Ahh help me with tips...got a cold and sore throat coming and a big event in a week

I need to be physically well in a week for an event that will be very (mentally) challenging and require me to feel strong.

I've got sniffles/feeling of a cold and little sore throat. Have gargled. Will make some chicken soup. What else - any amazing tips or do I just have to accept what comes?

My fear is that there are some bad lurgy's out there at the moment🙁

Vicks First Defence spray work a try?

WizardinTraining · 09/02/2024 07:34

First Defence nasal spray - I was sceptical but it really works for me.

HesterRoon · 09/02/2024 07:35

Definitely First Defence. Use a few times.

MBM18 · 09/02/2024 07:35

I haven't used it myself but I used to work with someone who swore the First Defence sprays worked when she started feeling a cold coming on.
Worth a try?

MBM18 · 09/02/2024 07:36

Cross posts. Ok that's convinced me to try it next time I feel a cold coming on 😂

twoleggedpirate · 09/02/2024 07:36

in scotland there is a herbalist called napiers that does a tonic called super plus echinacia. I don’t know where you live but maybe can order online. It stops bugs in their tracks! Normal echinacia won’t cut it! I’ve only found this particular tonic to work. Ps. It tastes horrible but really works!

Musiclover234 · 09/02/2024 07:38

i use first defence, not sure if it works or not for everyone but it’s worth a try.

Good nutrition lots of veg/fruit get those vitamins in. Give your body energy to fight it. Plenty of fluids. Bit of outside walking if you feel up to it. Also rest a bit too if you can.

TookTheBook · 09/02/2024 07:40

If it's in a whole week's time then the answer is to rest now! Let your body fight it, go easy on yourself, more likely it will pass by your event rather than you trying to hold it at bay and feeling worse then.

So many illnesses circulating at the moment. Two of my colleagues came down to my town for an event despite being sick, both had been quite unwell for 5 days at that point, and it sounded awful. It’s been 3 days since I seen them now and I’m hopeful I got away with it

liveforsummer · 09/02/2024 07:49

All
Geode the first defence, coco is throat spray. You need to ask for it behind the counter. Amazing stuff! I used to get recurrent tonsillitis but not had it once since I discovered it

newusern99 · 09/02/2024 07:50

I use boots dual defence spray and a saline nasal spray. Avoided three household viruses so far. Also 1g vitamin c, 4000IU vit D with K2, zinc and 600mg N acetyl cysteine.

liveforsummer · 09/02/2024 07:50

That was meant to say alongside. Not sure what happened 😆

frazzled22 · 09/02/2024 07:51

Drink loads of water and take a good vitamin tablet containing vitamin c and zinc

iamaMused · 09/02/2024 07:54

All of the above plus gargle with chlorhexidine gluconate mouthwash AKA Corsodyl but much cheaper. Works wonders to kill off the bugs that cause a sore throat.

Glitterblue · 09/02/2024 07:55

Definitely the First Defence stuff although I’ve only used the Lemsip version. DH and I have both used it on two different occasions and both times it’s stopped the thing in its tracks. My parents use it too, although my mum has to keep reminding my dad to use it 😂 My friend also swears by soluble vitamin C with zinc. She takes it every day now and has been healthy this entire winter, whereas she was catching every lurgy going before, because she’s always so busy and rushes around not having time to eat etc and gets really run down.

Aagh, I can't use nasal sprays for various reasons. Bollocks.

Opps. Read the post wrong. Apologies.

DG1749 · 09/02/2024 08:14

Sleep, raw garlic, gargling with TCP, echinacea drops, mind over matter are all things which have worked for me on occasion.

DG1749 · 09/02/2024 08:15

Oh and high dose vitamin C

Very very healthy food. A lot of water. Early night. Get out in the fresh air. Get out again and get some more fresh air. Repeat repeat repeat. No sitting in hot stuffy rooms.

WhamBamThankU · 09/02/2024 10:02

Drink firewater. Ginger, garlic, lemon, honey, cayenne pepper in hot water.

ChatterMonkey · 09/02/2024 10:06

Honey and lemon hot drinks sort me out when im feeling under the weather. Loads of honey (the expensive manuka honey if you can!) And lots of lemon juice with hot water.

I agree with this. If you are coming down with it now it will hopefully be over in a week.
