Just watching Adventureland on Netflix and I swear she's doing the exact same thing as Bella Swann - funny mouth movements, lots of hair faffing, looking down and stuttering.

Has she ever played a different character? How has she been so successful? This is shit.

Disclaimer: I'm yet to see the Diana film. Perhaps that could change my mind?

Re facial expressions - you have to same face so there is always going to be some similarity through performances! I also think there are a lot of actors who get cast in a part because they have done something similar before - like they are always villains, etc etc. Not everyone gets offered a range of parts to play and as movies cost more and more, production is going for more and more safe bets.

And of course, there are are also people who are beautiful/appealed to the director in some way and have no talent.

Sparklesocks · 25/01/2024 12:52

It’s fine not to like her, as it is any actor - I’m not sure why you need assurance of your opinion! but I think she’s made more diverse choices as her career has gone on, compared to the films in her earlier days than you mention. I liked her in Personal Shopper and Crimes of the Future - the latter is a David Cronenberg film so quite different to twilight.

SirenSays · 25/01/2024 12:54

Nepo baby? She has the range of a wet lettuce.

gaggiagirl · 25/01/2024 13:07

@Kittylickingplate yes! It was such a cool film , very subtle.

Minesril · 25/01/2024 13:13

Film Bella: 'so...erm...this bachelor party...will there be strippers?'

Book Bella: 'you're not taking him to a strip club, are you??'

Subtle difference, which may be down to writing/directing. The only scenes which came close to book Bella was when she was a vampire.

I liked her in Adventureland.

I don't need assurance lol. I'm perfectly confident with my decision not to like her.

It's a discussion, not validation.

I was just talking about her the other day.
I stand by she plays the exact same type in every thing she does.
Think surly/Emo/Goth depressed/issues.
From Panic room through to Still Alice ( though I never watched Twilight)
Both brilliant films with superb leading Actresses.
She's just.. Meh..

And I’ve contributed to the discussion too, I just think it’s a bit odd to create a thread solely to slag off an actor you don’t like.

squirrelnutkin23 · 25/01/2024 17:51

@Sparklesocks what's odd about it? MN is made up of people talking about things, people, situations they like and don't like. I've seen far odder threads to be honest.

I liked her in Adventureland.

That is possibly one of worst films I've ever seen it's all bad.

@DocOck
I was transfixed by her immobile face, complete lack of expression, it was spooky, barely recognised her at first

I suppose I just think it’s quite mean spirited.

squirrelnutkin23 · 25/01/2024 19:31

@Sparklesocks are you new here 😂

I don't think I'm a mean spirited person. Certainly I'm not mean to those around me. And it's not like actors or sportsmen or singers or artists or any other people in the public eye are 'fair game' as such but if you put yourself out there it's a fact that you'll get critiqued at some point. KS will never see this and if she did I'm sure she's heard it all before. And as pp said, she's successful and rich enough not to care.

Chill.

I thought she was wooden in everything I've seen her in. To be fair, that's probably only Twilight and the Snow White thing.

I'm absolutely gobsmacked by posters saying she's stunning or beautiful. I think she's very, very average looking, and actually pretty plain by 'Hollywood' standards.
