results and blood results.
