to think that regular MNers should check the unanswered threads section

I have only just realised that this section exists.

Its very sad to see all the posts from people about things like loneliness/domestic violence/PND with zero replies

And then there’s some threads that randomly have 100s and 100s of responses, so many that’s it’s probably too overwhelming for the OP

IABU - It’s a dog eat dog world out here

IANBU - share the love

I can't get it on my app.

But more than just the unanswered ones there are ones either just one or 2 not great answers that are just as deserving of more support.

Sometimes I go through the topics and look for threads.

Often unfamiliar posters/newbies post in obscure topics that don't get attention for really quite important/urgent issues.

cordeliachaseatemyhandbag · 05/02/2024 09:24

Eg the victims of crime board has some harrowing stories that are mostly unread.

MermaidEyes · 05/02/2024 09:33

Or maybe everybody should just uninstall the app and use the mobile desktop, seeing as the app is never going to be functional in any significant manner.

I prefer the app, everything is more simple. I only use Active, Threads I'm On or occasionally hunt through Topics anyway. The mobile desktop (for me) is awful, far too busy and full of ads, I can't find anything.

Very sad. I didn’t know this, thank you for pointing it out, will check it

Yes! I went on a quick spree and answered about 8, all serious topics and most got a response from the OP and are now in active threads

Periodically in the past you used to see from time to time a thread “Shoutout to the unanswered thread section, let’s all go answer some unanswered threads” and people would chip in and report that they had answered one or two.

I always thought this quite sweet - and perhaps a more friendly and encouraging way of putting it than thinking of checking the unanswered threads section as something regular MNers “should” do.

Semantics!!

There is no 'should'.

People come on here for a bit of light relief and a way to wind down. If theybsee a thread they feel strongly about, or can advise on, they reply.

But there is no obligation. No one is here purely to see who they can help today.

There's also little point in many "I don't have any advice but didn't want to leave your question unanswered" type responses either.

If people come here to answer threads and chat then I do think they should sometimes check the unanswered threads rather than only checking trending or active threads. Of course there’s no obligation, it’s an Internet forum

There's also little point in many "I don't have any advice but didn't want to leave your question unanswered" type responses either.

As pp said, these can be a big help in bumping a thread and making it active. It could save a life.

I used to when I was using the browser on a laptop. But now I use the app on an iPad as it's much more readable for my now-longsighted eyes.

I keep forgetting to check the Petitions and Activism board for interesting petitions too.

I don't owe mumsnet anything. I'm here to mess around.

Aren’t you a warm fluffy barrel of laughs. Pillar of the MN community I’m sure.

I sometimes do click on the 'unanswered' threads section and post a response. But usually I find looking over there makes my heart ache, similarly to OP, so I avoid it 😣

LightDrizzle · 05/02/2024 11:34

That’s a good idea, thank you.

Maybe @MNHQ could make it more obvious?

Yes it could be tacked under trending, I'll flag this post to MNHQ great reminder thank you.

Years ago regulars would check it often - quite heartwarming. Don’t know why we stopped - the place got bigger and faster moving maybe. I will make an effort to check it more often.

That's right. Unfortunately it's not accessible from the app, and this old timer only uses the app.

Aren’t you a warm fluffy barrel of laughs. Pillar of the MN community I’m sure.

But that's true of many people using it.

Read, reply if you want. That's it.

That's proven by the fact "Hi mumnset, what is everyone up to today" threads on a Sunday are always well answered!

ApricotCrush · 05/02/2024 20:18

I always feel bad for the poster if I come across an unanswered thread and usually direct them to a section where they will get more traffic.

theeyeshaveit82 · 12/02/2024 11:11

have you kept it up OP?!

YetAnotherSpartacus · 12/02/2024 11:51

I've only just seen this and I will now check it daily.

Thank you, OP!
