People who prefer dogs and kids to other humans-adults

Autumnwhenits27degrees · 29/09/2023 22:47

I feel a bit like this…have friends, family etc, but deep down, most adult humans (😂) annoy me a lot of the time and can be confusing and hard work. Kids are so much more straightforward and simple and dogs..well, obviously
Anyone else like this?
My ideal day is probably spent with my dog or my Dd, who’s actually quite interesting with a great sense of humour, despite being only 5

My dog is my family. I prefer her over human strangers. Nothing weird or wrong with that at all.

CakeInAJar · 29/09/2023 23:05

I’ll be honest…I’m quite suspicious of people who prefer sentient beings who don’t/can’t answer back or challenge them and are naive enough to adore that person based on very little.

People who say ‘I prefer dogs to humans’ are often actually not very nice and humans have the ability to spot it

People who prefer dogs to people have often been treated rotten by their fellow humans.
Dogs do not cheat, show malice, bare grudges, get involved in interpersonal spats and politics. You get home, and they treat your arrival back like it was royalty visiting.

But dogs don’t do those things because they’re not capable of doing those things. They don’t think “we’ll I could cheat and lie and talk about politics but my human is so amazing that I won’t”.

Humans are far more complex than dogs, ergo the relationships are more complex.

My dog sighs a lot considering she does not know what politics are 😆

I like simple relationships, so the one with my dog is perfect.

I adore my children, house cats and chihuahua. I don't have family and just don't like people at all especially other people's children.

Eejitmum101 · 29/09/2023 23:39

Other people’s dogs, not so much except for my dads, husbands family dog and the lady down the road’s Staffy! We had a near miss in the park the other day when a dog off the leash came running towards me and my baby, luckily it was called back and didn’t get him. But i love dogs, just depends which types!

@CakeInAJar Why are people who prefer dogs to humans often not very nice? I’ve never thought/noticed that

I will happily talk to most people , I’m outgoing and sociable however if it came to a choice between spend time with a stranger or spend time with my dog then my dog wins because he’s wonderful .

I think you’re both right. People who make a point of the fact they prefer dogs have often been poorly treated and may be somewhat damaged/traumatised, which in turn means they’re not great at or not very interested in social niceties or getting on with other adults. Fine with me and if dogs bring them comfort then great.

Namechange20100 · 30/09/2023 12:24

I prefer animals to humans (bar my DH and child). Especially cats.

SchoolQuestionnaire · 30/09/2023 12:26

I love my dogs far more than most people! I’m not damaged, haven’t been treated badly, it’s simply because they are ‘my’ dogs. I suppose it’s only the same as loving my mum or husband or kids more than most people. Although my dogs are particularly adorable.

OnAFrolicOfMyOwn · 30/09/2023 12:27

Generally I prefer animals to humans of all ages.

5128gap · 30/09/2023 12:36

Personally I find the relationships with dogs/human don't even bear comparison. It's like saying do you prefer gel nails or a bag of chips.
One type of relationship is with a non verbal dependent from a different species the other with a peer, a fellow human being. Entirely different things. As for lumping children with dogs rather than people, I can't get my head round that at all!

I’ve explained why I think that in my first post.

I think people automatically correlate ‘animal lover’ with ‘being kind’ and IME it’s just not true. Some of the worst people I’ve ever known are ‘I love my pet more than humans’ and I know it’s because humans call them out on their nastiness whereas a pet will love them quite frankly because that’s the person who feeds and walks them

Sigmama · 30/09/2023 15:51

Preferring dogs to humans is rather egocentric, I much prefer people

Robinbuildsbears · 30/09/2023 15:57

Completely understand preferring kids to grown ups, but can't at all understand preferring animals to people.

Sigmama · 30/09/2023 16:19

My pref is adults, children, dogs, but I like chatting!

JamSandle · 30/09/2023 16:21

I like good people very much.

Love animals.

Not fussed by most kids.

ntmdino · 30/09/2023 16:22

Apart from very specific humans, my preferences are dogs > adults > kids.

Children are terrifying, noisy bundles of germs and unpredictability.

MasterBeth · 30/09/2023 16:23

I feel sorry for anyone who feels they have a better emotional relationship with a dumb animal than an actual person. It feels weird to me.

Same. All of the people in real life I know who say they prefer animals to humans are extremely controlling and difficult people. 😬

Yup - pretty much this. I'm really not interested much in other people although I can fake it very well when I have to.

BristolBlueGlasses · 30/09/2023 16:42

I have a DH, family and wide and happy circle of friends all of whom I adore. I promise you I am not a controlling person, I volunteer and have enjoyed working with people all my life.

When my little dog had to be put to sleep a month ago I was and remain totally heartbroken. She had been a gentle, fun, loving, adorable part of our life for over a decade and only ever brought us joy. She was bright, sparky and very much had her own little personality. Why would you not feel overwhelming love for such wonderful creatures? It's fair to say that I preferred her company to that of many people I've met. I am more upset at her passing than that of some of the family I have lost in the past. There is a special place in your heart for the animals in your life and a closeness between people and their pets that is hard to understand if you are not that way inclined.

Lambruschinetto · 30/09/2023 16:45

I don't think that's it for the majority. It's about the innocence and wonder, and sense of adventure and awe of animals and little kids. Lack of alternative motives.
