Frozen pizzas are dire these days

Supermarket frozen pizzas have shrunk in size. There's bugger all cheese on them and bugger all tomatoe sauce.

Aibu.. things didn't used to be like this, I'm sure .. maybe I'm going stir crazy.

And I think they ain't far off the price of a takeaway pizza from a pizza shop .

A 15" margarita in our local high St is £8.90 , its about £4 for a 12" chicagos town pizza and then you got to cook it.

BakedBeansforabrain · 16/01/2024 22:51

Bought some from Iceland they were terrible not much tomato sauce or cheese and they were very dry

CranfordScones · 16/01/2024 22:52

It's not that much work to make your own - either use the premade dough or the packet mix for the base. Then sauce and toppings of your choice.

Itssodarkinhere · 16/01/2024 22:54

If you're looking for quick pizza, the aldi mini pizzas at 65p are very good and, I think freezeable. You do need to top up the cheese but at 65p and enough for one for lunch they're excellent value.

snoopyfanaccountant · 16/01/2024 22:58

I haven't bought one in years. I make my own using an Eat Well For Less recipe.

Noseyoldcow · 16/01/2024 23:01

Crosta and Mollica frozen pizzas are quite nice, but I prefer to buy fresh or make my own. We've found the Lidl, Aldi and Waitrose ones to be ok.
I've noticed though that, apart from shrinkflation, supermarket ready meals seem to have been cheapened down. As in they cost the same but the quality has gone down. Especially M&S.

2chocolateoranges · 16/01/2024 23:03

Tescos own stone baked frozen pizzas are amazing. We love the vegetarian one and also the chicken and sweet chilli one, best pizzas we have tasted in a long time.

HashBrownandBeans · 16/01/2024 23:04

We buy the fresh ones for about 70p and add toppings. They’re lovely.

FourLeggedBuckers · 16/01/2024 23:06

Frozen pizzas have always been the work of the devil.

Fortunately they’re easy enough to make, or at least buy unfrozen ones.

Minecraftminecraft · 16/01/2024 23:07

Less cheese on them certainly lately.

Where can you get the premade dough?

AndrewGarfieldsLaptop · 16/01/2024 23:29

The M&S ones are great. I add extra cheese and some herbs, and everyone's happy.

AgathaX · 16/01/2024 23:33

They never have herbs on these days. We add cheese, chives, dried herbs.

Gingerkittykat · 16/01/2024 23:33

I've just checked Asda and they do own brand and Pizza Express dough in the fridge. I've used the Asda own brand one before and it's pretty good.

Thebookdragon · 16/01/2024 23:38

Bulk make your own and then freeze

The issue with this is that you either need to have access to a big enough shop, or be able to afford to get shops delivered. I live alone, my nearest big shop is a half hour walk away and I don't spend enough on shopping to justify ordering my shopping.

Frozen pizzas, however, are in every Tesco extra or small Sainsbury's I've ever been in (of which there are 4 in within a 10 min walk).

I think people sometimes forget that access to a big supermarket and all that comes with it isn't feasible for everyone! Making a pizza would require a whole lot of effort

Raisinypeanut · 16/01/2024 23:39

Lidl and Aldi ones are better than most

LexRider · 16/01/2024 23:42

YANBU.

The supermarkets think we’re dim.

WannaBeABillionnaire · 16/01/2024 23:42

Crostica & Mollica do a base that just comes with tomato sauce and you add your own cheese etc. It’s less than £2.50 and really delicious. We always have various cheese, ham, salami, veg etc that we chuck on.

lenalemonade · 16/01/2024 23:43

You can get frozen pre made dough in M and S and I think Morrisons do it sometimes .

gaz4stace · 16/01/2024 23:47

I know what you mean op, I bought some Goodfellas ones the other week and the base had such little structural.integrity it sunk through the oven bars and disintegrated. I cobbled it together but the topping was paltry as well - at least a third of the pizza was barren!

LOVE that Tesco stone baked veggie one! Love how the veg is chopped up tiny, I always add some jalapeños to it. Such good value!

They also fit in the airfyer.....

Lidl do a roll of pizza dough. My ds16 would highly recommend it. 96p I think

Gremlinsatsupper · 16/01/2024 23:53

I think they are vile now. More of a punishment than a treat. Pizza dough made with flour and yoghurt is amazing and quick.

justasking111 · 16/01/2024 23:56

The Co-op ones in the chiller are nice. Tesco not bad. We always augment frozen ones, or buy the dough
