Double dosed 3 month old on calpol. Help

user1469032438 · 11/12/2023 19:32

My husband has accidently gave our 3 month old the 6 plus calpol instead of his infant calpol so he has had 120mg instead 60mg

Will he be OK? Obviously we won't give him anymore tonight but do we need the ring 111 or anything?

I would. In a baby that young, take no chances.

Throckmorton · 11/12/2023 19:33

Best ring 111 to be safe

Jifmicroliquid · 11/12/2023 19:33

Ring 111. Better safe than sorry.

He will be absolutely fine.

Like you say, no more tonight.

Blueeyes13 · 11/12/2023 19:34

I did this once. Rang 111 they checked baby's weight and dosage and said it was fine and not to worry. Depends on your baby's weight how much they can safely have.

Whatafustercluck · 11/12/2023 19:34

Call 111 ASAP.

salamirose · 11/12/2023 19:34

Ring 111 don't take any chances.

Sweetlily99 · 11/12/2023 19:34

Yes definitely it's paracetamol and by weight so really important they do a calc

RougeFraise · 11/12/2023 19:35

Yes ring 111. Far better to have a medical professional assure you.

Soubriquet · 11/12/2023 19:35

Don’t mess with paracetamol. Whilst it’s a common drug, it’s also one of the most dangerous. Please do call 111 just to make sure.

salamirose · 11/12/2023 19:36

Why would you not ring 111? You've asked on here it's kind of the same thing but with someone able to tell you for sure.

Raindancer411 · 11/12/2023 19:37

Call 111 for advice is better than asking on here OP. Hope all is ok

salamirose · 11/12/2023 19:37

I'd possibly even go to a&e

Hadebough · 11/12/2023 19:38

Will be fine- not over the daily dosage.
just don't give any more until it's been 24 hours

NameChange259 · 11/12/2023 19:38

Have baby's latest weight to hand when you call them. If they say it's fine / watch and wait - ask for a nurse call back if you like so you can discuss what's wrong with baby and what to watch out for.

TruJay · 11/12/2023 19:39

I have huge fears of doing this so always triple check the bottle, we have a big age gap so have both in our house too. The Calcough bottle looks similar to the others too!

If it was me, I’d definitely be checking with a professional. Do you have any 24 hr or late opening pharmacies you could call in the first instance and see what they advise? Doesn’t it say on the bottle on the case of overdosing to check with a professional even if the child/person seems well. I wouldn’t want to risk it personally. It would put your mind at rest too.

BertieBotts · 11/12/2023 19:40

111 is definitely the right thing to do.

To reassure you, I seem to recall that an NCT friend's toddler got hold of the calpol bottle and managed to open it, she phoned them in a panic and they were able to reassure her that it was unlikely he had overdosed. But definitely call them. At 3 months proper medical advice is a good idea.

CurlewKate · 11/12/2023 19:41

Should you be giving a 3 month old Calpol anyway?

Jellycats4life · 11/12/2023 19:41

You need to seek medical advice ASAP.

Hadebough · 11/12/2023 19:42

Also for 6+ calpol you could get the chewable tablets or the sachets to prevent them getting mixed up again (so easy to do when little ones are poorly and you're not getting much sleep)

AtrociousCircumstance · 11/12/2023 19:43

You’ll possibly need to go to A&E. paracetamol overdose is weight related in kids I think. Do ring 111.

RecycleThie · 11/12/2023 19:44

Am sure it’ll be ok but call 111. They will want to know his weight. Better safe than sorry.

BMWM340 · 11/12/2023 19:44

CurlewKate · 11/12/2023 19:41

It says on the bottle suitable from 2 months if they're a certain (and most babies will be) weight.

Rachie1973 · 11/12/2023 19:45

111 to check but it’s a ‘maximum dose in 24 hours’.

it’ll be fine :)
