I binged all of this in one go, no spoilers (although the current state of play is easily findable...)

AIBU to be absolutely aghast that this happened, and happened for so long.
Absolutely dystopian!

I watched it too, and I have heard the occasional article about it on the news over the years. Disgraceful behaviour from the Post Office.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 02/01/2024 18:22

There was a programme on BBC I think a while ago about it. Had not idea before then how bad it was.

NextPrimeMinister · 02/01/2024 18:24

It's horrible isn't it. I know of the story so can't bring myself to watch it. They must have felt so powerless.

HottestEverRecordedTemperature · 02/01/2024 18:24

BBC sounds did a factual expose radio series. It was mind blowing.

I am so glad that there is the ITV series out now and the whole issue is getting wider attention.

And kudos to Private Eye for doggedly pursuing this case for a good decade.

Tomselleckhaskindeyes · 02/01/2024 18:25

There is a whole podcast about it on BBC sounds. If you were aghast after the programme listen to the podcast.

NearlyMonday · 02/01/2024 18:25

I was horrified the Windrush situation could ever happen, and equally horrified a national institution like The Post Office could behave so appallingly

soupfiend · 02/01/2024 18:26

I know the gist of the story and cant bring myself to watch this series. Horrific.

tescocreditcard · 02/01/2024 18:26

The whole thing is absolutely horrifying.

A large number of postmasters are asian women.

Funny how this didn't get more media coverage.

I hope those people get FUCKING MILLIONS of pounds in compensation - the ones who went to prison that is.

Allofaflutter · 02/01/2024 18:27

Cps was quick enough to take the poor postmasters to court, why haven’t they moved as quickly to take the big bosses to court?

Dare I say it's because they are white men and not asian women.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 02/01/2024 18:28

There was a BBC podcast series The Great Post Office Trial which I listened to last year. It was shocking (and still is!). I want to watch the TV series too.

Allofaflutter · 02/01/2024 18:30

One is a woman

The two highest executives involved, including the MD at the time, were women...

But a white woman with friends in high places. The itv boss that had been the boss of the post office wasn’t in the tv program coincidence?

Allofaflutter · 02/01/2024 18:31

Adam something?

Tomselleckhaskindeyes · 02/01/2024 18:31

Tbh i think it affected people of all sections of society. The podcast goes further than the programme and discusses that the post office knew about the dodgy system. They knew the repercussions so decided to move on doggedly. All sub post masters don’t have thousands in the bank to fight and didn’t have access to information. It is a scandal!

NearlyHeadlessNick · 02/01/2024 18:31

It's awful. If ever there was a case of us v them, this is it. Their conduct was deplorable. I'm a lawyer and was astounded at some of the things that came out of the conduct of the mitigate. The podcast on BBC sounds is a good listen.

While everything is clearly a feminist issue on MN - I'm pretty sure that Paula Vennals was a woman.

Davros · 02/01/2024 18:33

I knew about it from Private Eye, god bless 'em

Allofaflutter · 02/01/2024 18:33

I feel it should be a huge deal but hasn’t been.

Allofaflutter · 02/01/2024 18:34

Hopefully this itv program will reach people and the attention will cause the cps to do something.

HottestEverRecordedTemperature · 02/01/2024 18:44
