To expect people to NOT message me just because I’ve clicked ‘favourite’ on their item on Vinted?

RealBigBarbie · 30/11/2023 17:22

I’ve been using Vinted for a while and recently, when I favourite an item, the buyer will message me asking if I’m interested. I also get told that they’ll give me a discount if I purchase asap. Does anyone else get these sorts of messages?

If I favourite an item, it’s because I’m interested but I’m still looking around. Or I’m waiting for payday to be able to make an offer/buy the item. As soon as the buyer messages me it kind of puts me off as I find it really annoying.

Whenever people favourite an item I’m selling, I never message them as I don’t see why I’d need too! I just leave them too it and if they want to eventually put in an offer/buy the item then great, if not, then no problem. Someone will buy it eventually. What are you guys’ thoughts on this? Maybe I should just favourite less items as I’m tired of getting constant messages

I feel exactly the same! I wonder if it’s an automated email? I only buy on Vinted so I don’t know what options are available to sellers. Anyway, it drives me bonkers and puts me right off buying 🤣

I realise this is a first world problem…

I use favourite as a kind of bookmark. I scroll through, favourite anything that catches my eye and then go back and look at them in detail. I don't like messages either.

Fairyliz · 30/11/2023 17:31

No I think it’s a great as often when you favour an item the seller often sends you an offer of a reduced price.
Sometimes it’s for less than I was willing to pay so a win for me.

IAmAnIdiot123 · 30/11/2023 17:32

I don't message people who favourite things but you get a notification saying something like 'x has added thus to their favourites, send an offer!' I imagine some people just think this is the done thing becauae of it.

AbacusAvocado · 30/11/2023 17:32

It’s common to favourite hoping for a discount or offer though. It’s used the same way as putting things in your basket on other sites, you often get a discount from the seller just for showing that you’re interested. The sellers aren’t breaking any kind of Vinted etiquette rules.
So ignore the messages or don’t favourite things!

Jijithecat · 30/11/2023 17:32

I think Vinted notify the seller that you have favourited an item and encourage them to make contact.
FWIW, I never do. I figure that I like to be left to make a decision myself so other people might too.

gotomomo · 30/11/2023 17:33

I would assume that if you favourite it is shortlisted at the very least so buyers offering it cheaper is good.

MarleyandMarleyWoo · 30/11/2023 17:33

I find the messages simply asking if you’re interested quite annoying cause there’s really no point to them but I bloody love it when they send me a discount, that’s a bonus surely of adding anything to your favourites? I refuse to pay ‘full price’ for anything on Vinted.

lipsticktractor · 30/11/2023 17:33

I did it once as a seller as I was new to Vinted and to be fair had just reduced the price. I don’t know why Vinted send sellers a message though, if I got a notification every time someone watched an eBay item I was selling it’d drive me mad.

BlackFlyChardonnay · 30/11/2023 17:36

I favourite things and then leave them, hoping for a discount 🤷‍♀️

I ignore any messages tbh.

CastleCrasher · 30/11/2023 17:36

I use it as a kind of bookmark too but often a seller will message with a reduced price offer and that tempts me into buying so it works for them. So I can't complain really as it's a win win.

NotFastButFurious · 30/11/2023 17:37

I’d say that Vinted rather encourages it. If someone favourites your item you get a notification and when you open it it has a “hi I’m buyer123” and shows their star rating and underneath there’s a box to send a message and options at the top to reserve or make an offer.
personally I’ve never sent a message when someone has favourited an item but maybe some buyer think they have to?

Precipice · 30/11/2023 17:38

You can turn this off in settings.

adomizo · 30/11/2023 17:40

Yanbu. I'm selling on vinted and find people very needy lol. Loads of random questions and I have already provided v detailed info and 5 photos of the trainers for 4 quid. Then there's the requests to post quickly (which I always do ) and after alllll that no review !

Yorkshiredolls · 30/11/2023 17:42

I am selling it, I want rid of it and I want some
money for it. If umpteen people have favourite it and no offers, and I get a notification off vinted each time, it starts too get really tedious . So I will start making offers just to get rid. Ots like time wasters in facebook marketting asking if the item is still available and then ghosting. Why favourite it if you don’t even want the item?

Bonbon21 · 30/11/2023 17:44

I dont reply/buy when the seller chases me up for favouriting... wary that it is a scam!!
I bought an item at 'full' price recently although seller offered a reduction because I was delighted at the bargain already offered and I though that was fair.

SushiAndSkittles · 30/11/2023 17:45

I mostly sell on vinted and I don’t message people who favourite my items, I can’t be bothered! 🤣

TheHawkisHowling · 30/11/2023 17:46

I don't really like the ones saying they can post it out right away. I was kind of assuming it would be posted relatively quickly anyway.

I don't mind people offering me a deal though. Bring it on!

SunnyCoco · 30/11/2023 17:47

As a seller, Vinted does prompt you to message people who have favourited the item
I never bother as I'm also a buyer who finds it irritating!

Missymooo322133 · 30/11/2023 17:47

There's an option in privacy settings where you can untick when a person sees you have favourited thier item. My life have been peaceful since

roseopose · 30/11/2023 17:49

I sell on vinted and always send an offer of a few pounds less if someone favourites an item but I don't send the long messages encouraging people to buy but with no price reduction. As a buyer I don't really appreciate them either and it usually makes me unfavourite the item because I've found otherwise people keep on sending the messages.

PinkArt · 30/11/2023 17:55

Getting an offer when you favourite is great. The random 'hi, it is a nice bag, isn't it' kind of messages feel a bit like you go into Lush and they keep following you aroud asking if you need any help!
I got a message telling me I was rude and then got blocked because I liked an item and then didn't reply to the pointless messages telling me it would cost more on Etsy.

CaptainJackSparrow85 · 30/11/2023 18:00

It’s a bartering site so favouriting something is indicated to someone that you might be interested. Often when people favourite my items I’ll send them a reduced offer.

But as others have said, if you don’t like it and you just want to use favouriting as a way of listing stuff to look at later, you can turn it off in settings.

alrighthen · 30/11/2023 18:03

I like it when they make an offer (unless it’s 50p off which just feels childish somehow!)

I don’t like the ‘hey I can post today’ messages but appreciate others may

RealBigBarbie · 30/11/2023 18:04

I think there may be a bit of a misunderstanding.

I have notifications turned off for when someone favourites my item. The notifications only show up when I’m in the app which I have no issue with.

My annoyance is when I favourite an item and the buyer then decides to message me saying, ‘are you still interested?’ ‘Let me know if you want to buy it and I’ll send it out asap’ etc. I always make an offer on items as I hardly ever buy the item for the price they’re asking (unless it’s ridiculously cheap) so I don’t really need those messages JUST because I clicked on the favourite button.

People suggesting that I turn off notifications will not stop buyers still messaging me!
