M and S charging for carriers

AIBU to find it cheeky of m&s to charge 10p for a paper carrier bag when I've just spent £50 on a dress? Especially as I got caught in the rain and it disintegrated.
I can understand why you would charge for a plastic bag, but this is ridiculous.

What's worse is that they charge 10p for a flower bag! People don't usually have a suitable bag to put a couple of bunches of flowers in.

I hate this too. It just stops me buying them.
I do take bags out, but I can't put a still wet bunch of flowers in my canvas bag.

@FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper It never takes a second to get an assistant to verify bags, more like 3-4 minutes. I just scan, pile it up in scale, pay and then pack.

@Palewildflower M&S must be so proud of you.

It depends where you are if retailers have to charge for paper bags. I believe in Wales they have to charge for paper bags but not in England.
Morrisons make (or at least they used to make) some really good quality paper bags, I've got one I've had for years, so I don't see why M&S can't.

Palewildflower · 30/11/2023 09:43

@Sidebeforeself They are, M&S is my life. M&S completes me. I am nothing without M&S.

It isn't about not being able to afford it, they have to charge for plastic bags. I'm assuming shops dont carry paper bags big enough for the hypothetical large overcoat

Edited

Then they should. Primark and Zara manage it. So does my little local independent clothes shop.

It’s the law. Get over it. Take your own bag in future

Only it isn’t, it is law to charge for plastic bags not paper.

Only in England. 🙄
