Winning the lottery was that it was the only way they could possibly explain how a normal average earning family could own a house in London

CE wouldn't come back and I can't blame him.

They don't seem to have learned any lessons about why they have lost so many viewers. It seems a total mystery to them.

VeniVidiWeeWee · 25/11/2023 23:46

Apo.ogres, I've completely missed the point.

Elentwelvedoc · 25/11/2023 23:46

Well, Donna, Sylvia, and Wilf all lived in a very nice house prior to her winning the lottery anyway. I assumed Wilf owned it and bought it cheaper when he was young. Then they had the three generations living there because they couldn't afford to move out!

Well, seeing as Tom Baker is almost 90 I don't think he'll be back any time soon.

And Chris won't ever come back.

But honestly, get over yourself.

Donna married Shaun in like 2010 as witnessed in The End of Time Pt 2. It's not a new thing.

Fabellini · 25/11/2023 23:50

I assumed the Dr had somehow made it happen to ensure she would be secure after her return to “normal” life, and that was why he was so put out about her giving the money away.

CyberCritical · 25/11/2023 23:51

It was part of the End of Time part 2 episode, Dr went to Donna and Shaun's wedding and gave them a lottery ticket as a present.

GetDownkeith · 25/11/2023 23:52

The Dr gave her the winn8ng ticket as a wedding present after he'd wiped her memory. It wasn't a subplot just for thos episode.

what exactly is it about a mixed race marriage or a (gasp) scientist in a wheelchair that is so unacceptable to you?

DisforDarkChocolate · 26/11/2023 07:44

Donna was the reason I stopped watching, it was more Donna Who than Dr Who.

ItS jUsT nOt ReAlIsTiC, complain the people triggered by a fictional TV show about a double-hearted alien travelling through time in a magical box.

I’m more than happy if racists, misogynists, ableists and transphobes stop watching.

Don’t forget they allowed a woman to be a scientist, with her silly little womans brain.

SilverCatStripes · 26/11/2023 07:59

The use of diverse characters in a story is not a bad thing - and Dr Who has had diverse casting previously, and it’s felt natural to the setting and story.

It is the ham fisted writing which is terrible, far too much telling rather than showing which means we get a lecture rather than a story.

Sunshineantelope · 26/11/2023 08:00

I really enjoyed it. Doctor Donna was my favourite and all the witty one liners really made me laugh, 'tuna masala', 'shorter obviously', and everything about Neris.

Can't wait for the next one. Totally grand if it's not your cup of tea but just a bit of good fun for the rest of us.

charmedtomeetyou · 26/11/2023 08:26

@SilverCatStripes totally agree! such shite acting from all of them as well! I honestly cringed ! Chris Eccleston and Tom Baker repeats for me from now on ! DT has over exposed himself and Catherine Tate is really annoying in it !

It's like people forget it's Russell T Davis of Queer as Folk and Torchwood fame back as writer and runner.

Of course it's going to be representative, that's his whole modus operandi.

The scientist in a wheelchair has loads of awesome gadgets because RTD thought it would be really cool for kids in wheelchairs. These things matter.

How horrible that people who aren't straight white and able bodied are allowed on TV. And a woman scientist? As if!

Iam4eels · 26/11/2023 14:10

I wonder what the correct term is for a lady scientist? Like how a lady doctor is a nurse and a lady businessman is a secretary? If only there were real life lady scientists that we could ask.

CrispsandCheeseSandwich · 26/11/2023 14:13

I've not watched the new episode, but in Donna's last episode (years ago) the Doctor gave her a lottery ticket as a wedding present, after he travelled back in time and borrowed £1 from her dad to buy it.
