Social media hides reality of parenthood, says writer and comedian.

I mean to a degree, nothing can really prepare you for having children, but some books I read while I was pregnant certainly helped and some social media was very helpful indeed.

He's just chasing headlines - not interested in really understanding these things. I give him a wide berth since his horrible misogynistic book came out.

All that time in Obs & Gynae and he never once looked in on a postnatal ward and observed that it's hard to sleep when babies are concerned?

angelispink · 09/10/2023 16:04

I can’t stand him. Think he’s a total misogynist.

He seems to be very marmite though! There was a discussion about him at my book club and half of us don’t like him and the others think he is hilarious.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 09/10/2023 16:04

I'd have thought parenthood would be a walk in the park after all of those shifts as a junior doctor!

theotherfossilsister · 09/10/2023 16:05

I kind of like him

I guess nothing can prepare you for parenthood

Not ordering two babies to be grown for you by surrogate mothers aged just 4 months apart probably helps with preparation.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 09/10/2023 16:13

Yeah, the four months apart thing seems obscenely badly planned, frankly.

Also, I'm surprised that he opted for surrogacy, having such a good understanding of what it means to a woman to go through pregnancy and childbirth. I've gone off him a little, knowing he did that (twice).

Having read his book I think his disrespect and disregard for women shone through, so it didn’t really lower my opinion any further.

DiaryLouise · 09/10/2023 16:15

No idea what social media he’s been looking at but IME you can’t move on Insta for people telling you about sleepless nights and poo explosions. If anything, it’s the good stuff that doesn’t get mentioned.

Perhaps he means “this is harder than I thought so I’ll blame someone else for misleading me rather than considering it might actually just be hard” just as it was his patients’ fault that he was a shit doctor.

Shouldigoforarunorhavepancakes · 09/10/2023 16:16

I can’t stand him.

He come across as one of those individuals who only respects money and people means nothing to him.

Polkadotsaplenty · 09/10/2023 16:38

I enjoyed the books but have only realised on second reading and becoming ever more aware of feminist issues (to my shame I have accepted so much as the status quo beforehand ) how bloody horrible he found women. He seemed disgusted by them and their vaginas.
I heard him in the Alan carr life's a beach podcast and he was quite unpleasant, talking about luxury hotels and sounded quite ....snooty and quite cutting to Alan too on a weird way. I dunno. Can't see him being selfless enough to make some of the parenting sacrifices other parents (usually the type of women he mocked) make

Healthandsocialcaremodule · 09/10/2023 16:43

You'd think he of all people wouldn't buy a baby, I mean knowing why left medicine, he knows how dangerous it is. He's made a lot of money out of that though.

Odious man.

Mosaic123 · 09/10/2023 16:48

He's just not very bright if he can't work out it's going to be difficult having two tiny children close together. And neither of them are getting over giving birth.

Catleveltired · 09/10/2023 16:50

Nothing is true until a MAN says it. Don't we all know that?

Especially when a man who has bought two children says it's true.

He could not have had more choice over this situation. I simply cannot find any fucks to give him at all.

BloodyHellKen · 09/10/2023 17:00

I came here wondering if there would be a thread and I'm not disappointed 😄

He is is a absolute cock

a) not to have realised it would be v. v. difficult
b) not to be grateful that he's doing what he's doing in full health without having had an episiotomy/c-section/doing all the feeding with his own breasts/9 months of pregnancy and hours/days of labour behind him etc etc (delete as appropriate).

😡😡😡

shockeditellyou · 09/10/2023 17:04

He’s a misogynistic twat who buys people.

EveryKneeShallBow · 09/10/2023 17:07

Others have already said it, @shockeditellyou is nicely succinct.

^this*

I really didn't like him on Desert Island Discs

BallaiLuimni · 09/10/2023 17:15

Plenty of women will have told him how hard parenthood was -he'll have seen some it first hand on the wards. The problem is, he is a massive misogynist and so would have completely disregarded anything that came out of a woman's mouth, thinking he knew better. So now when all those women turn out to be right he has to claim no one told him (because as ever it's women's job to do the work, there's no way he could have asked anyone or read a fucking book) and, far from acknowledging the women who've said for millennia how hard being a parent is, he has to act like this is news that he's wisely imparting to everyone.

I genuinely despise men like him.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 09/10/2023 17:18

My daughter and I largely enjoyed his children’s books apart from the part about surrogacy which entirely glossed over a woman’s contribution. Sounded like you get get babies on Amazon prime, which it appears was his plan.

FKATondelayo · 09/10/2023 17:21

If I want to have some insight into parenting the last person I will ask is a baby trafficking misogynist who mail ordered not one but two babies in a year and whose kids are only a few months old.

Come back when they're teenagers Adam and let us know how you're getting on.

C8H10N4O2 · 09/10/2023 17:25

Why would he come to Mumsnet, its women centred?

He has made his opinions on women very clear - our only value is as service animals to grow and birth children (and probably do the cleaning). Listening to our advice would come far to close to acknowledging we have brains as well as bodies.

Americano75 · 09/10/2023 17:28

Didn't pay enough attention in 'brats and twats' did he?

Odious bastard. I hope those babies lead him a merry hell of a life.

BeggyMitchell · 09/10/2023 17:38

He's a very strange man.
