Offering to put dog poo bag in bin

Hysteria30 · 01/02/2024 19:49

when I walk my dog, I occasionally stop and chat with people with their dogs. Today, I chatted briefly to a woman with her dog and I noticed that her dog had done its business after the poo bin. There isn’t many in my area and that’s where I was heading with mine so I offered to put hers in the bin. She was lovely about it and told my dog she had a lovely Mammy and it made me feel nice but my husband said it’s weird of me to even offer that. He said he would never do that but he never speaks to other walkers just pulls our dog away. I just don’t get it though. I was going to the bin and I knew the woman wouldn’t likely pass another one on her walk. Am I weird?

You sound like a lovely helpful person

Nttttt · 01/02/2024 19:50

Polite but yes a bit odd… I wouldn't want to carry another dogs poop with me for any amount of time.

Hysteria30 · 01/02/2024 19:51

Thank you :) I just know sometimes it’s not nice carrying the bag around and I even said to the woman, they always wait til after the bin to do it.

Lol yeah I think that’s my husband’s thought on it too. I knew I wasn’t far from the bin though.

Not weird, kind thing to offer. They always go after walking past the bin don't they 😂

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 01/02/2024 19:53

@Hysteria30 Yep I used to do the same thing when walking the dogs!

Hysteria30 · 01/02/2024 19:53

Thank you and yes! Don’t get me wrong, if I didn’t know there was a bin coming up I wouldn’t offer. I guess I’m a people pleaser as no one has offered me so must be a little odd 😂

Not weird since you're comfortable with it! Very helpful in fact. Who likes carrying poo around?!

Hysteria30 · 01/02/2024 19:54

Aw good glad I’m not the only one!

Hysteria30 · 01/02/2024 19:55

Thanks everyone you’ve reassured me now but I may stop offering as it does seem weird in a way 😂

I’m also a nurse so poo doesn’t bother me anymore 😂

I think it was very kind and thoughtful of you! And if your husband thinks that’s bad, I’m forever picking up poo bags that other people have just dumped! 🤬 (Not exactly my favourite thing to do, but who else is going to do it?! I just put them inside a fresh bag from my pocket and take them to the nearest bin along with mine.)

sueelleker · 01/02/2024 20:07

YANBU. I've done it myself, when I know I'll be passing a bin soon.

Hysteria30 · 01/02/2024 20:07

Thanks, I should maybe start doing that too if I know I’m going to reach a bin :)

ThreePointOneFourOneFiveNine · 01/02/2024 20:09

Not at all weird, I've done the same thing myself.

SisterMichaelsHabit · 01/02/2024 20:12

Sorry this does sound a bit weird to me. A bit overly-helpful like you need to always please people. I'd think it a bit odd if you asked that, and I'd never ever feel comfortable saying yes and handing over a bag of poo to someone to deal with, even if I had to double back to find a bin.

Hysteria30 · 01/02/2024 20:16

Yeah I think that’s what it is. But the poo bin situation in our area is poor. I guess people don’t mind just carrying it home though.

Does your husband often expect you to be just like him, and the only alternative is 'weird'?

HardcoreLadyType · 01/02/2024 20:18

I picked up a big pile of poo the other day that someone else had left. I was worried someone might easily tread in it - it was right in the path.

So, I’m definitely going to say YANBU.

Hysteria30 · 01/02/2024 20:20

He just isn’t like me in a lot of respects. I like my dog to see other dogs (if it’s ok) and I love dogs so more than happy to stop and see them when walking :)

YeOldeGreyhound · 01/02/2024 20:32

Nothing weird about it at all. You were just helping another dog walker out.

itsgoingtobeabumpyride · 01/02/2024 20:33

That's really kind of you, I'd have appreciated that.
We walk down a country lane, no poo bins, ddog poos and I carry the poo bag practically at arms length.
My dfriend puts her used poo bag in her coat pocket 🤢 my spirit dies a little bit more every time she does it

GallbladderWoes · 01/02/2024 20:36

I think you're really kind!

Me though, I have 8 dogs and their poo? Fine.

A strange dog's poo? I'm wretching 😂 I know it's absolutely ridiculous but I imagine it's like your own child's poo v a random kid's poo. Just no. So you have my utmost respect!

DrFoxtrot · 01/02/2024 20:38

I think the only weird thing is that you had a conversation about offering to bin someone else's dog poo 😂. Assuming he wasn't with you, that is. After the event, it wouldn't even register as a thing to mention, how did it come up?!

Hysteria30 · 01/02/2024 20:38

I knew the bin was coming up so that’s why I offered. Please don’t think I’m walking up to anyone with a bag and carrying loads around the estate 😂 yeah my husband couldn’t even cope with our baby’s nappy at the time so this would be the last thing he would do 😂
