2 kids tonight both starting with what I assume is Norovirus. Meaning one can't go to nursery and other can't go to school. No other childcare!!! I'm due at work tues and weds. Aibu to not go to work? I won't be able to send them off for at least 48 hours

Well obviously yanbu if there's nobody to look after them? Do you have a partner? If so, maybe you could take a day off each to make it a bit more balanced.

I do but he earns 10x what I do quite literally, so his work takes priority as it pays the bills etc

Starfish1021 · 05/02/2024 21:16

Does he not get paid if he takes leave?

hedgehugsandkisses88 · 05/02/2024 21:17

He has his own business so if he has a day off he just gets behind on work

I won't get paid for having time off, I'm in a low paid hourly rate job.

Surely with such a high paying job he will get paid time off? Also losing one days pay(for him) will presumably not impact you too much?

It isn’t fair for one person to always take the hit. Split it.

Then he can work in the evening?

Mindymomo · 05/02/2024 21:20

Norovirus is extremely contagious, I hate to say it, but there’s a chance both you and your DH will catch it.

TrafficBlocking · 05/02/2024 21:20

If my colleagues kids had norovirus I'd be quite happy for them to stay home!!!.

BitOutOfPractice · 05/02/2024 21:21

What does he do? Office based or trade?

Yoyooo · 05/02/2024 21:21

He earns over £100 a hour 😲

TeaKitten · 05/02/2024 21:21

If it’s norovirus you will have it by tomorrow too. If DH can’t have them then you’ve obviously got no option but to take it off

hedgehugsandkisses88 · 05/02/2024 21:22

If I'm honest when they're poorly, the kids want me. Especially my eldest. He can't do much work on an evening as the businesses he contacts and deals with mostly close at 5. So he can do some evening work but it's limited.

OP posts:
hedgehugsandkisses88 · 05/02/2024 21:22

@Yoyooo I earn 8k a year.. he earns 80k+

hedgehugsandkisses88 · 05/02/2024 21:23

@TeaKitten oh joy 😢😢

OP posts:
RandomMess · 05/02/2024 21:23

I too think you will succumb. Only time I didn't was when I was away with work!

Amba1998 · 05/02/2024 21:25

You’ll get it yourself

so the argument as to who takes the day off with the kids will soon be redundant

TheSnowyOwl · 05/02/2024 21:26

Regardless of what your partner earns, its perfectly reasonable to have the time off.

hedgehugsandkisses88 · 05/02/2024 21:27

Oh great.. I'll look forward to that 😢 I wouldn't want to go to work tomorrow anyway as I imagine we won't be getting much sleep

MadamVastra · 05/02/2024 21:27

So what do you want us to suggest op

bibbidiblobidyboo · 05/02/2024 21:28

To be honest, if it is Norovirus, you could well be ill yourself by morning.

EdgarsTale · 05/02/2024 21:29

Some people are immune to Norovirus, so never get it. Hopefully you’re one of them OP.

Shinyandnew1 · 05/02/2024 21:32

Aibu to not go to work?

Well, someone will presumably need to look after the children. You phoning work and taking leave is one option, yes. What is the alternative?

Starfish1021 · 05/02/2024 21:40

I’m not seeing the point of your thread. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect your partner to take a turn in looking after sick children. But you obviously do. You have sick children, and therefore won’t be able to go to work. Honestly not sure what you want people to say?
