I’ve put out our Christmas Eve sacks with Christmas pj’s, fluffy socks, a new tree ornament and a couple of new games to play and I’ve laid out our Christmas Eve breakfast - crispy cranes, chocolate pancakes and cereal, candy floss and other rubbish!! Now too excited to sleep!! Is anyone else all ready and excited!

I used to be when I was a kid but as an adult, no.

FeliciteFaff · 23/12/2023 23:08

Not as a fully fledged adult. I would be excited for my little ones tho.

purpleme12 · 23/12/2023 23:10

It's harder this year. So mentally exhausted.
No idea if I'll be this mentally exhausted again next year or if it'll be easier to ramp it up

PurpleSproutingSomething · 23/12/2023 23:11

No, I've been in bed since Tuesday, and it was a week of A/L to get stuff done. Which hasn't been.
Going to be a busy one tomorrow if I am well enough.

Nasahoodie · 23/12/2023 23:12

I'm looking forwards to it because my kids are with their dad tonight, I get a lie in and relaxing day to myself.

RampantIvy · 23/12/2023 23:13

What are crispy cranes?

Kidsaregrim · 23/12/2023 23:13

Christmas Eve is the best bit about Christmas! Everyone is excited, panto, lovely gammon! What’s not to love!

TheChosenTwo · 23/12/2023 23:13

No, it’s not an exciting day.
It will be productive but definitely not exciting.

NightisdarkandfullofterrorsGOT · 23/12/2023 23:14

But your day sounds lovely OP.

Merry Christmas Xmas Smile

SantaLovesTheBanter · 23/12/2023 23:18

I'm looking forward to the first day of A/L where I've got nothing to do and can have a relaxing films & pj's day.

But no, I wouldnt say I'm so excited I couldn't sleep. I think I stopped feeling too excited to sleep once I got to about 15 yrs old tbh.

Now I just just get too stressed I can't sleep!

Earhell · 23/12/2023 23:21

I always look forward to the evening on christmas eve. It always feel so special. We are having cheese and cold meats christmas eve after the kids are in bed and it'll be lovely

Alalalalalongalalalalalonglonglilong · 23/12/2023 23:24

I think your post is sweet but no I don't get excited about it, or anything to do with Christmas. I get that some people love it as a season but excited? For what? I dont understand that at all. But my DH is the same as you. I think its a form of nostalgia for him.

TeenLifeMum · 23/12/2023 23:27

I love Christmas Eve excitement. Dc are 12-15 but go with all the magic. I honestly thought last year with all at secondary it would be the start of Christmas being less magical but last year was amazing. Dc love their gifts. They make lists but are not dc who ask for masses of expensive stuff.

we don’t do all the stuff op listed. We get new pjs (but I video called them from the shop to choose from options for dd2&3 - dd1 I can choose for) then I made them try them on as I have slim dc and often have to sew pj bottoms and honestly don’t want that to be a Christmas Eve job.

We’ll do a last minute house tidy and hoover before in laws arrive to stay, take dog for a winter walk and have a drink in the village pub (hot chocolate for dc I expect) then home for a board game, dinner and a film.

Newbornmum · 23/12/2023 23:27

I'm with you OP 😊🎄It's my first baby's first Christmas and I'm so excited I can't sleep! Your breakfast sounds perfect!! Have fun and merry Christmas!

Osheo · 23/12/2023 23:33

I think it’s fine to be excited! It’s a good time of year.

Mummyofbananas · 23/12/2023 23:36

I love Christmas eve, all the madness of the run up is done (even if I have to pop to the shops for some bits and pieces) and I can relax and enjoy with the kids.

Summergarden · 23/12/2023 23:40

That all sounds wonderful OP, bet your DC will love it!

We are off to the cinema tomorrow to see Wish which I’m looking forward to as we very rarely go to the cinema so feels like a treat to us. Might get a Chinese delivered too.

We always watch The Snowman and the Snowdog before bed and read The Night Before Christmas and these traditions induce a joyful sense of nostalgia for me.

Desecratedcoconut · 23/12/2023 23:43

I love Christmas Eve. I like the getting ready and pulling it all together. Laying the table for the next day. Bringing down the presents. Prepping the food. I like the busy vibe of it.

Ohnotyoutoo · 23/12/2023 23:43

I love Christmas Eve! For many different reasons, but it's a big day with lots of wider family things. Very excited!

80sMum · 23/12/2023 23:49

Goodness, I can't remember the last time I was excited about Christmas Eve! I did used to love Christmas as a child - and even as a young adult I looked forward to it, despite the effort involved. It was nice when the children were young, as their excitement would rub off on me.

I rather like the thought that you are excited, OP, it cheers me up and makes me smile. I hope you have a lovely time - and enjoy your very unusual breakfast tomorrow! 😊

Grinchwithlove · 23/12/2023 23:51

Nope im decluttering tomorrow.

SqueezyMcJingles · 23/12/2023 23:52

I'm looking forward to making and tasting the soup. I'm also looking forward to toasted slices of buttered, homemade brioche. We've only bought gifts for the dc and they've only got 3 things each so there are only 6 presents to wrap tomorrow night.

LaviniasBigBloomers · 24/12/2023 00:00

This is a really hard Christmas for me because of bereavement, but normally Christmas Eve is my favourite day of the whole year, from when I was a single adult, to just me and DH, then with little DS, now with adult DS.

It's just that moment when everything is organised, ready, no more running around to do, and we just let the magic in.
