Double dosed 3 month old on calpol. Help

My husband has accidently gave our 3 month old the 6 plus calpol instead of his infant calpol so he has had 120mg instead 60mg

Will he be OK? Obviously we won't give him anymore tonight but do we need the ring 111 or anything?

Should you be giving a 3 month old Calpol anyway?

Immunisations at 8 and 16 weeks recommend calpol before and after.

Cornettoninja · 11/12/2023 19:48

@user1469032438 definitely 111 or anywhere you can access proper medical assessment so if that’s A&E then go there.

in all likelihood it’s fine but it’s better to let a professional assess your baby and tell you that it’s fine over people on the internet who can’t see your dc to judge anything physical.

Fluffypiki · 11/12/2023 19:58

Did it to DD when she was small, when I called 111 they told me to just not her anymore gor a while.

coffeeaddict77 · 11/12/2023 20:07

They will be fine but don't give anymore for 24 hours. I would also phone 111 for reassurance.

Creamice · 11/12/2023 20:07

I would definitely go to A+E rather than ringing 111.
also if you’ve given other normal doses today it’s important to be mindful of that as is potentially a “staggered overdose” which is more serious

GingersOwner26 · 11/12/2023 20:12

Call 111 for some proper medical advice

pinkfonie · 11/12/2023 20:12

Double dose of calpol? Seriously I don't think you need to ring 111 for that..

Frabbits · 11/12/2023 20:14

Ring 111. Presumably people saying not to have no idea how dangerous a paracetamol overdose can be.

In a 3 month old you do

What happens? Would it be the same if I took 4 tablets in one go?

Needahandholdplease2023 · 11/12/2023 20:18

111 will want her weight and how much she's had and of what and they will calculate if its dangerous or not. My son managed to open a sealed calpol bottle before and had no idea how much he drank so we had to go to a+e. I think you'll be fine but better to check!!

Needahandholdplease2023 · 11/12/2023 20:18

Sorry he

Are you 3 months old?

Thanks for proving my point.

Fleamaker · 11/12/2023 20:22

I've done this. Forgot it was the 6+ and realised as he swallowed it.
Took toddler to A &E.
They look at how much has been given over the 24 hours, one extra dose was fine. Also weighed him.
I felt so guilty but they reassured me it was a common mistake.

Savedpassword · 11/12/2023 20:25

Call 111 or OOHS. Make sure you have an accurate weight and details of how many other doses baby has had in the past 24 hours.

Dognono · 11/12/2023 20:36

You need to call 111 as it's just the responsible thing to do. Yes they'll more than likely be absolutely fine but I wouldn't be surprised if they want her in just to check her over etc.

No reason not to provided its age appropriate dosage. Infant bottle goes from 2mths +. Many babies get fevers or teething pain at 3 months and need relief.

zeibesaffron · 11/12/2023 20:43

Call now - or go straight to a and e. Do not mess around with paracetamol.

user1469032438 · 11/12/2023 20:53

Hi everybody thank you for the advice

Just to let you know I remembered whilst waiting for 111 to phone back that we have open access to the children's ward at the hospital due to being in for a little while on Friday, so I gave them a ring and they said as it was his only lot of calpol today he will be fine just don't give anymore for 24 hours. Phew!
