The Coop finest or whatever that range is called have been voted best this year. I don't eat mince pies until Christmas week as I'd be like a barrel, but l'm told they're very good.

Chipsandbeansandcheese · 03/12/2023 14:50

Greggs are so good.

LadeOde · 03/12/2023 14:50

My all time favourite is Costco mince pies, although they're more like cakes. Lashings of custard or ice cream on top will finish you off after Xmas dinner.

Giraffe888 · 03/12/2023 14:51

Tesco finest crumble topped ones

They are, but I like their baked in-store ones even more . DH prefers the recommended ones. Nice pastry and a lot of filling.

Asda Sloe Gin ones were epic, but it looks like they’re doing a butter and rum version this year- still to try.

The butter and rum ones are lovely.
I also thought the sole gin ones were great last year ( and the Baileys ones but I ate so many of them that I began to find them a bit sickly 😂)

Bluevelvetsofa · 03/12/2023 15:27

Aldi posh ones and Aldi Ballycastle, which have a Bailey’s dupe topping.

KimberleyClark · 03/12/2023 16:21

I’ve just had a Co op one and it was delicious. Not even the Irresistible range.

SparklingSparkle · 03/12/2023 16:22

Cook or Costco

Mytholmroyd · 03/12/2023 16:25

Thomas the Baker make the best ones in my opinion and are the ones we always buy but I think their shops are only in Yorkshire.

BigFatLiar · 03/12/2023 16:26

Are there bad mince pies? Surely not.

Moonshine86 · 03/12/2023 16:26

ALDI Rum mince pies are absolutely divine!

Yes there are - soggy pastry is a big no from me!

Robinbuildsbears · 03/12/2023 16:28

The huge Costco ones are the best, but I can hardly ever get them. Greggs are my usual ones.

Sickly sweet, gloopy fruit, cardboard pastry... loads that could go wrong!

I rate M&S bakery ones for trad and Sainsbury's Ecclefechan for non-trad (cross between a mince pie and treacle tart)

Hallionflossie · 03/12/2023 16:31

I had the Iceland luxury ones last week, really nice.

HouseOfRunners · 03/12/2023 16:32
  1. Waitrose brown sugar and cognac
  2. M&S collection
  3. Sainsbury’s taste the difference
RedToothBrush · 03/12/2023 16:33

Two years ago we did a mince pie blind tasting evening with a bunch of friends. (12 of us)

We averaged out the results - mini mince pie did badly. The pastry to filling content didn't rate well with most of us.

Overall Sainsbury's normal bog standard mince pies came out best for taste and value. Generally Sainsbury's mince pies scored better than all the other supermarkets.

So now I buy Sainsbury's mince pies because I figure they are the ones most people I know will be happiest with.

(This post was not sponsored by Sainsbury's!)

Frosty1000 · 03/12/2023 16:45

In our house there's a close tie between the Sainsbury's or Morrisons ones from the bakery, so not in a box as they're in the clear cake tray.

The day they stop making those is a very sad day.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 03/12/2023 16:57

If you're in Yorkshire, the mince pies from Thomas the Baker are the only ones I like at all!

Sturmundcalm · 03/12/2023 17:00

I can't do dairy so my faves are Waitrose essentials and the Co-op vegan ones.

TheFlis · 03/12/2023 17:07

At my old office we used to do blind taste testing every year of every mince pie we could find from Harrods to Aldi. M&S deep filled all butter won every single year.

WildFlowerBees · 03/12/2023 17:16

Sainsbury's fresh ones I like them short with lots of filling not a shed load of pastry in those nasty tin foil cases.

VanityDiesHard · 03/12/2023 17:17

Waitrose Brown Butter mince pies, served warm with clotted cream and Jude's ice cream. Yum, yum, and once again yum.

Nopenopenopenopenopenope · 03/12/2023 17:17

Asda extra special brown butter and rum
