Fucking eBay how to resolve

FYEbay · 19/01/2024 23:11

I opened an eBay account for the first time couple of weeks ago to sell a few bits (low value items). I posted them on the day of the sale, all feedback so far has been positive.

Today out of the blue l get email that my account has been permanently suspended, my funds are blocked, no actual reason given. Customer service (joke), sends me a copy and paste of messages that other suspended users posted on X/ Reddit and eBay pages.

i am now out of the pocket for postage fees, have no goods and no money. I am so fucking angry.

does anyone know where to escalate this? Can I report them to the trading standards? I did not violate any of their so called rules 🤬😡

P.S. don't bother asking for help on the ebay user forums, they are a snarky bunch.

lemmein · 20/01/2024 00:20

Etsy does this with new seller accounts, I haven't heard of eBay doing it before though but I've been with them for years so wouldn't notice anyway. With Etsy they normally do it to do background checks then reinstate the account (usually with a reserve applied!)

Try asking on eBay seller groups on Facebook.

MumDaisy1980 · 20/01/2024 00:26

Could your acct been hacked?

Anneta · 20/01/2024 00:29

I’ve sold items on eBay for many years. Any problems, you can request a telephone call and they ring you back within minutes. I’ve never had any payments withheld. Also I get paid the next morning and always before the buyer receive the item and leaves feedback. Maybe they hold the money longer with a new seller or has one of your buyers reported a problem with the sale? Then they would freeze the payment until any dispute is resolved.

FreyafromLondon · 20/01/2024 01:24

I had this happen to me but on Etsy. I wasn't even a seller. I was a buyer and left a great review. As soon as I left my review I was permanently suspended. I couldn't even get back in to contact Etsy because it obviously wasn't recognising my email or password. I have no idea what happened. The only thing I could think of was I maybe got hacked.
I hope you sort it OP it's so frustrating when you don't get an answer as to why

Louise303 · 20/01/2024 02:48

Could it be that something flagged up as being suspected as counterfeit I had this with some items. It was not ebay or an individual that highlighted it but the company that made the goods. It was the make up brand Farsali that contacted ebay saying they thought my listings were fake. At the time I was selling a lot of big name brands like Stila, estee Lauder, ysl etc. I never had a problem with any other brand only this company.

bombardelli · 20/01/2024 04:28

Customer service has a set of ready to use messages as the responses. That’s all l am being sent. My case was not reviewed. I emailed customer service (this was the only option on their help page) and received an instant response which made absolutely no sense.

i have done nothing l am aware of that would have violated rules. They refuse to give me a reason. I have never sold anything on eBay before (and quite frankly will never use it again).

Do you mean the Chat function? You will keep getting instant responses that make no sense because it’s a bot. You need to persevere and keep on them until they refer you to a human / agent. I just keep writing ‘complaint’ over and over again until the bot gets sick of me and puts me through to an agent.

The agents are very helpful and should resolve this very easily.

I’ve also been buying and selling on eBay for 20 years with no issues, except once my account was hacked (my password was old and very easy to guess) and I had to recover my account and since then I’ve enabled multi factor authentication.

I am not snarky. Neither are most of the helpful posters on Ebay Community. Maybe it is just you?

I agree totally that it's the principle but I'm glad too that it's not £100's. Such an injustice. There are ebay forums as well run by ebay users. You aren't anonymous on there in so far as they are linked to your eBay account. But you might find advice on there even if you don't want to post your own question. I've definitely read about this sort of shit happening before. Let me see if I can find you a link to the forums I mean as I've not been on them in a while. Bear with me....

Most people on the Help forums use a different ID to their selling ID in order to remain anonymous and avoid auction wrecking by disgruntled buyers/competitors.

If you can set up another ID for posting/buying I would do that. Unless you want people to know your selling one.

WoodsTreesWhere · 20/01/2024 06:14

No help I’m afraid but I had a similar thing happen to me about 15 years ago.

The most frustrating thing when they send you the “community at risk” blurb is that then they won’t tell you anything at all ever again as apparently anything they say will “put the community at risk”

Phoning them seems like the only hope. I agree it’s completely out of order.

Ohdojustfuckoff · 20/01/2024 06:28

Ebay can be terrible to it's sellers. I contacted ebay because I purchased an item worth a lot of money, the seller only gave me part of the item I purchased.
They were all for getting full refund off the seller and closing down their account.
I said, the piece I'm missing is only £100ish (still have an item that's worth several hundred pounds plus) what I'd really be seeking is a partial refund or them to send the rest of the item as described.

No, we can just refund you the whole amount... I didn't want the whole amount, that would be unfair to the seller who has parted with (most!) Of a very expensive item....

I was told that the option was literally accept that or nothing. Sure, if I was a scummy arsehole, that outcome would've been right up my street, but the seller would have been out of pocket their item and the money I'd paid.

Long story short, ill buy from ebay, but won't ever sell on there because the way they treat their sellers is actually terrible.

stringbean · 20/01/2024 06:41

Sounds like your account has been hacked. I had similar with Amazon - jumped through hoops to get account up and running as they suddenly wouldn't allow me to buy anything, only to have it closed down again at the first transaction. On phoning them they said it was connected with my email address - but couldn't specify what - and basically I can't open another Amazon account with it. So I've never bought anything from them since (could do with another email address, I suppose, but never have done). You should be able
to access your funds via PayPal?

