Lidl, Asda, M&S, JL, Very all have launched ads! What do we all think?

It’s half term week there, I’ve noticed that my mental capacity shrinking over holidays.
I will enjoy them on Monday 😉

Bluevelvetsofa · 03/11/2023 14:37

Far too early for any Christmas ad, although I realise why they do it. It has the effect on me, of actively avoiding anything to do with those stores and avoiding commercial tv.

Crabble · 03/11/2023 14:38

I really don’t like the M&S one. I’m not outraged about it like some people seem to be, but i think it’s crap and the opposite of what a Christmas ad should be.

SheWhoShallNotBeNameChanged · 03/11/2023 14:39

I’ve only seen the M&S one so far and I was disappointed in that!

SheWhoShallNotBeNameChanged · 03/11/2023 14:39

Crossposted with @Crabble who summed up my sentiments perfectly. It didn’t invoke a warm fuzzy feeling in me or make me smile like most Christmas ads do

TorroFerney · 03/11/2023 14:40

The Lidl one was obviously filmed abroad (which is fine as they aren’t British) so didn’t look right, Waitrose one is fairly bland although I like graham Norton and the Asda one is fun I suppose. Not seen the marks one and assume won’t now, it’s obviously not meant to represent a flag but burning anything isn’t a wise move I’d suggest.

jay55 · 03/11/2023 14:46

I like the M&S one, don't do shit that drives you mad at a stressful time.

Butteredtoast55 · 03/11/2023 14:51

I'm scandalised that they've started this early. It's made me absolutely not want to start Christmas shopping!
I'm not keen on the M&S one even though I love the magnificent Hannah Waddingham and I like both Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Tan France. It just doesn't feel festive or upbeat.

AuntieMarys · 03/11/2023 14:54

I never watch them as I avoid all ads

Worriedkittycat · 03/11/2023 14:59

I like the M and S food one with the Fairy and the gloves.

I liked the raccoon thing in the Lidl one but as PP said, it was obviously filmed abroad so it wasn't quite right.

Asda was OK. Morrisons OK.

JL one was far too depressing and not at all Christmassy.

Waiting to see Aldis.

Previous years adverts have been a lot better than this years offerings so far.

Flowerty · 03/11/2023 15:02

JL haven't aired their advert yet

Figgygal · 03/11/2023 15:04

My only thought is it's ridiculously early for then so am rolling my eyes too furiously to follow them.
I think one had a flamingo?

LindorDoubleChoc · 03/11/2023 15:05

Yabu.

Not sure what you're watching but JL haven't released theirs yet

Wwwnothingdotcom · 03/11/2023 15:39

Tkmaxx has llama in designer gear😂

jumpingbean1810 · 04/11/2023 23:44

The John Lewis one is a charity advert, nothing to do with JL but if it helps raise funds for dementia, no bad thing.

HoHoHoliday · 04/11/2023 23:53

I haven't seen any of them, haven't had my TV on for a few days away, but still feel irritated that I have Christmas thrown in my face from the beginning of November. I just know they will be shown on tv so often that I will hate them all and not want to shop with any of them.

WhyDoIBloodyBother · 05/11/2023 00:01

I’ve seen a couple of different Asda ones now. I quite like them …so far.
Not keen on the M & S gloves one. Didn’t they have a similar one last year with a Dawn French cartoony character?

Ponoka7 · 05/11/2023 00:37

It's only seven weeks to Christmas day. I don't usually see them because I stream everything. I like that the Very advert features Liverpool (where I am) because of the John Moore's connection. I don't like the whole pink flamingo themes about, but at least it was cheery. Lidl tried to be heartwarming but failed.

Letsgoroundagain101 · 05/11/2023 00:45

Don’t like the m&s one at all. I find it mildly depressing for some reason. I wonder if it’s the setting stuff on fire and trashing board games etc. I get the message that you should do Xmas your own way but I’m not sure that the execution came across as humorous which I think it was meant to.
I quite like the Asda one as the staff characters are relatable and I just did not expect buble to be in it at the end. Also like the boots one. Its really simple and about giving thoughtful gifts with fun music.

ScatteredShattered · 05/11/2023 08:53

Also found the M&S one really depressing. It seems to be targeted at resentful mums who put in too much effort, and people who hate family games, so I’m not the target audience. It could have had some happy bits interspersed between the gloom and dark humour. Not nice for kids watching.

TheKnittedCharacter · 05/11/2023 08:55

I like the M&S ad. Although I would have liked to see the Elf properly shredded.

The only other one I’ve seen is the Waitrose ad.

Stroopwaffels · 05/11/2023 08:57

Hoping to get to Boxing Day without seeing one.

Northernladdette · 06/11/2023 20:32

I can’t believe how much money they cost to produce!!

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 06/11/2023 20:36

Lidl’s raccoon one is cute.

The pulled M&S one, hmm?!

Food M&S one ok but Dawn French gets on my wick.

Waitrose, nope, don’t like.

The one with Buble is ok.
