Newborn will sleep in moses basket during the day but won't on a night.

Only posting here so it gets responses. She'll happily sleep in it during the day but refuses on a night. I had no issues with my son with this. So I have to cosleep. I do love the extra cuddles. Think she does too. Soon as shes in my arms goes to sleep. As she's my last going to make the most of it but just wondering if anyone else went through this and did it pass?

I'm still going through it and she's 6 months lol it's completely normal, baby feels safest with you ❤️I find once they become more mobile crawling/walking sleep improves.

She sleeps really well when we co sleep. So I don't mind too much. I loves the cuddles so much 💗

It sounds like it's not the moses basket, then. So is it something else in the environment - darkness, background noise, temperature etc.?

blackpanth · 11/01/2024 11:22

@K37529 just going to keep trying to put her in it on a night. I don't think it helps its cold on a night. So might warm the mattress before she goes in to see if that helps. Plus she doesn't know what night or day is yet so that won't be helping. She sleeps between 3 and 6 hours so definitely getting sleep thank fully.

I think its the temperature so thinking of warming the mattress first see if that helps

That's babies for you. My first was the same. Cosleep and then sort it out later is my advice. I was able to put him down for the evening in the Moses by 4 months and then we worked up to the cot.

SouthLondonMum22 · 11/01/2024 11:26

Co-sleeping wasn't an option for us so we just kept on putting him in his basket and he would settle eventually. It was tough but worth it when he got used to it.

I'm definitely going to keep trying. Otherwise she'll get too used to being in my arms which I know is normal and can understand why she prefers it but definitely going to keep at it till she gets used to it.

Both mine were the same. Daytime naps in the Moses basket, but flatly refused to sleep in it at night.

I ended up co-sleeping with DS1 for about 3 years and DS2 about 3.5 years. Generally once they were about 2 they’d go to sleep in their own beds and come into my room in the middle of the night.

I worried about it at the time but I wish I hadn’t wasted energy worrying. It really wasn’t a problem. They’re 18 and 14 now and mostly ignore me 24-7!!

Bonbontutu · 11/01/2024 12:11

I had the same issue. Coslept for the first 6 weeks, but have since discovered that I can get her to sleep in Moses basket if she is swaddled with a 2.5 tog sleep suit underneath (one that looks like a baby grow).

She insists on having contact naps in the day though which makes doing stuff difficult.. so I think it's her that's calling the shots tbh.

soupandcrackers · 11/01/2024 12:13

Same here. Both of my newborn babies would happily sleep in the Moses basket in the day, but as soon as it got to 11pm they would refuuuuuse.

Haha that's about right. I'm just going to keep trying but if she ends up in my bed I don't mind.

I have got a sleep sack type of thing but have to wait till she's 18 pounds for it. I have a feeling it'll help. Just going to keep trying to put her in it.

I don't need comments like this. I'm doing what's best.

I'm not going to leave her to cry in the moses basket. I'm doing all I can

@Rnaom it's not that she doesn't sleep its that she doesn't want to sleep in the moses basket on a night

What about a next to me. Shed still be close to you without any worry that comes with co sleeping. Though if you're happy to do it, crack on. Mine detested the moses basket from the start so the next to me was a godsend

I might have to get one. Although will keep trying the moses basket for now. No issues during the day. Maybe when she knows day and night might help.

Don't people use cots now?
I don't usually comment on baby threads as mine are grown up and I'm well aware that what we did 20 years ago is not done now but this puzzles me?
Mine were only in a Moses basket for a week or so then moved into a proper cot next to my bed.
