"A schoolboy is in a serious condition in hospital after being mauled by what is believed to be an XL bully.

Merseyside Police were called to Wadham Road in Bootle just after 5.20pm on Saturday following reports a dog had bitten an eight-year-old boy to the head in the communal area of flats nearby.

The boy was rushed to hospital with serious head injuries and required emergency surgery. He remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition."

IMHO the ban doesn't go anywhere near far enough and all XL Bullys need to be put to sleep.

AIBU?

I don't know why we're all still engaging with that poster, they really are not capable of reason or discussion. Post after post from them, making it all about them and their situation.

Totally agree that XL bullies need to be eradicated, all of them. Even the ones that are neutered can still cause injury/death should they slip their owners' attention. Not worth the risk. Every time I read of an attack it's one of these. It's not the dog's fault that they are killers but they are too dangerous to live in society and anybody who does keep them is severely lacking.

I dread to think of the pending shitstorm that will hit Scotland will all of these rehomed XL bullies. I got the distinct feeling that the 'rescuers' very much enjoyed being in the press for their 15 minutes of fame.

The child will still be harmed, potentially with life changing injuries. The idea is to work together to reduce the likelihood of harm, in my view. Killing the dog once the harm is done doesn’t achieve that. We can’t change the shit people, and they’ve got the dangerous dogs. Your sense of entitlement won’t protect your children - education will

I think you’re confusing ‘sense of entitlement’ with ‘the dog owner is criminally and civilly liable for causing harm’.

There shouldn’t be any dangerous dogs. This isn’t like cars or railway lines or electricity supply: pet dogs are just an indulgence; there’s no utility or social good in pet dog ownership. Other people shouldn’t have to tolerate or minimise any risk from dogs at all.

AMEN to that @WhatsTheUseOfWorrying

I’m not sure how much truth is in this but I keep hearing about this dog Kimbo and how many dogs in the UK are related. Worrying if true.

Bloody hell, did you watch the video on that page of the attack in Birmingham? Shocking.

Yeah it's horrific, once they start they just seem to attack anything they can get hold of. Even being repeatedly hit with a shovel didn't seem to have any affect

PutinSmellsPassItOn · 11/02/2024 22:30

There really needs to be legislation brought in around owning certain breeds, two dumbfucks I know of already have a cane corso and have just picked up a caucasian shepherd, they live in a tiny 2 up 2 down house with a yard which is bad enough but they're also leaving the dogs alone all day.

No training, no thought given to the mental stimulation these two huge dogs capable of killing need. I'm fully expecting a pregnancy announcement soon with the obligatory pictures of a baby draped across the poor mutts giving as much whale eye as they can to show how pissed off they actually are. 🙄

BirthdayRainbow · 11/02/2024 22:31

What is it about thee digs that. Make them attack? Years ago iirc it was Rottweilers that were apparently "bad" but I assumed it was bad training. And I think it is was not like with the X L Bullies now. Sad ironic name.

I hope the boy recovers.

MrsKeats · 11/02/2024 22:36

Why on earth does anyone get one of these dogs?
An attack is in the news every other day now.

EDUCATIONCPD · 11/02/2024 22:39

Absolutely awful, shows the law didn't go far enough.
Usually when a campaign gets going, money gets thrown at it and resources so it becomes to much of a hassle to own the dog.

Unfortunately I don't see any evidence of this.

EDUCATIONCPD · 11/02/2024 22:40

@MrsKeats

Status like a jungle world, it's the equivalent of a gorilla beating its chest and let's face it... Absolutely nothing will happen to the if they own the dog

Sad world we live in when children are paying the price for people to look tough.

Sasqwatch · 11/02/2024 21:06

He's the best boy Bingo

Until he isn’t.

He's also pregnant apparently. What a clever boy 🙄

Missingmyusername · 11/02/2024 23:11

@flashmcdoodle No I agree, they need (as most dogs do?) a firm, consistent level of training. Albeit you can get away with not training all dogs in ‘manners’? I don’t know. MIL had a GSD - untrained beyond potty training, SOFT AS BUTTER!

Her current bichon frise equally untrained, bitey bastard- family falling out as I wouldn’t let DD there as he was air snapping at her- wasn’t accustomed to children (kids are heavy handed) she was a toddler I wouldn’t put the dog or my child in that position. She was simply too young to respect his toy and he wanted it. End of. Not my dog, not my problem (but my child isn’t going there- not fair on dog). Even a small untrained dog can inflict scarring on a child.

Train your bloody dogs or don’t get one.

TerrysNeapolitan · 11/02/2024 23:15

lady mauled to death and now this within one week. These dogs need to go.

Yep! Because Sunak used the ban as a quick win - 'look what I'm doing, fixing problems'. Except they haven't fixed a thing because there's been no tangible follow up from them. Why would these dog owners care about breaking the law if the law isn't being loudly and firmly implemented?! Bloody pigs.

NC543210 · 11/02/2024 23:19

I own a bull breed, not an xl bully as I find them terrifying.
I've seen 3 out in public in the closest major city to me and they're so powerful the owners barely had any control over them.
One was snapping at people in a market square and the owner was saying " say hello he's just playing"
😬🤔

I most definitely wouldn't let my children into a house with one either.
I never thought I'd agree that an entire breed needs euthanasia but this is an exception.
I suspect that a lot of these xlb don't lead very nice lives anyway and euthanasia will probably nicer than the lives they currently lead. Definitely a certain type of person who owns these dogs, clear as day.

FFS, stop persecuting breeds. We're on a cycle, Doberman, Rottweiler, Akita, XL Bully Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Look at all these reports and LOOK at the owner. No we DO NOT need to eradicate these dogs. Listen to yourself, put down an innocent healthy animal? Fuck off 😞

Thank you for that valuable contribution.

Dog lovers 🙄

VeryGoodVeryNice · 11/02/2024 23:24

I’ve seen two today whilst out and about. One being walked on a lead, unmuzzled, in a city centre. And more worryingly, one loose which came charging through a supermarket car park, straight towards a couple with a poodle who were walking along. Luckily it just kept running but I wondered if it had been dumped by its owners. It had very obviously had a lot of puppies, its nipples were down to its knees.

Except (quick Google search will tell you this) in 2021-2023 HALF of all fatal dog attacks were due to one breed - guess who? And that's just the fatal ones. Bully dogs make up 1% of all dog breeds in the UK. YOU listen to YOURSELF.

Why is it on here and social media posts(fb etc) the xl bully lovers show no empathy towards recent attacks/ deaths? They charge in first with not my dog he/ she is a softie ... they never say I hope the child is ok... because they are the type of people that put dogs before children more often then not!!
That's where the problem lies in the first place, they are teaching their fur babies that they ... the dog is alpha and leader of the pack , these people would fight more for the life of a dog over a child.
The dogs must see this in the home, they are spoilt , so no wonder they attack children and other adults they have been taught that they are head of the household , king / queen of the world by thier owners from day one.
If you read any posts with debate over xl bullies you will notice the lack of empathy and it almost comes across as a sigh ... oh another news paper article , how inconvenient to my ownership of a dangerous dog.... never thats very sad I hope the child is going to be ok.
They never mention the victim! They bulldoze straight in with how dare you ban our babies 🙄🙄🙄 it says alot about the type of people that own these horrible dogs!
