I like wooden open plan with a calm feel and different textures, similar to the big house little house

What do others like?

Shelves full of books.
Plenty of colour.
No open plan, rooms you can close the door on

I think that looks a bit dull, but taste is very subjective.

Im in love with the french-country design style. It's rich, elegant and stylish. Lmao, my house is so far from any of those things!!🤭🤭🤭

TheGrin · 12/02/2024 13:08

I like yellow and pink colours and chintz. and I love pine kitchen units and furniture, yes I am stuck in a timewarp but I dont care, I like what I like!😂

HATE grey with a passion

Maireas · 12/02/2024 13:09

I like the first "modern" bedroom, the green one is quite nice. They don't exactly look cosy, though.. perhaps just a bit more colour would warm them up.

Precipice · 12/02/2024 13:11

Wood, especially sort of mid-colour (not very pale and not very dark, but a warmish brown). I like a wall covered with shelves and possibly some cabinets (think the old Eastern Block decorating 'furniture-walls', great for saving space). Like some paintings too, so not on all walls, which would feel very crowded.

Like warm colours on walls, largely yellow, sometimes a little more into orange. Brighter for the bathroom, if the bathroom gets decent light, maybe some orange or a bit of red.

Definitely pro-doors! No open plan. Keeps sound down and a sense of privacy and seclusion, which is comforting even if nobody else is actually there.

Maireas · 12/02/2024 13:14

I agree, @Precipice !

yarnwitch · 12/02/2024 13:17

I like neutral colours, but not in a cold clinical way. I like warm greys, greige, white, cream and taupe mixed with rustic wood, oak, lots of nice soft furnishings like throws and cushions, and interesting ornaments. I love country style kitchens with stone floors, shaker style cupboards and butler sinks. This is not a description of my house sadly, but this is the aesthetic I aim for!
I also prefer doors to open plan!

Delerium1970 · 12/02/2024 13:47

I like minimal style and easy maintenance. If I would build house from scratch - would use polished cement walls, modern lights. House should be functional, minimal and easy to maintain - especially for big family. Hype, trends coming and dissapearing.

Maximillism and mid century modern.

SkiSkii · 12/02/2024 13:53

A mix and match combination of modern New York industrial loft, with touches of French chic and the orient, with further hints of tropical plantation.

I would tire of sticking to one style very quickly. This is its own mongrel style.

Naptrappedmummy · 12/02/2024 16:25

I like fairly minimalist, oak furniture, sofas in a strong colour fabric (navy, wine, rust, burnt orange), plants, and those ikea lampshades with gold on the inside Blush (yes they’re ubiquitous but I like them and am hopeless at choosing light shades). I bloody love a fireplace, bonus points for nice tiles (not the nautical star ones) with a wooden mantelpiece.

Same

EmpressSoleil · 12/02/2024 16:33

Maximalism all the way! I love being surrounded by things, colour, patterns. It's taken me many years to build up to the level I wanted and now it still feels like not enough 😂In particular I love Emma J Shipley, her designs are amazing and I have several of her fabrics/wallpapers incorporated into my house. I also like oriental stuff so have a fair bit of that too.

A motorbike on the wall? Who hasn't considered that? 😀

ducksinarow123 · 12/02/2024 16:36

A big squishy tan leather sofa
Neutral walls and wood floor
Natural wood furniture
Lots and lots of books
Some pot plants scattered around
Bright colourful prints and cushions

ducksinarow123 · 12/02/2024 16:41

Similar to these.

I like when a home feels lived in, but calm. Warmth and soul, and not following a trend.
I think you can be stylish & timeless. I like interesting textures, unique objects, art & books etc that reflect the habitants. But chosen carefully, not just clutter.
Carefully eclectic i like to call it..!

Verv · 12/02/2024 16:47

Mid century modern / art deco and industrial.
I like minimalist and uncluttered with the occasional oddity.

KreedKafer · 12/02/2024 17:07

Fairly eclectic. Dark/rich/muted colours with brighter accents. Mix of old and modern. Minimum fuss/fabrics. Interesting stuff on the walls. Grown-up rather than 'family' style.

FourLeggedBuckers · 12/02/2024 17:43

Swords on the wall, suits of armour in the hall.

Alas, I do not live like this…

OpalOrchid · 12/02/2024 17:47

A big TV
Big squashy corner sofa
Plants
Family photos all around
Lamps
Throws on the sofa

itsannie86 · 12/02/2024 17:48

If I’m being totally honest I only like Victorian or Georgian houses (also do like older but not my preferred style) with all or most original features and decorated in keeping with the era. So original floorboards, period paint colours and wallpaper and antique furniture. Lots of oil paintings. Lots of fabrics, lots of curtains etc.
