I usually buy expensive makes but fancy treating myself without the expensive tag.

AIBU to think there might be products which are cheaper on the market and reasonably good quality?

I’ve found Number 7 from Boots to be excellent and affordable.

KirstenBlest · 29/09/2023 06:03

When you buy the expensive brands you are paying for the packaging.
'Never mind the lipstick, feel the lifestyle'.
Boots No 7/17, Rimmel, Collection, Revolution are all fine without being £££

Malbecormerlot · 29/09/2023 06:05

Revolution is good. Primark also has some really good stuff dupes for Charlotte Tilbury etc

nutellacrepe · 29/09/2023 06:06

I always buy a decent mid-range brand for foundation and sometimes lipstick, e.g. MAC, as I find there is a difference.

Everything else, high street brands are fine. There is really not that much variance in things like mascara, blusher and eyeshadow, in my experience.

A lot of expensive make up and skin care is a massive marketing ploy.

Try E.LF :)

FuzzyPuffling · 29/09/2023 06:44

Barry M nail polish is lovely.

DIYandEatCake · 29/09/2023 06:44

I love Kiko cosmetics - they only have shops in big cities but do online as well.

TrainTrooper · 29/09/2023 06:45

Elf has dupes of most things.
Avon will be in superdrug soon and has a good price point. Their lip oil is amazing.
Collection foundation is a dupe of Charlotte tilbury, elf and revolution contour sticks also a dupe of Charlotte tilbury.
Maybelline 4 in 1 is an obsession of mine - like your skin, but better!
Studio London lip liners are great too.

cheeseandketchupsandwich · 29/09/2023 06:52

Another vote for No 7

Justleaveitblankthen · 29/09/2023 07:01

Collection is fab. Always use their Mascarra and foundation (fairly thick too, so use a drop Mixed with moisturiser. Lasts all year 😂) Cheap as chips.
Get mine from Tesco.

stayathomer · 29/09/2023 07:05

Rimmel perfect match is a great dupe for ysl, maybelline concealer is the best out there, w7 beats the urban decay naked palette, mascara wise I haven’t found anything I’ve continued with except Roche posay but that’s nearly impossible to get now! Primer wise I like Aimee connelly but at €25 I’d like to go down in price more, am thinking max factor next

Suckingalemon · 29/09/2023 07:09

Bourjois, nyx, and kiko

Idrankyourbananamilk · 29/09/2023 07:10

No 7. Reliably good quality across the range.

Cigarettesandbooze · 29/09/2023 07:11

Meh, you can spend as much or as little as you want. I don’t find a huge amount of difference. Sometimes I like the pleasure of a Chanel lipstick, other times I’m fine with a Revolution lipstick. They both look pretty much the same on. Neither have changed my life!

foolishone · 29/09/2023 07:36

Revolution is great, and cheap.

AlwaysFreezing · 29/09/2023 07:43

Thirding revolution.

RosesAndHellebores · 29/09/2023 07:49

I use No7 for foundation, concealer, powder, blusher. I prefer Estee or Lancome lipstick and Mascara.

Upbroom · 29/09/2023 07:51

I really like Revolution

Ifulikepinacoladas · 29/09/2023 07:55

Another vote for Revolution.
Maybelline for mascara.

ResponsibleProduction · 29/09/2023 08:01

For the medium price range I find a combination of Mac and Lush make-up works well. The Lush ones are cheaper and some items seem to last forever!

Defaultsettings · 29/09/2023 08:04

Revolution. They do a few different ranges varying in design quality. Some look like higher end style (hourglass, Charlotte Tilbury) and others are more basic.

ZenNudist · 29/09/2023 08:04

I'm a dior fan for foundation and lipstick, mac for concealer and benetint for blush. I have long swapped out maybelline for mascara so I can replace frequently and it's much better. Considering a high st blusher replacement now my peachy one from dior is running out.

Oooooooooooo1 · 29/09/2023 08:04

I bounce between No7, aldi & Elf all good imo

ChaToilLeam · 29/09/2023 08:06

Kiko, Revolution and Nyx are all good without being £££.

Bigcoatweather · 29/09/2023 08:09

I’ve been guilty of stealing my DD’s Revolution products and have now built up a stash of my own. Their primers and fixing sprays are second to none. I’m highly impressed.
