To wish all SEN families a merry Christmas?

Knowing that Mumsnet seem to despise us?

That sounds like bait however having seen threads recently which have been very derogatory towards ND children, it feels necessary.

My wish for the New Year is for people to appreciate how awful SEND provision is

Thank you, and merry Christmas to you too. Mum of 5 dc, 3 with autism, 1 with autism and adhd and 1 with Gdd.

Miralice · 17/12/2023 22:29

Thank you! Merry Christmas to you too. In this house we have 2x tourette's and autism. Christmas excitement tonight means 2 hours (so far) of constant screetching and shouting tics while my son is desperately trying to get to sleep. We will get there.
Extremely grateful to live in a detached house (especially after reading comments on here on how we should try to keep our kids quiet!).

elliejjtiny · 17/12/2023 22:34

@Miralice we live in a detached house too and we are rural, which I thought was the right thing to do as we don't have neighbours to complain about dc5's screaming. Although I've been informed today on mumsnet that we should all live in the city and within walking distance of an appropriate SN school.

Annon00 · 17/12/2023 22:51

And to you! @SpudleyLass

Billi80 · 17/12/2023 22:54

Happy Christmas to all of you. You’re doing brilliantly

Peripeteia · 17/12/2023 22:59

Thanks for this thread OP. It can be pretty isolating at times so lovely to share good wishes with one another. Merry Christmas all!

Victoriasponge12 · 17/12/2023 23:07

Thank you! The same to all of you, I hope this Christmas is easy on everyone.

Also, 48% (ten people) have voted YABU, literally proves your point about mumsnet despising SEN families!

ThequalityoftheReps · 17/12/2023 23:09

YANBU

Ratfinkstinkypink · 17/12/2023 23:14

Hopingforholidayhelp · 17/12/2023 23:15

National autistic society have some great Christmas tips on thier website

Mariposista · 17/12/2023 23:23

Really feel for you. Your Christmas is likely to be hecking hard work - just like every other day is.
Make the best of it if you can.

CipherEcho · 17/12/2023 23:40

@SpudleyLass id say its not mumsnet as a whole its like society, its down to the individuals themselves and their behaviours,

that said merry christmas op @SpudleyLass

ThickSkinnedSoWhat · 18/12/2023 00:13

Thanks for this. Been a very stressful time in my home. Lone parenting and a child with ASD and SLD is never easy, but it's overly difficult around this time.

Merry Christmas to you and your family too

stilldumdedumming · 18/12/2023 06:54

I don't have SEN children but I work adjacent to the SEN/EHCP (lack of) system and it's so completely broken that even I, without your struggles, could honestly cry.

I can't believe the lack of understanding when there's so much need out there. And so so many children being failed.

I hope it's ok to wish that Christmas brings you all at least respite from any struggles with the system you are having. And those that are not understanding or who are judging badly can quite honestly do one.

Thanks for this thread OP.

SEN mum here feeling sad after reading the rural transport thread this morning. Really does feel like we are despised at times.

Wishing you all a merry Christmas and a wonderful 2024 🌟

autienotnaughty · 18/12/2023 07:32

Merry Christmas! DS with ASC, ADHD and SPD here. He loves Christmas which is the one saving grace for this time of year.

rorret · 18/12/2023 08:54

Merry Christmas to all SN families.

MissHavershamReturns · 18/12/2023 08:55

Merry Xmas to us all. Good job our young people are the wonderful shining lights that they are, bringing joy into a foolish world.

Cubic · 18/12/2023 08:56

Merry Christmas all

Prayfortheangels · 18/12/2023 09:01

Oh god, I cannot wait till the end of term. The school has been nothing but supportive but the school mums are a bunch of spiteful bitches because I'm the weird mum with the weird kid.

Perhapsanorhertimewouldbebetter · 18/12/2023 09:02

Happy Christmas everyone.

As a member of MN I definitely don't despise you or your child(ren), I despise a system which is failing everyone.

I voted YABU because I feel it's unreasonable to say that MN despises SN families - I despise a system that's failing everyone, I don't despise those it's failing.

PiggieWig · 18/12/2023 09:11

Merry Christmas everyone! It’s the threads where people stress about having their kids home for a fortnight that get me. Mine’s been in and out of education (mostly out) for three years and the older one is long term unemployed.
