For those who don't know. Threads was a tv film about a nuclear bomb hitting the UK. Was made about 40 years ago

I think it's time for a remake. Aibu

It doesn't need remaking, nor does When The Wind Blows.

AwkwardPaws27 · 30/01/2024 23:02

I think it still hits hard enough without remaking it. I first watched it in my early 20s, decades after it was made, & its left a lasting impression.

CagneyAndLazy · 30/01/2024 23:03

Would be great! I loved Threads - I think we have it on DVD somewhere, actually.

shootingstar1 · 30/01/2024 23:03

That film terrified me 😱! So grim and depressing .... never watch it again .

SurelySmartie · 30/01/2024 23:05

Doesn’t need remaking. I watched it the other day. It’s still horrible and chilling and still just as effective.

FootFlapperage · 30/01/2024 23:08

I don't think you'll get anything better than the original film

Hermittrismegistus · 30/01/2024 23:10

YANBU. It's a great film but I think it would do well to be made into a mini series.

Dylaninthemovies1 · 30/01/2024 23:10

Actually, just watched the bomb scene from the original on you tube and yeah, ducking terrifying

I've never forgotten the woman wetting herself on the pavement

It's still powerful. I wouldn't want a remake

Nat6999 · 30/01/2024 23:13

I live in Sheffield & was about 17 when it was first shown, it was terrifying watching something like that about somewhere you were so familiar with.

thenightsky · 30/01/2024 23:13

Where is it available to watch? I watched it as a teen. I'm in my early 60s now and its stayed with me.

thenightsky · 30/01/2024 23:14

But no, I don't think it should be remade. They'll make a hash of it like most remakes.

Oneofthesurvivors · 30/01/2024 23:18

What would a remake achieve?

Messedupabit · 30/01/2024 23:22

We had to watch it in school when I was 14. Traumatised me and many others in my class. 26 years later and I still feel sick thinking about it.
Why the fuck would you want a remake??

CagneyAndLazy · 30/01/2024 23:31

The special effects would be better these days, though, at least.

I had to buy a dvd to watch it. The bomb scene is on YouTube

It’s still on dailymotion in 2 parts.

It’s the roughness of the effects that add to its effectiveness.

Dylaninthemovies1 · 30/01/2024 23:39

Maybe a rewatch will help focus minds on securing peace. (But, I’m probably being ridiculously unrealistic with that idea)

I was so scared by Treads, an amazing tv show...also growing up with the protect and survive propaganda...I was in CND and went to Greenham Common....would do it all again. I'm so depressed by the way the world has declined...or whisper...how men have been allowed to follow their egos!

SurelySmartie · 30/01/2024 23:42

I mean it’s on Amazon where you should pay to watch it obvs. 😇

SecondHandFurniture · 30/01/2024 23:49

Don't need one. You'll never beat the terror of the blue typewriter text appearing with phrases like "Massive damage to communications across Europe" and "Single warhead explodes over North Sea" intersected by scenes of people screaming.

rubydoobydoo · 30/01/2024 23:51

I don't think it needs a remake, the original is enough.
Although I suppose relating it to modern times with better special effects may connect with the younger generation better?

I forgot how grim it was the first time I watched it and made the mistake of watching it again years later - not going to do that again!

hogmanayhoolie · 31/01/2024 00:04

I'm an idiot and went and watched the bomb clip on YouTube

I won't sleep now

pasteloblong · 31/01/2024 00:07

No, no remake. It's totally realistic and gritty and you could never recreate that because the people today never lived with the threat of nuclear war for years and years. If Hollywood tried you'd just know it'd have perfectly made up identikit Barbie and Ken type actors and they'd be eating out of date pop tarts instead of sheep carcasses. It would be pathetic and laughable.

There can only ever be one 'Threads'.

redastherose · 31/01/2024 00:17

I watched it a few years ago for the first time. It is truly terrifying and doesn't need to be remade just rereleased.
