to think that regular MNers should check the unanswered threads section

Preggopreggo · 05/02/2024 05:58

I have only just realised that this section exists.

Its very sad to see all the posts from people about things like loneliness/domestic violence/PND with zero replies

And then there’s some threads that randomly have 100s and 100s of responses, so many that’s it’s probably too overwhelming for the OP

IABU - It’s a dog eat dog world out here

IANBU - share the love

Yes I do check the new threads quite often, didn’t realise there was an unanswered section.

Just12345 · 05/02/2024 06:00

How do you find this section ?

heldinadream · 05/02/2024 06:01

You're right OP. It's like noticing the lonely person at an event and going and saying hello to them. I did see that it exists recently and had a mosey on over there, but then I forgot about it, so thank you for the reminder.

Good for you!!!

This thread is about HOW you spend your MN time, not HOW MUCH time you spend on here.

If you want people to do something that’s not obvious, it might help if you told them how….?

eggbot · 05/02/2024 06:05

I have a look from time to time - often it's subjects I can't really talk about though

NoStarsTonight · 05/02/2024 06:06

Years ago regulars would check it often - quite heartwarming. Don’t know why we stopped - the place got bigger and faster moving maybe. I will make an effort to check it more often.

How do you find this section ?

From the menu:

Talk > Active > Unanswered

Or click the Active button on the blue bar on the bottom of the mobile site screen, and then select Unanswered

Yes, I was unaware of its existence and couldn't find it when I tried just now.

Exactly! It’s painful to think that it may have taken a lot for someone in a dark place to post and then met with silence

I didn’t realise about this section but now I do I will definitely endeavour to comment where I can.
I feel less “educated” compared to the majority on Mumsnet so I don’t comment much as I feel my input may sound silly if that makes sense?

Any luck? It’s when you go to Talk > Active, there is a horizontal menu with

Active Trending New Unanswered

Maybe @MNHQ could make it more obvious?

I used to do this when on a desktop but I can't find this anywhere on the app.

You beat me to it!

I didn't know that this was a thing, just tried finding it on the app and can't.

StuffLoriThangs · 05/02/2024 06:18

I stopped doing that because I ended up wasting my time due to new users creating multiple threads of the same thing/same post. HTH.

Weftaway768 · 05/02/2024 06:18

Thanks for the reminder op.

How do we access unanswered threads again please? I can’t find them under “Other stuff” or “Site stuff”… ?

It’s interesting because years and years ago when it was all just fields around here, and Mumsnet was in its infancy, there was a little cohort of regulars who took it upon themselves to answer unanswered threads. It was rather touching I thought!

And I agree with you, since this site has grown, and the threat of newspapers poaching stories has become more prevalent, people have been understandably more reluctant to post about private issues, and those that are brave enough get thousands and thousands of replies many of which say the same thing.

It would be good to redistribute the focus a little.

Crossed posts!

Thank you op - I see it now - it’s in the same place where you go to start a new thread or flip a thread.

Thank you for pointer!

Have just checked unanswered thread section and I see what you mean!

There are multiple threads on there atm obviously posted by one person or business entity about severe anxiety.

Maybe this is something that Mumsnet Towers could try and keep tabs on?

Wonderful idea. Thanks for the heads up.

ShufflingAlong · 05/02/2024 06:25

Cannot see that listed anywhere on the app so think it must need a browser to access.
