...to think this is a really good drawing for a four year old!

My friend's daughter is 4 and drew this picture while I was at their house. She explained it's a crocodile with some rocks, and she said that a lion walked across the field and then added some lion footprints at the bottom! AIBU to think this is way advanced for a 4 year old?! My son is 4 and is still drawing people as blobs with limbs coming out of them!

I'm afraid it looks like a 4 year old drew it.

PoisonMaple · 04/02/2024 19:28

It looks like what it is, a 4 year olds drawing.

QuestionableMouse · 04/02/2024 19:28

It looks exactly like what my youngest nephew would draw.

He's five.

Cloudbuggi · 04/02/2024 19:29

Looks like a normal 4 year old's drawing.

MyBrownEyedHandsomeBoy · 04/02/2024 19:30

I would be well proud of this if my 4 yr old son did this!! Then again he is 2y 10m and he has just discovered picking his nose and prefers doing that to drawing so...

Cloudnumber9 · 04/02/2024 19:30

It’s a nice picture but nothing remarkable. My son could drawer at a similar level from age 4.

YesThatsATurdOnTheRug · 04/02/2024 19:30

I have two kids, at four one of them was drawing like that and the other was still doing scribbles and blobs.

Butterandtoast · 04/02/2024 19:31

You're going to get a lot of blunt responses on here op. It's not a very friendly part of mumsnet.

I think it's a really good picture, lots of detail.

FoodWineAndSun · 04/02/2024 19:31

Well I think it's a lovely drawing and certainly better than by 5 year old drawings.

My 5 year old can draw 2 things from memory (a rainbow and a picture of our family).

Boobettes · 04/02/2024 19:31

It's so sweet and I love the detail! 😍😍

But it does look like a 4 or 5 year old drew it.

Poudretteite · 04/02/2024 19:31

It looks good but not shockingly advanced. DS was still drawing blobs at 4 but DD was drawing things more like this

MyBrownEyedHandsomeBoy · 04/02/2024 19:31

I suppose her imagination is really good to say she described the rocks and went into detail about the lions paw prints though!

SgtJuneAckland · 04/02/2024 19:32

Looks similar to DS' he's just turned 5. There is a girl in his class who can draw fantastically like you might think a talented 9/10 year old did it, perspective, shading the works. She can also read pretty well and her handwriting is impeccable she wrote DS' birthday card with a lovely message in it, a couple of sentences.

VivaVivaa · 04/02/2024 19:32

Well I’m impressed, especially if she’s just turned 4. DS (4 in a couple of months) is nowhere near being able to draw like this. He can still barely sit still long enough to hold a pencil let alone draw!

cerisepanther73 · 04/02/2024 19:33

It looks like a lovely picture @Probablyfinebutworried

I think 🤔 it's wonderful she is inspired by wildlife and nature
that's refreshing young one 👌 like her..

I like the colour orange is such vibrant energetic feel good factor energy...
Good choice of colour

reminds me of hot countries ...

ScarlettDarling · 04/02/2024 19:33

I teach Reception class and there are lots of children who draw like this (and much better) at this age. Of course loads are also doing indistinguishable blobs! It’s well within the ‘normal’ range but is still a lovely picture.

BalloonSlayer · 04/02/2024 19:33

I think it's impressive for 4 but this is Mumsnet so you could have posted the Mona Lisa and someone would say their 6 month old could have done better.

cerisepanther73 · 04/02/2024 19:35

@Probablyfinebutworried
I am impressed she can sit still enough to draw like that at her age.

AlltheFs · 04/02/2024 19:37

It’s the sort of thing my DD can draw, she is 4 and still at nursery. But some of her nursery peers can’t draw much detail yet. All depends in what their fine motor skills are like. My DD’s are good but she still can’t run so….

It basically at the good end @Probablyfinebutworried in my experience. Not remarkable but very good.

Whattodo2024 · 04/02/2024 19:37

I think that’s excellent for a 4 year old!

KeepGoing2 · 04/02/2024 19:39

Looks like a normal 4yo drawing to me, which is not damning with faint praise- it's fab, really full of detail and character- 4yos can do some good stuff!

babybrum · 04/02/2024 19:39

I think it's really good for 4. A lot of four year olds still scribble. You should be proud OP

Andthereyougo · 04/02/2024 19:39

Doesn’t matter if it looks like a 4 , 5 or 6 year old drew it. The little girl has a lovely imagination and could describe the picture to you. Love it.
The paw prints are great.

LittleMonks11 · 04/02/2024 19:40

Ummmm. I was definitely expecting something a little more advanced. I'd say no.

cariadlet · 04/02/2024 19:40

It's a lovely picture but not advanced for a 4 year old.

Some will still be producing blobs which you have to tactfully get them to interpret for you while others will produce very detailed and recognisable drawings. (former Foundation Stage teacher)
