No. I mean I like Manchester but just the weather would swing it 😂

theduchessofspork · 23/09/2023 21:42

No. Unless there was a v v good reason.

coxesorangepippin · 23/09/2023 21:43

Er, no

Meowandthen · 23/09/2023 21:43

Context needed.

Manchester is a great city but it depends on exactly where, the accommodation, and general financial circumstances.

Neuilly · 23/09/2023 21:44

Haha - last year I got offered two jobs at the same time - one in Lisbon one in Manchester.

Ended up in Manchester and we love it.

LemonQuiche · 23/09/2023 21:44

Impossible to answer without further information.

Whats your job and lifestyle in Portugal? Where do you live in Portugal? What would you do in Manchester?

I live in the North West and strongly recommend you don’t move for the weather.

Lizzieregina · 23/09/2023 21:45

I grew up in Manchester and would never choose to live there again.

Divebar2021 · 23/09/2023 21:45

Well maybe….you’re comparing a country where people probably only experience on holiday with a U.K. city. If I lived in an unexciting part of portugal and had connections to Manchester I might move. If I was offered an excellent job in Manchester I might move. Portugal needs more than just Sun to make it a desirable place to live.

Savemeusername · 23/09/2023 21:47

@Lizzieregina Why not?

OP posts:
Zampa · 23/09/2023 21:48

You can't compare an entire country to one city!

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 23/09/2023 21:50

I've never been to Portugal, but I imagine it would be too hot for me in the summer. I wouldn't want to live in Portugal or Manchester tbh!

Lizzieregina · 23/09/2023 21:55

I’ve lived in multiple other places since I left Manchester (3 other countries plus London) and I liked all of them better.

I found Manchester gloomy and depressing and my brothers all still live thereabouts and I don’t feel like their lives are all that much improved over how we lived as kids.

Granted I left as a teenager and haven’t been back in recent years, so maybe it’s better now (although probably not the weather) but if I had to find a new place to live, it wouldn’t even make the consideration list despite having loads of family there.

LindorDoubleChoc · 23/09/2023 21:56

Stupid question. Stop wasting people's time.

Starseeking · 23/09/2023 21:58

That would depend on age, stage and aspirations for future life. Too many variables to be able to comment in any meaningful way.

Jesus 🙄

hartof · 23/09/2023 22:04

Well Ronaldo did it, left and came back again 😂

We love Portugal and we live in Manchester and we've discussed possibly living in Portugal which would obviously be lovely. But I'd miss city living and I do actually enjoy the cold grey skies

HappiestSleeping · 23/09/2023 22:05

Funnily enough, we've just come back from Portugal, having visited just outside Lisbon. I wouldn't necessarily want to live in Lisbon, but I think I'd rather live in Portugal than England. One day bus ticket that you can use all day - €2. Train into Lisbon €2.30 (45 minute distance). Everything clean - streets, shops, trains, parks, apart from graffiti. I know we were on holiday but the pace is slower there in general. I guess there's an element of rise tinted spectacles as everywhere becomes a little tedious after a while, but if nice there in a heart beat if I could.

Hopealong · 23/09/2023 22:14

I live in Portugal and have only visited Manchester.
Portugal is a really wonderful country to live in but generally it is easier for retirees than those having to earn a living. So it depends on the reasons for the potential move.

Savemeusername · 23/09/2023 22:20

@Hopealong Are you a retiree (if you don’t mind me asking!)

I mean... daddy or chips?!

Glorifried · 23/09/2023 23:34

Australia or Slough?!

What a weird thread...op, are you going to explain?

BitOutOfPractice · 23/09/2023 23:36

Where in Portugal? Where’s family and friends? What’s the financials like? Too many questions, not enough info.

I like this game.

Nantes vs Bulgaria?

Leipzig vs Bhutan?

Sao Paulo vs Tonga?

HoliHormonalTigerLillyTheSecond · 24/09/2023 08:22

Hilarious. No op. I wouldn't.

Beezknees · 24/09/2023 08:27

I'm in the minority but I'd rather live in Manchester than Portugal. I find learning languages difficult so it would be a daily struggle and I don't like heat. So I wouldn't want to live outside the UK.
