I’ve put out our Christmas Eve sacks with Christmas pj’s, fluffy socks, a new tree ornament and a couple of new games to play and I’ve laid out our Christmas Eve breakfast - crispy cranes, chocolate pancakes and cereal, candy floss and other rubbish!! Now too excited to sleep!! Is anyone else all ready and excited!

edited to add the preparations are for my littlest who still firmly believes!

MummyInTheNecropolis · 24/12/2023 00:18

Yes! I love Christmas Eve, I don’t have any little ones, my DD is 18 now but I still feel the same excitement as I did when I was younger. My DD will be working all day tomorrow so I’ll have a quiet day at home alone, watching Christmas movies, eating Panettone and cheese and crackers for brunch, wrapping DD’s presents. My mum will come over in the evening and when DD gets home we’ll have a nice buffet and start preparing some of the food for Christmas Day while listening to carols. It’s my favourite day of the year.

Thank you - I hope you’re feeling better soon

It’s almost 8:30 am Christmas Eve here …

Very chilled, it’s wonderful.

Food shop was delivered at 6am. I did a big clean of the fridges yesterday, so just had to pop it all away.

Took DD to work. Other DD still in bed with the dog. Cat is beside me. I’ve watered the vegetable garden. Emptied the dishwasher and reloaded a few things from last night. Washing machine is on with a load of towels.
Robot vacuum is doing its thing.
Had a big clean of kitchen and dining area yesterday, just need to give bathroom a big clean later.
Spa pool is ready!

Looking forward to the rest of the day!

No - I’m ok about Xmas eve but no young children here and it’s all about the food and the food prep for Xmas day

saltinesandcoffeecups · 24/12/2023 00:47

This is the first time I’ve felt Christmasy this year. It’s about 7pm I’ve had chicken soup…yes I have the grunge… Fire in the fireplace, glass of wine, nice traditional classical Christmas movie, and sleepy cats. Whatever happens tomorrow happens and I’ll enjoy.

it’s been a shit couple of weeks leading up to tonight, but I’m warm, happy, and content. Can’t ask for more!

XenaTheWarriorPrincess · 24/12/2023 00:50

I LOVE Christmas, always have. But, my dad and brother aren't really into it so since my mum (who also loved Christmas) died in 2019 and with the lockdowns, it's been a bit flat.

I actually went to my DP parent's last couple of Christmases, and will be this year too, but it's still not the same as they're not MY family. I just feel like a guest.

BUT I am currently 22 weeks pregnant and I am SO excited for all my christmasas after this one. I get to make traditions and watch my daughter joyfully await Santa's arrival and do stockings and actually put a tree up again (don't usually bother due to mischief cats).

So basically, I'll be just as excited for Christmas eve and the whole Christmas experience in a year or two, so I say enjoy every last minute of it the kids won't be kids forever.

girlfriend44 · 24/12/2023 00:53

No. More excited the night before I go on holiday abroad.

Babla · 24/12/2023 00:56

YABU go to bed

wineosaurus4 · 24/12/2023 01:02

@Babla Bah humbug!!

Thatfeatherthere · 24/12/2023 01:05

I used to absolutely love Christmas. I like it less and less each year now. The build up is too long, the amount spent on presents is mad, all the new 'traditions' which are really just a marketing ploy, it's lost its joy for me. I'm sad about that, but there's a peak 'Christmas is brilliant' time in your life, once that's gone, it's just going through the motions.

brawnthesheep · 24/12/2023 01:10

I love Christmas Eve but don’t actually get excited for it the night before.

brawnthesheep · 24/12/2023 01:12

We will have a nice breakfast, bake some cookies for Santa, go for a walk & get any last minutes bits. Pop around to see fanijy & have party food. Movie with dc & leave out cookie & hang stockings.

Carouselfish · 24/12/2023 01:13

Sort of...going to be doing lots of baking with the kids, might have a friend over. And then there's the panic wrapping (app says I still have 29 to wrap?!?!? How the eff?) and the panic tidying. So....half and half!
We don't have special outfits or breakfasts or anything.

Carouselfish · 24/12/2023 01:15

@XenaTheWarriorPrincess Congratulations! You could call her Gabrielle?

HerRoyalNotness · 24/12/2023 01:23

Not really. The 3 Dc don’t want to do anything together. Offered a movie trip today, no one was interested. Older two aren’t interested in matching pjs anymore. It’s all a bit flat and rubbish and like any other weekend around here. Watching Die Hard now but just H at the other end of the sofa, dog with her butt snuggled against me, dC1 upstairs, DC2 at dining table and DC3 on the next seat watching their own thing. Bah humbug

tbh I think everyone is flat as it’s a boring place we live and last Xmas we did something exciting that everyone loved so we’re feeling a bit bleurgh

XenaTheWarriorPrincess · 24/12/2023 01:32

Haha thanks @Carouselfish and thanks for the suggestion! We've already a name picked out though, Eleanor :)

AffIt · 24/12/2023 01:39

I love Christmas Eve and I'm in my 40s and don't have any kids!

It's always been my favourite part of the holiday season and no matter how old I get, I hope that never changes.

A very happy Christmas Eve to you, OP.

Hadjab · 24/12/2023 01:41

I’ve been excited since the first of December. I bloody love Christmas 🎄

ReTrainTheBrain · 24/12/2023 01:48

It's nice to hear that excitement and sense of celebration.
Mine will be stressful as I've got a massive list of things to do tomorrow and family over for Xmas and staying for a few days.
I'll love it once everything is ready.

mondaytosunday · 24/12/2023 03:49

No - sounds like you've basically made Christmas Eve the same as Christmas Day with a special breakfast etc. Nice you are all excited about it but I couldn't sustain that level with four kids in the house.

Soonenough · 24/12/2023 04:00

No . It was fun when kids were young . Now just the day before when I end up doing all the prep for Xmas Day. Used to envy friends that events to go to or people to host.

SinnerBoy · 24/12/2023 04:06

No, not since I was about 11. I'm pretty "Bah, humbug!" but I make the effort for my daughter.