Oh FFS, I was just giving gentle advice to OP. No violent attack on RestingCatsArseFace, but, I've been on ebay for 20 years and they are notoriously fucking snarky in the forums.

husbandcallsmepickle · 21/01/2024 02:18

When I've had issues with eBay in the past, I've managed to speak to someone in customer service who has sorted it out. Do they still have the option to request a call?

RogueFemale · 21/01/2024 02:27

Yes, @husbandcallsmepickle you can still speak on the phone with ebay customer servces.

I have also been on EBay for around that time, maybe longer, always found them willing to help with anything I hadn't come across before. I was also willing to help with stuff I knew about.

It is also useful to read the posts on there as there is often a solution already posted.

This is my experience, not arguing with your gentle advice, I just don't find the same thing.

Colinski · 01/11/2024 00:15

Hey, Thank you for posting your experience on here. "FYEbay" Try to avoid swearing in here though. I totally get you though. I have been assisting many friends with ebay accounts and assisting them when they are stuck, including how to complain successfully . I have had many of these accounts over 20 years or about since they where established. (I cant quite remember how long ago)
All of a sudden over a couple of days they suspended all of the accounts i was supervising. Both seller and buyer accounts. 76 in all with my friends credentials. There is actually no limitation on how many accounts you may open as long as you are not competing against yourself. Suspension, no valid ecuses given. None of us did anything wrong. I opened a new account just to buy items, i recieved a fake SD card, I set up a returns claim and straight away i was again suspended. "FYEbay" You havent done anything wrong. If you have screwed up with setting up account details then you would have been informed, not suspended. I called up and accused ebay of being hacked but got no reply. It is a possibility. all the accounts where Supposed to be shut down by all of us but low and behold ebay have not closed any accounts on our requests. They are acting illegally. "FYEbay" I called my bank Lloyds and the guy was very helpful. I got my money back after a 10 minute discussion. My bank was very aware of this matter regarding ebay. He asked the right questions i expected. When your ebay account is suspended, you cant do anything with your account other than look. You can't message buyers or sellers, you can't cancel, claim or return any item. You are blocked out FINAL. Anyway gather your sale details, dates, ebay Numbers and Item details before calling your bank (It will save you a lot of time)
The route i went was Fraud department with my bank (The Memory Card was Fake and tampered with ) I was passed on to claims and filed a CHARGE BACK towards ebay (Not the customer) Your customer has probably nothing to do with it and may even reach out to you if you left a return lable of some sort.
I go my refund within 10 minutes from the bank. They usually win but hold on to the refund. just incase the CHARGE BACK is contested or reversed. You will still win but you need to correspond to your bank etc. You have plenty of time to file a claim, however i am not sure how long and the actual ammount does not matter if you are out of pocket for a penny or thousands however there is a top limit.

Colinski · 01/11/2024 00:17

By the way if you are suspended you can't access the ebay forums on ebay and even when i could access them the replies i got where a joke and heavily modified by ebay.. Its why i came to this group. I love this group.

Colinski · 01/11/2024 00:23

"Ohdojustfuckoff" Please read my previous message.
You probably have the right to do a CHARGE BACK of ebay Debit or Credit card. If eligible you will get your money back and ebay will have to pay charges to the bank.

No it won't be that. ebay actually approves fakes and counterfeits.
a few times thay insisted that i return dangerous items and counterfeits or i won't get refunded. I stressed to them that they are actually asking me to break the law buy returning these but they insisted i send dangerous items and fakes in the post possibly risking lives. i sent the items back as safe as i could and have several witnesses packing and posting them. I did get my refunds but that is not the right way to go about things. I could have gone to prison for this. I was asked what was in the package at the post office and i declared the component parts (witnessed too) If i declared that it was a dangerous battery that could blow up in transit.... How would that unfold. I did report ebay to the Police on that occation. Looking at all the advertising ebay are doing at the moment for a service that was free for years is suspicious. I think their business is not in a good state. Homebase did the same tactic and soon went bust. Companies only heavily advertise when the are developing other projects or loosing money. I think millions of accounts have been suspended yet they do not delete account deletion requests.. Keeping the business BLOATED ???

On a very rare occation have i had a live chat with an ebay Customer support agent. replies are usually pre edited scripts or BOT's used by poorly or NON speaking english support.
once i had to speak Tagalog to get a proper response. I don't speak Tagalog but i am very good with tripple cross referencing.

goingdownfighting · 01/11/2024 00:46

Ok so reasons you may have been suspended can also be:

That you've logged on using an Ip address that they have banned or blocked or is already trading. I logged on at my husband's work and got banned.

Could someone have thought the trainers were counterfeit? They are very hot on this.

My friend got banned because they didn't like her supplier. EBay are very picky.

Colinski · 01/11/2024 00:52

Just a sneeky question... No Not sneeky....
May i ask how many people with accounts Buyers or And Sellers accounts have been suspended with under 5000 feedback points (Positive or Negatives included) had their accounts suspended ? A friend of mine had 8000 feedback points and was not suspended. I think they are targeting low level feedback accounts. When they started to making ebay look like a cheap chinese toy feedback was destroyed. there was no insentive at all to leave any as no one left any back. My final opinion on ebay... Its not worth shoping or selling on that platform anymore. Its bloated full of aliexpress / alibaby fakes and knockoffs.
I actually trust aliexpress over ebay however they are expencive now as they sneek in tax, fees and postage. There are plenty of better platforms out there that deseve our custom. let walk away with out fingertips.
I am quite wealthy but i do not like cheats or ripoffs.
