Fucking eBay how to resolve

FYEbay · 19/01/2024 23:11

I opened an eBay account for the first time couple of weeks ago to sell a few bits (low value items). I posted them on the day of the sale, all feedback so far has been positive.

Today out of the blue l get email that my account has been permanently suspended, my funds are blocked, no actual reason given. Customer service (joke), sends me a copy and paste of messages that other suspended users posted on X/ Reddit and eBay pages.

i am now out of the pocket for postage fees, have no goods and no money. I am so fucking angry.

does anyone know where to escalate this? Can I report them to the trading standards? I did not violate any of their so called rules 🤬😡

I dont understand, there must be a reason? And they copied and pasted messages to you?

Deathbyfluffy · 19/01/2024 23:20

There must be a reason. Prohibited items? Have you had an account suspended in the past?

FYEbay · 19/01/2024 23:26

No reason. No prohibited items, 2 toys and one pair of trainers. This is the message they sent me: We wanted to let you know that your eBay account has been permanently suspended because of activity that we believe was putting the eBay community at risk.

My only activity was to print a label for the last sale (which l paid for and have receipt for from PayPal) yesterday.

i asked for the exact reason and they refuse to give it as it would put community at risk.

when l googled this all other suspended users get the same emails from eBay.

That all sounds rather odd.

How on earth did you post items which have arrived in time for the buyers to leave feedback, without the funds being in your account? Perhaps it's your set-up but I'd be hard-pushed to post something first-class and for it to arrive before Ebay had paid the funds into my account.

What do you mean by copy and paste messages? How have you contacted customer services? I've only ever contacted them via phone or online chat. Certainly not by email.

It sounds more likely that you've responded to a spam email. Or are being less than truthful about what's happened.

CharlotteMakepeace · 19/01/2024 23:35

Can you write the email address it came from so we can see if it's legit?

FYEbay · 19/01/2024 23:37

I sold 3 items last week, hence the feedback. The last one (aka my last ebay activity) was posted yesterday, printed label in the morning.

I could see funds on my eBay account but they were not transferred to my bank account. Now these funds are held by eBay.

Customer service has a set of ready to use messages as the responses. That’s all l am being sent. My case was not reviewed. I emailed customer service (this was the only option on their help page) and received an instant response which made absolutely no sense.

i have done nothing l am aware of that would have violated rules. They refuse to give me a reason. I have never sold anything on eBay before (and quite frankly will never use it again).

Did you log into your account and find the 'suspended account' in your messages? Or did it come as an email?

FYEbay · 19/01/2024 23:38

It is legit as it appeared on my eBay inbox as well. The only place l can still access there.

VioletPickles · 19/01/2024 23:39

Seems weird. Scam email?

TheCompactPussycat · 19/01/2024 23:39

Forget what I said above. It sounds like it might be legit.

Have you provided your bank account details to Ebay and, if so, was it the right type of account for receiving payments? You can't use a savings account for instance. That might explain why they've suspended your account and you haven't received your payout.

FYEbay · 19/01/2024 23:43

Yes. Right account. The only thing l can think of is they sent me the micropayments for approval yesterday. I was busy at work and haven’t had a chance to review them till tonight. I verified them, after account suspension, for an email confirming all has been successful but the account still permanently suspended and all customer service contact was after that.
i was not due any payment to eBay btw.

I reckon your bank account wasn't set up properly. Ebay funds arrive in my account the day after the item has been sold. It would be impossible for the item to arrive and feedback left before I received the funds. That's why you haven't had your payout.

Isn't that a Paypal thing?

Poppyseed14 · 19/01/2024 23:46

It could even be connected to your IP address and not to do with you yourself OP. If a previous ebay user at your IP address was banned ebay will just think it's them trying to open a new account. I'm not sure you will resolve it tbh. There are eBay forums on Facebook etc that might be better placed to answer your question. Sorry this has happened. Also I've read in the forums if you ring first thing in the morning to ebay customer service you tend to get through to the Dublin call centre and they are generally a bit more helpful. I don't know how true that is but you might want to give it a go. Good luck.

FYEbay · 19/01/2024 23:48

Possibly, the thing is they permanently blocked me before l had a chance to verify account. Is there any hope l will get money back?
Actually l just re-read micropayments email they send me yesterday, and it says it will take 3-5 days for these to show on my account. They suspended me today. None of it makes any sense.

OP posts:
FYEbay · 19/01/2024 23:49

Nope, it was my bank account. I used PayPal to pay for postage labels only.

OP posts:
FYEbay · 19/01/2024 23:51

@Poppyseed14 thank you l will check Facebook forums and try to get through to someone on the phone In the morning.

OP posts:
Poppyseed14 · 19/01/2024 23:58

Good luck with it all OP. How much money are you expecting to receive from them? The principle of it is bad enough plus you've paid for postage. But is it a loss you can swallow or is it a lot? So annoying 😔

Poppyseed14 · 20/01/2024 00:01

Also just to add if it was just an issue with your bank details I can't see that being a permanent suspension. They would just ask you to confirm the details. There is definitely something more going on here. But I do know from the forums it's hard to get an account back once they close it down I'm afraid to say.

FYEbay · 20/01/2024 00:02

It is not £100s, it’s the principle of it and the fact they can just do it and refuse to give any reason. I have done all they asked me to to set up account, multiple verifications, PayPal set up. I posted all items within 24h of purchase.

I feel like an absolute mug 😢

OP posts:
Poppyseed14 · 20/01/2024 00:11

I agree totally that it's the principle but I'm glad too that it's not £100's. Such an injustice. There are ebay forums as well run by ebay users. You aren't anonymous on there in so far as they are linked to your eBay account. But you might find advice on there even if you don't want to post your own question. I've definitely read about this sort of shit happening before. Let me see if I can find you a link to the forums I mean as I've not been on them in a while. Bear with me....

RogueFemale · 20/01/2024 00:17

Phone ebay. I've been buying and selling on ebay for 20 years rarely any issue, and the last time there was one I phoned up and spoke to a really helpful guy in Glasgow who sorted it immediately.

Poppyseed14 · 20/01/2024 00:17

I can bet you will find lots of posts relating to the same issue on these boards OP XX
