To expect people to NOT message me just because I’ve clicked ‘favourite’ on their item on Vinted?

RealBigBarbie · 30/11/2023 17:22

I’ve been using Vinted for a while and recently, when I favourite an item, the buyer will message me asking if I’m interested. I also get told that they’ll give me a discount if I purchase asap. Does anyone else get these sorts of messages?

If I favourite an item, it’s because I’m interested but I’m still looking around. Or I’m waiting for payday to be able to make an offer/buy the item. As soon as the buyer messages me it kind of puts me off as I find it really annoying.

Whenever people favourite an item I’m selling, I never message them as I don’t see why I’d need too! I just leave them too it and if they want to eventually put in an offer/buy the item then great, if not, then no problem. Someone will buy it eventually. What are you guys’ thoughts on this? Maybe I should just favourite less items as I’m tired of getting constant messages

Getting an offer when you favourite is great. The random 'hi, it is a nice bag, isn't it' kind of messages feel a bit like you go into Lush and they keep following you aroud asking if you need any help!
I got a message telling me I was rude and then got blocked because I liked an item and then didn't reply to the pointless messages telling me it would cost more on Etsy.

This is the sort of stuff I mean!🤣

Recently I clicked on the favourite button and straight away the buyer messaged me. I ignored it as I found it really pushy and quite aggressive and they messaged back saying I was rude and blocked me. So weird!

I always favourite in the same way as you but take a risk that it might sell if I wait, or I might get a few quid off. I'd buy immediately if I was desperate for an item!

haribosmarties · 30/11/2023 18:11

I like it because you can see who might actually post the item.
I've had problems in the past where I've bought something and it's never got posted to me.. or the person has waited right to the end of the 5 day limit to post and it's been a weekend or something so the item hasn't arrived in time for what I wanted it for.
If a seller messages as soon as I favourite something it's a good sign that they would get it posted if I bought. So I remember which sellers message when I go to buy things.
Of course if I'm not interested I just ignore it.
I don't get what there is to be annoyed about tbh? Its just people trying to sell stuff.. thats what the site is for

I favourite things and then leave them, hoping for a discount 🤷‍♀️

I ignore any messages tbh.

How does that work then? How do you know you're getting a discount if you ignore any messages?

MarleyandMarleyWoo · 30/11/2023 17:33

I find the messages simply asking if you’re interested quite annoying cause there’s really no point to them but I bloody love it when they send me a discount, that’s a bonus surely of adding anything to your favourites? I refuse to pay ‘full price’ for anything on Vinted.

Plenty of stuff on there is less than a fiver!

haribosmarties · 30/11/2023 18:13

I do agree it is annoying to get more than one message or called rude for not replying to an unsolicited message...
But being messaged once doesn't annoy me it just let's me know that seller is keen to sell

wigglycactus · 30/11/2023 18:15

You can change this setting here in your account settings. Untoggle the option that says 'notify sellers when I favourite their items'. They then won't be able to see that you have liked their item and therefore won't message you.
I leave mine ticked on as like others, I get offers quite often which might encourage me to buy the item. I ignore most other messages.

LittleBlueUnicorn · 30/11/2023 18:17

Yes I get this a lot. Never usually an offer just people letting me know if I buy it they will post it tomorrow. I liked a dress and got asked if I needed any more information😂 messAges are different to offers I don't think there's a complaint about offers but it's when they message pointless things

I think there may be a bit of a misunderstanding.

I have notifications turned off for when someone favourites my item. The notifications only show up when I’m in the app which I have no issue with.

My annoyance is when I favourite an item and the buyer then decides to message me saying, ‘are you still interested?’ ‘Let me know if you want to buy it and I’ll send it out asap’ etc. I always make an offer on items as I hardly ever buy the item for the price they’re asking (unless it’s ridiculously cheap) so I don’t really need those messages JUST because I clicked on the favourite button.

People suggesting that I turn off notifications will not stop buyers still messaging me!

It's no wonder there's misunderstanding, this post is confusing.

Surely your issue is with sellers messaging you, not buyers?

If you don't want sellers to message you when you favourite an item, update your settings as previous posters have suggested.

HardHeartedHarbingerofHaggis · 30/11/2023 18:28

You can change your settings so that a buyer doesn't know who has favourited. If you have your profile open I'd assume you were open to receiving messages.

Same.

BitchImTheSecretIngredient · 30/11/2023 18:35

I hate it. I favourited something the other day and the seller told me she has other seller items available. Then told me she was going to the post office tomorrow if i wanted to buy. Then offered me £1 off. Way too pushy

KrisAkabusi · 30/11/2023 18:12

It works by me accepting any discounts (if they're enticing enough and I'm still interested) and ignoring any messages that are a seller trying to engage in conversation without a discount.

brainstories568 · 30/11/2023 18:45

I buy and sell on Vinted. I am always looking to buy something in particular (rather than just browsing) so use the favourite function to get a shortlist before either settling on the one I want or thinking about it for a few days or so to see what other people put on if it's a popular item. Then once I've bought what I want then I remove all of the favourites as I'm no longer interested. As a seller it wouldn't occur to message everyone who favourites items with an offer... But then I also dislike it when people offer the lowest price possible within minutes of you putting it on when clearly I'm not going to say "yes" at that moment.

What I'd really like is an ignore button for a search so you can remove that item from the search as you've decided that you don't want to buy it for whatever reason but you don't want to block the seller as you want to see their items come up in future searches for something else.

stopringingme · 30/11/2023 18:45

@RealBigBarbie

If you go into your settings you can turn off the notification that tells the seller you have put their item in your favourites.

I turned this feature off ages ago as I was fed up of being told they were going to the post office and other various messages that really didn't interest me.

Noooo haha since when?!! I went through my settings about a month ago to see if there was a way that buyers wouldn’t get informed if I favourited their item but I couldn’t see anything like that. I must have missed it.

See, this is why I love MN. I came on here to complain and people have given me a solution (even though I misunderstood what was being said, soz!). Thanks guys, I’m going to do that now

Alohapotato · 30/11/2023 18:54

I totally agree

RealBigBarbie · 30/11/2023 18:58

I was picking up my daughter from nursery and briefly read the responses so apologies for misunderstanding people on the first place! I’ve now turned that feature off (I completely missed it because I didn’t scroll down further enough) so that will stop people bothering me.

For what it’s worth, I’m not annoyed when someone messages me with an offer even though I still find that quite pushy. It’s annoying when people say things like ‘hi if you want this I’m going to ship other parcels tomorrow.’ ‘If you like this item then I have others that are similar’ etc like pls leave me alone!! I’m just browsing and favouriting items so I can go through and see what I’d like to buy.

First world problem I know

I have never ever had this

FizzyLaser · 30/11/2023 19:00

I have never ever had this

I was the same up until 4/5 months ago!

I’ve also noticed an increase of items that are listed but then say ‘collection only from X area.’ I can understand if the item is somewhat big and you wouldn’t know how to package it, but doing that for a £10 dress is annoying. Maybe I’m just a miserable person!

OP posts:
AlwaysGinPlease · 30/11/2023 19:05

I get it too and also find it annoying. One seller offered a small discount and then pestered me telling me she was going to the post office that day so if I wanted jt to hurry up so she could catch the post! I unfavourited it and didn't respond.
