To want a meme about why a mum's house is always messy

Posting here for traffic.
I know it's petty but I need to find this meme or insta post that I saw once. It's essentially saying that if you're coming home to a messy house it's because your wife has been busy looking after kids all day.

My husband has been making digs at me that he comes home and the living room / play space is untidy with toys everywhere etc. He's calling me messy but the truth is, I'm looking after his (and mine) kids whilst also trying to cook dinner, sometimes trying to just pee in peace etc.

You really shouldn't need a meme for your husband to understand that your house will not be like a show home when you have kids.

Tell him he's being an arse.

Coffeespill · 06/01/2024 10:11

Can you not just tell him or draw a picture?

Falkenburg · 06/01/2024 10:12

Or get your kids go only play with one thing at a time and put it away before they take out another toy? 🤷🏼‍♀️

pettywife · 06/01/2024 10:12

We jokingly communicate throughout the day by sending each other memes and it would be less confrontational than going "WHY ARE YOU LIKE THIS? I HAVE ENOUGH ON MY PLATE JUGGLING KIDS AND HOUSE"

Try explaining that to a 1 and 3 yo

Could be Chelsea Carr - her website doesn’t seem to exist anymore but if you google her there’s lots similar.

Go back to work and insist that all childcare responsibilities (drop off, pick up, etc), all cooking and all household chores are shared 50/50.

Or tell him that if he doesn’t like the state of the house, he’s welcome to do something about it.

Not a meme, but look at this...

Honestly your upper case line is way better than meme. Send him that.

Thing is, this is a whole separate topic but I'm a SAHM who contributes 50/50 to the household financially (due to a large inheritance I bought the house where we live, I buy all the kids' clothes because I want them to be dressed in high end brands, I pay for a housekeeper to clean the house 4 days a week but she leaves at 2pm having done actual cleaning but of course kids will still make a mess after 2pm, not dirt, just toys everywhere, maybe shoes out of the cupboard etc). He never has to clean a bathroom or wash the kids' clothes (irons own shirts though), dinner is cooked for him every day.

Oh and he'll also tidy dishes after dinner whilst I put the kids to bed

Kids in 'high-end brands' is tacky af

"They're your kids too - there's absolutely no reason whatsoever why you should be exempt from putting their toys away. You're at work? I'm working to keep OUR children happy, healthy and safe."

Tidying dishes is easy. Why can't he put them to bed. Dh gets home and puts the kids to bed. I rather do the tidying, I put on a YouTube video and watch while I tidy. To me that's way more enjoyable than doing bedtime.

Spinet · 06/01/2024 10:38

Just communicate clearly with words. It may be less peaceful but it's a better bet for the longevity of your relationship (if you want a long relationship with someone who can't clean a toilet).

Then don't put your own kids in them - not a problem!

Swap places. You've been with the kids all day. Why does their dad not want to spend time with them?
On the mess, I tidy toys once a day when kids are in bed. No point whatsoever in wasting your time and energy over and over during the day.

pettywife · 06/01/2024 10:49

@ChristmasSugarplumFairy they absolutely refuse dad putting them to bed. Like, scream MUMMMMMYYYYYYYY for hours whereas with me bedtime is 15-30 mins max

There is something so utterly 1950s about this. Does he want his slippers warming too. A cocktail and back rub when he comes home.

if he wants a tidy house he can do so himself. What are you, the maid? Why even look for a meme. Tell him to get his finger out and tidy.

His reasoning is that I shouldn't sit there watching kids make a mess. Tidy up after they've moved onto the next toy. If they've emptied their shoe cupboard I should put things back when they move on etc

OP posts:
pettywife · 06/01/2024 10:52

But if they've finished emptying their shoe cupboard perhaps they're trying to play with their other toys and I'd rather supervise than leave them alone
