What was the toe sucking scandal?

I am in my mid 20's so was not alive during the 90's when The Duchess of York was apparently seen as a disgrace by the public and media. Can someone who remembers that period tell me about the toe sucking scandal and whether the royal family banishing her for many years was seen as an appropriate response or if the tabloids over sensationalised her antics at the time?

Yes was a scandal which she has been paying for ever since.

I suspect it depends on the gender of the person having the affair, and whether they are royal, or a partner of royalty.
Think Charles & Camilla whilst he was married to Diana, Andrew's non-sweaty involvement with young girls which didn't get any press attention at the time, and more recently rumours that William has had an affair - press 'mysteriously' didn't pursue that one.

There was always this not so cloaked opinion in the media that fergie was a fat lump of a lazy stupid woman who wished she was Diana and had no fashion sense.

I was born in 1983 for context so a child or teen at the times she was in the news. I love now that she has this whole.life and persona in America, that her daughter's are socialites with more normality than their royal cousins.

I dunno, maybe it's because I'm a freckly, chunky woman and wasa freckly chunky teenager but I always hated the media coverage of her.

It's referenced in Spiceworld the Movie. When the evil newspaper editor is searching for someone to dish dirt on the Spice Girls, the pap who is chosen "got the Fergie toe-sucking pictures".

It was pretty shocking at the time - obviously this was before the days of social media and being bombarded 24/7 by clickbait - everyone was actually talking about it.

She was shagging around. Most believable story I've heard is that she's a 'Beard' which would explain the fake, slavish devotion. Also, offering access to royal family for cash. Luckily, both kids have jobs that allow them to holiday 360 days a year.

Google and other search engines allow you to remove personal info under data protection malarkey hence, people able to cleanse their history because they know others can't be arsed to go beyond Wiki. There was another US bloke who has been removed from internet. Fergie was going selling access to Royals, going on 'dates' with very suspect euro trash and sheiks; fake or not.
People have also forgotten about Sophie, Countess of Wessex also promising access for cash plus very indiscreet info re senior Royals feelings about the labour Government.

But she wasn't doing it in the local leisure centre swimming pool. She had a reasonable expectation of privacy from photographers.

I listened to a podcast with Fergie who said she actually chose to spend those years in the US. She said it saved her life. She’s now back in the UK living off the public purse so can’t say I feel too sorry for her.

Also no one ever said Camilla wouldn’t be titled. She’s been married to the current King for nearly 20 years. Like many consorts before her, she is using the title she is entitled to use by default.

Anyone who is upset by a random posho’s (who they don’t even know!) affair 30 YEARS after it happened, needs to have a word with themself. Let’s not forget Saint Diana the Wronged had her fair share of married men when married to Charles (one of whom? To this day, has caused speculation about the paternity of one of her sons) then had the nerve to say “There were 3 of us in this marriage”. Yeah and the rest love.

TBF the only ‘public event’ Andrew has attended in the last few years other than the King’s Coronation, were his parents funerals. I think even the angriest of anti-royalists couldn’t deny him a seat at his mother’s funeral.

He didn't just say Tampax, he said he wished he could be Camilla's tampon. I take your point about having his privacy invaded but it was pretty shocking at the time as he and Diana were still married.

I do find it galling that Camilla is queen now. The late queen said she would be known as Queen Consort but Charles ignored that.
