Frozen pizzas are dire these days

Supermarket frozen pizzas have shrunk in size. There's bugger all cheese on them and bugger all tomatoe sauce.

Aibu.. things didn't used to be like this, I'm sure .. maybe I'm going stir crazy.

Yanbu but it's not just pizza. Food manufacturers are using poorer quality ingredients and charging us more money. Eg mature cheddar - half the time that stuff isn't mature and it's barely fucking cheddar, just strange oily wax with cheese flavour stirred into it. And for the pp recommending that Crosta kit - £2.50 for a ball of dough and some tomato relish is not a pizza, it is a pisstake. It's not even shrinkflation any more - I mean yes packets are smaller but also food is poor quality. It is shitflation.

Abso-fucking-lutely. The quality of supermarket food is in the toilet and heading for the sewer. Even the flour and butter aren't up to par. Pre-grated "cheese" that is basically suet coated in potato starch. It's scary.

WinterSnowFox · 17/01/2024 00:18

frozen Pizza has always been vile

Gowlett · 17/01/2024 00:23

Mlano (Pizza Express) used to be the best value “fresh” pizza. Not anymore. They’re like cardboard now…

M&S had the best frozen one, decent price. Gone now, replaced with “Woodfire” whatnot, triple the cost.

CroccyWoccy · 17/01/2024 00:24

Crosta and Mollica or Lidl.

I love making homemade pizza dough but I absolutely reject the “it’s barely any effort” claims. Frozen pizza is what you need for a quick emergency tea, not the days when I have time to start kneading dough.:

WeveGotThis · 17/01/2024 00:46

I absolutely love the Asda stuffed crust ones. I don't think Goodfellas or Dr Oetker have got any worse since I was a teen. I don't like the Sainsbury's ones. They're all v expensive now but that's true of literally all food!

This is definitely true. I've had ice-cream that I'm sure had very little cow's milk in it, it tastes of coconut and cheap starch.

PeterWetherspoons · 17/01/2024 00:51

Is that fact?

I stopped making cheese on toast a few years ago because it goes all greasy and oily on top

Fish pies are getting more and more like mash with a bit of fish under it.

My Sainsbury's local, and my local Co-op both feature as their only special British (non-blue) cheese:- Wensleydale cheese with cranberries in - urgh! Why? A decent Double Gloucester instead of their generic orange stuff would surely sell better? I'd buy it, for one!

Sorry, slight fish pie/cheese derail there!

Re pizza: I used to make my own very successfully with scone dough, which I can make in a matter of minutes with a food processor, even a small one.

Manyandyoucanwalkover · 17/01/2024 01:17

The thick crust pepperoni one from Lidl is actually my favourite.

OnlyTheBravest · 17/01/2024 01:20

I have gone back to cooking far more from scratch and freezing extras as the quality of pre-made foods/ready meals is definitely declining.
From grated cheese that does not melt, pizzas that are more dough than topping and lack of meat in ready meals replaced with more fake cheese.

donteatthedaisies0 · 17/01/2024 02:50

We prefer to make our own pizza nowadays . Get the bases , sauce and cheese . The toppings we do at home tend to be simple veggie and ham type toppings but we like it and the price for four people's pizza works out ok and they're all fresh oh and we get plenty cheese on them .

Overtheatlantic · 17/01/2024 03:26

Dr Oetker ones are great. We always add a bit more cheese but otherwise they taste great.

letitialane · 17/01/2024 03:37

Aldi's new stone baked sourdough pizzas are really nice

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 17/01/2024 04:19

Frozen Pizza has always been horrible. It was a comparative absence and availability of decent fresh pizza that once fooled us into thinking otherwise.

the80sweregreat · 17/01/2024 06:21

Chicago town ones are ok , but generally frozen pizzas are a let down I think

Futb0l · 17/01/2024 07:06

We just make our own now. Much nicer.

WaitingfortheTardis · 17/01/2024 07:14

Dd likes my cheat 'pizza' as she prefers a thin base so I just use a wrap for the base. It isn't really pizza, but it does actually taste pretty good.

Every so often Waitrose has them on offer, so I stock up. DH prefers plain food and their mozzarella is the only pizza he likes.

Redwineandcake · 17/01/2024 07:31

Buy the fresh ones in the fridge section at the supermarket and freeze them at home.

Luhou · 17/01/2024 07:32

Sainsburys 4 cheese stuffed crust takeaway is the best. Think it's about £2.75

WhatNoRaisins · 17/01/2024 07:35

I know what you mean. Bought a cheese feast a while back and I'm looking at it and thinking, it's just a bloody Margherita.

Tescos own stone baked frozen pizzas are amazing. We love the vegetarian one and also the chicken and sweet chilli one, best pizzas we have tasted in a long time.

We always get these, they're so nice! Especially the chicken chilli one. I want pizza for dinner now!

Moreorlessmentallystable · 17/01/2024 19:31

Yes. Also own brand Morrisons and Alfie's have gone from 69p to £1 in 2 years...and like you said less cheese, and less sauce, we used to stock them for a quick dinner, and just make a quick salad, not anymore, we barely buy them..
