Just watching Adventureland on Netflix and I swear she's doing the exact same thing as Bella Swann - funny mouth movements, lots of hair faffing, looking down and stuttering.

Has she ever played a different character? How has she been so successful? This is shit.

Disclaimer: I'm yet to see the Diana film. Perhaps that could change my mind?

She's really good in the Diana film

squirrelnutkin23 · 25/01/2024 07:34

I just get all the breathy awkward acting. Why hasn't any director ever told her it's crap.

I saw her in a film recently (Into the Wild?) and yes, same facial expression as every other role. She's very attractive but doesn't seem to have any range.

Emmelina · 25/01/2024 08:13

I find her very wooden.

EmilyTjP · 25/01/2024 08:16

Exactly the same in the Diana film too 😂

TomWambsgansSwans · 25/01/2024 08:16

She is absolutely brilliant in Still Alice, a film about Alzheimer's.

Summerdew · 25/01/2024 08:18

Maybe it’s her style of acting that gets her cast and maybe that’s what the directors ask for.

Whatdoy · 25/01/2024 08:27

I think she’s great (but I never bothered much with twilight so maybe that’s what has tainted her for people).

Ace56 · 25/01/2024 08:29

That’s her style and is obviously what made her popular (although I also would be interested to see Diana!). Lots of actors are the same - Jennifer Aniston, Hugh grant, Jim Carey to name but a few. No range really, they all just play the same character.

Watercoloursky · 25/01/2024 08:32

I haven't seen Twilight, but I watched Cafe Society yesterday and thought she was good in that.

Caliope27 · 25/01/2024 08:35

You're not wrong, she was awful in the Diana film too. One trick pony.

susiedaisy1912 · 25/01/2024 08:37

I get what you mean op. Her range seems limited. But I guess she using the talent that she has and rolls with it. There are lots of actors who are the same in every roll they play. She's stunningly beautiful which helps. I was a huge twilight fan but even I thought she was the same in each scene of the movies.

Edited

Hugh Grant and Jenifer Anniston perhaps but not Jim Carey! Yes he's great at wacky but he's done some very heartfelt films too - Eternal Sunshine for example.

I suppose it's just her style but it's a very irritating style imo 😂

Actors tend to find their character and stick with it through their acting career. If directors didn’t think she was good then they’d not cast her. If she didn’t have a good fanbase then she’d not be successful either. Personally I can’t stand her but there must be plenty that think she’s brilliant. I’d hate to have others criticise my work, don’t think it’s right to criticise another’s.

DocOck · 25/01/2024 08:58

Loads of actors "play the same" as a previous poster said. Watched that Fool Me Once last week and Joanna Lumley is the same in every show she's in these days. So Kristen Stewart is not alone!

Tattletwat · 25/01/2024 08:58

In my opinion she's a terrible actress, never any good.

But hey shes made a success of it so fair play to her.

Yes true actually, I’d forgotten about eternal sunshine. But you get the point, some actors are just type cast and she is too! I suppose it is quite a unique awkward style?

NotMarriedToAHouse · 25/01/2024 09:06

Whatever you think of her, she's succeeded as an actress and done well. So she must have something directors see that you don't. I doubt she cares what you think.

She really wasnt

Mrsjayy · 25/01/2024 09:09

Diana was always hair faffing and giving withered looks Kirstin Stuart .is perfect for the role, that's her range like lots of actors they play the same character.

Sofabum · 25/01/2024 09:10

Mumble mumble mumble

VampireWeekday · 25/01/2024 09:11

The casting director for Twilight was inspired in choosing her for the role. She plays the character perfectly. In the book half of what she does is look awkward and breathe heavily. That odd spaced out 'woodenness' is exactly how Bella is supposed to be.

parsnippip · 25/01/2024 09:12

Some actors are like this, see Keira Knightley (awful actress in my opinion). I think Kirstin Stewart has been better in better films made by better directors films some actors are like that and some are just good no matter what. I do find she tends to "hunch up" a bit on screen which is perhaps an attempt to convey something but ends up looking awkward but its better than Knightley's gurning on screen.

Wishimaywishimight · 25/01/2024 09:14

I thought she was dreadful in 'Spencer', one of the very few films I seriously considered walking out (I didn't though).

I find her really uncomfortable to watch, the stuttering, little gasps/exhalations, pausing between words - I can't really explain it. I had quite enjoyed the Twilight books but she ruined the movies.

NotMarriedToAHouse · 25/01/2024 09:24

I did like her in Twilight, but I think I watched the movies before I read the books. Or maybe I saw the first movie then read the books. Can't remember. But I do like her as Bella.
