AIBU to say Alison Hammond is much better than Matt Lucas in GBBO?

Just watching latest series of GBBO on catch up. Matt Lucas was not funny at all. Alison Hammond much funnier and more engaging to watch (IMHO)!

Agreed. She works well with Noel and brings a lightness to the tent. She was a hit in our house!

MaryLennoxsScowl · 04/12/2023 08:54

Well, YANBU, but the bar was on the floor. I don’t like Alison either but she isn’t as cringily bad as Matt. I miss Sandi, she and Noel were actually funny together.

Newgirls · 04/12/2023 08:56

Thought Alison was perfect in this. She could do the show on her own - not sure what Noel brings to be honest.

Comedycook · 04/12/2023 08:57

Agree...I really like Alison.

I have never really liked Noel... always seemed like an odd choice for gbbo to me.

bananaboats · 04/12/2023 08:58

I agree alison is a good additional. I thought matt was ok but he didn't really add much he was just there really.

AlisinH · 04/12/2023 09:01

Not sure I enjoy some of the silly smutty humour they seem to be labouring this series of GBBO!

I'd never seen her in anything before, she seemed nice to the contestants but I found the way she laughs to be almost unbearable, put me right off.

ManyATrueWord · 04/12/2023 09:03

I think Alison brings some very needed positivity to the tent.

Yes, the smut is tiresome. They work it too hard.

SnapdragonToadflax · 04/12/2023 09:05

Agreed, she's fun and much better for the programme. I'm not keen on Noel tbh, he was better than Matt Lucus but I feel like he thinks it's all a bit beneath him.

I still miss Mel and Sue, they were perfect.

Sholkedabemus · 04/12/2023 09:05

She is a breath of fresh air, I love her. Now we just have to get rid of Paul, Pru and Noel.

Ploctopus · 04/12/2023 09:09

I didn’t mind ML particularly but I agree Alison is doing a great job. She had the right level of warmth and she’s funny. She’s not quite at the level of Sandi Toksvig for me but I do like her.

(Still miss Mel and Sue)

mondaytosunday · 04/12/2023 09:10

Her laugh though! Sometimes it seems so forced. I quite like all the presenters since they moved over - Mel and Sue though were not good.

Totally agree. Mary Berry saying ‘I’ll eat a bit of carpet’ was delicious precisely because it was completely innocent. The way the judges now deliberately make a ghastly innuendo and then pause while they wait for people to get it is cringy beyond belief.

Xx1000xX · 04/12/2023 09:11

I like her, it’s Prue I can’t stand.

BoohooWoohoo · 04/12/2023 09:12

Agree with the comments so far.

The smut is too much - it used to be funny because it was accidental.

Alison is a much better choice than Matt Lucas who clearly thought that it should be a one man job. Alison and Noel work well together and separately.

I miss Mel, Sue and Sandi.

ThankYoufortheDay · 04/12/2023 09:14

I don’t get why the smut and innuendos this year. I found it embarrassing. They repeated a lot of it on An Extra Slice too.

WillowTit · 04/12/2023 09:15

i am not sure if i watched it with matt, or if i did i liked him,
they are both ok

SnapdragonToadflax · 04/12/2023 09:19

I agree the smut is laboured this year. It used to be just a funny little extra bit to the series, a cheeky comment and carry on, but they're trying to crowbar it in to everything now.

It started off organically because it was Mel and Sue's natural humour when combined with the more dry Paul and Mary who was really only thinking about the bakes, and it worked.

Fizbosshoes · 04/12/2023 09:21

Neither Matt or Noel seem(ed) to have even the slightest interest in food, recipes, baking or the contestants themselves....so the only thing they had was fairly lame jokes, sometimes at the expense of the contestants. (In a previous series, Jurgen made it really clear that they were being a pita and their jokes were not funny, it was really awkward...and quite funny!)
Alison is so much better

Lifestooshort71 · 04/12/2023 09:23

She's OK, better than Matt but the laugh/teeth/lashes combo is a bit too much sometimes. Noel has outstayed his time (if he kept coming up to me with his smutty one-liners when I was working against the clock, I'd poke him in the eye with a wooden spoon). I like Prue because she knows what she's talking about and works well with Paul. Who to replace Noel though? Needs to be a bloke and someone not as flamboyant as Noel or Alison, trying to think of a gentle comic who'd balance them out....

BestIsWest · 04/12/2023 09:25

I like her a lot. I am fed up with Paul Hollywood though.

Bluevelvetsofa · 04/12/2023 09:33

Paul is becoming a caricature of himself, Noel is bored with the programme, Prue is ok ish and Alison is a breath of fresh air.

There must be someone who is a talented baker and less pretentious and irritating than Paul. Maybe Jo Brand should be with Alison.

GetYourBaublesOut · 04/12/2023 09:37

As a general rule I prefer Matt to Alison but on GBBO Alison is way better than Matt. Have been pleasantly surprised how well she has suited the show.

SweetFemaleAttitude · 04/12/2023 09:39

I can't stand her. She's ruined it for me this year.

That forced fake very loud laugh she does is irritating AF. Nothing on bake off is THAT funny.

I also think when she say 'bayke' in her accent, it's so forced, she is trying to make it 'a thing'

Janieforever · 04/12/2023 09:41

I also quite like her, she’s quite warm. I also think Noel does a good job, he’s just different and not what you’d expect in this show, and that’s fine it’s ok to be different.
